Pritti Patel now saying we can't walk with another person

Anyone see this morning today. In her interview she claimed that we should walk cycle and run alone

I understood the rules to allow a walk with one other person.

I walk my dog twice a week with a friend. Rest of the time I'm alone with dog on walks and it's the only thing that keeps me sane at the moment. Take that away and I dont think I can cope for much longer.

Make the rules clearer ffs!!!

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer

No one cares about this current lockdown. People meet with entire groups outside, organise parties inside, sleepovers and whathaveyou. There are countless threads on my local groups about kids birthday parties and sleepovers.

People don't wear masks because they can't be bothered - just claim you are exempt, people just live their normal life but call it "bubbles'

I feel so sorry for the few who genuinely cannot work, have to isolate and are penalised. no one else is bothered. Our local coffee shops are full!

I don't know anyone like this, or doing any of this, or anything like it. And in any case, it's irrelevant to a debate about going for a walk. Everyone should carry on taking walks outside with one other person, if and when they want to. And I agree with a PP, policing petty things like this is more likely to make people give up altogether. Most people do choose to operate within the rules, when the rules are reasonable.

Last Sunday I met a friend at a local country park, we drove separately- about 4 miles each way.
We walked through the park to adjoining woodland and hiked steep muddy paths for 7 miles. We chatted all the time and each took a flask of tea which we stopped and drank.
We barely saw another soul until we got back to the park.
We were both a bit stressed but after a walk and a chat, and a whinge, and a laugh we both felt much better. We shall be doing it again this weekend.
Priti Patel can shove it up her fundament. I was in far more danger this morning briefly entering a supermarket to buy bread.

not round us, and latest research shows there's a lot of compliance, just that flouters get given a lot of publicity
notalwaysalondoner · 14/01/2021 15:16

This is the exact same as in lcokdown one when I think Gove said you should only exercise once a day for 30 mins - it was never law but caused loads of confusion and holier than thou judgmental curtain twitching crap. In my opinion ministers should keep their views to themselves or else actually clarify the law. We're in this crazy new world where seemingly ministers and the police can interpret the law any way they choose and massively confuse the population - because the law is so vague. Normally you have lots of case law to build on in this situation, but it's all too quick for that to happen. It's crap and not how the legal system should work.

anniegun · 14/01/2021 15:17

Priti Patel gets confused easily so I wouldn't take what she says at face value.

notalwaysalondoner · 14/01/2021 15:17

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer I'm in the south west and people are very compliant, but my husband had to go to London recently for medical reasons and was shocked at the number of people in supermarkets without masks, the number of large groups socialising outside etc. So I think it is very regionally dependent.

Stovetopespresso · 14/01/2021 15:18

@Robbybobtail

Our local coffee shops are full!

Surely only for takeaways? Perfectly fine. Also, unless you are out and about lots yourself, how do you know all this is going on?

personally I think we should stop people going inside for takeaways like nicola did in scotland

my daughter is in London and she says its crap there for compliance as so many think they've had it (no excuse)

😀 hard to know which face to believe anyway
DioneTheDiabolist · 14/01/2021 15:20

You don't want to listen to a word that cuntbag says. She isn't exactly known for her knowledge and intellect.

loulouljh · 14/01/2021 15:24

yes I need to do it!!! My conscience is quite clear thank-you!

SexTrainGlue · 14/01/2021 15:26

What she is saying now may well be law by the start of next week.

The rise in cases might have plateau'ed down from the sickening numbers before last weekend, but they're painfully high compared to a couple of weeks before that (roughly the time that has landed current levels in hospital?)

How fast the rate of new infections reduces is going to be important too

saraclara · 14/01/2021 15:26

Yep. We don't notice the 99% of people wearing their masks. We notice the 1% who don't, etc.

Fizbosshoes · 14/01/2021 15:26

I meet my friend for a run probably twice a week and we chat for 5 - 10 miles.i run faster on my own. ..but I'm less likely to go on my own. We try to stay as far apart as possible and use quiet country lanes.

Robbybobtail · 14/01/2021 15:30

Stovetopespresso

Our local Costa etc have a 2 people in - 2 out system which works fine. People have to wear a mask and are in there no more than 5 minutes.
No need to close takeaways. I don’t believe that “coffee shops are full” it’s just not true.

Divebar · 14/01/2021 15:31

I listened to a researcher On the radio who had been studying the compliance to lockdown rules and he said the majority of people were largely compliant to the majority of rules. A smaller but still significant number were totally compliant. I have seen families out meeting other families for walks over the Christmas break but not since then. Coffee shops in our area are not full. The trains are empty. If they don’t want us to meet one other for exercise then make it law. Don’t do what they did at Christmas when they kept saying we advise you not to mix but kept it legal for millions of people to mix on the day. Make your mind up.

Labobo · 14/01/2021 15:35

A lone woman out jogging was knifed and barely survived near us recently. The days are short and dark. the nearest walks are all heavily secluded woods. Socially distanced outdoor exercise with one other person should always be permissible for the sake of safety. Men with knives are rare but twisting your ankle isn't. How incompetent is this government? Does any of them stop and think an idea through its most obvious conclusion before opening their mouth?

Stovetopespresso · 14/01/2021 15:36

just our luck to get a bloody pandemic with these selfish stupid clowns in charge

Stovetopespresso · 14/01/2021 15:38

@Labobo hoe awful. I think this rule would be awful for people who live alone and can't exercise with members of their own household

Stovetopespresso · 14/01/2021 15:38

sorry how not hoe oops

peak2021 · 14/01/2021 15:42

The Scots have a sensible idea about having to be served takeaways outside (or at the door), the Met Police Commissioner a sensible one that exercise should start and end at home (so no driving to beauty spots or the seaside).

Whereas Priti Patel cannot even stick to ministerial rules, regardless of who the Prime Minister is.

AlwaysLatte · 14/01/2021 15:42

Why does it say you can exercise with one other person on the gov website then? Are they changing their own rules and not updating them? I haven't been exercising without anyone else - just walks with my family - but it's bonkers if people are not allowed to follow the Government's own advice and it weakens the rules they do have.

Redrivershore · 14/01/2021 15:44

This is similar to when Gove said about the infamous hour of exercise

Stovetopespresso · 14/01/2021 15:46

@Robbybobtail yeah they didn't close takeaways in Scotland just collecting from outside. re costa ypu say it works "fine", I'm not a scientist but I hope you're right for that "essential" cup of coffee

mumwon · 14/01/2021 15:49

2 things occur to me - we have v few police in our town - so I would love to know how all this extra supervision by police is managed
Second when dh & I walk outside together -will this mythical police person ask for our marriage lines, tenancy info or look up where we live to check we live together? (MInd, he always wonders off to take photos on our country walks!)
@Sitt I had a good laugh at your post - but you should add looking at leaves sticks puddles (Ah got it -you live in an urban area! Grin)
