It's been done to death now. It was wrong, there's been apologies, it won't happen again. FFS please let it go now.

Are you actually being serious?

This is the stupidest thing I've seen on the internet all day.

ktp100 · 14/01/2021 00:15

Fuck that. Unless there is widespread reporting, discussion, anger and a massive SM backlash the absolute bastards will do it again.]

They know what they're doing a and I have zero sympathy.

SomeFucker · 14/01/2021 00:16

When people stop talking about a bad thing that happened, people forget, get complacent and it’s more likely to happen again.

Bimbleboo · 14/01/2021 00:18

Ah yes. Are you one of those who are a fan of not having to be inconvenienced by hearing about things that make you uncomfortable because you’d prefer to pretend they don’t exist?

If people shut up about it, they get away with it. And theyl do it again and again.

And people will keep voting for them because they don’t see the consequences of that choice.

Theyl keep being able to pretend to themselves that the tories want to ‘level up’ working class kids, rather than the truth, which is that they will vote to let them go hungry.

FinallyFluid · 14/01/2021 00:21

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

PickAChew · 14/01/2021 00:21

I'm so sick of people who don't have the wit or empathy to put themselves in the position of someone worse off than they are.

Arobase · 14/01/2021 00:23

Yes, let's brush this one quickly under the carpet, shall we. Never mind that that the poorest children suffered from it, never mind that a lucrative contract once again went to a financial supporter of the Conservative party without proper standards and safeguards being put in place. We should forget all about that quickly because @muminthesummer has decided, in the teeth of all the evidence of months of government corruption, that it won't happen again.

Arobase · 14/01/2021 00:26

OP, could you explain why precisely you have decided that this won't happen again if we shut up about it? It's a continuation of a long line of corrupt behaviour by the government and its supporters, and a continuation in a long history of shafting the most vulnerable children. What makes you think Johnson and his mates have at last decided to change their ways?

Port1aCastis · 14/01/2021 00:33

When it takes a 22 year old footballer to speak up for the Nation's hungry children the government should be ashamed very ashamed

Fatas · 14/01/2021 00:36

@WhereverIGoddamnLike but we already know Hancock gave his pub landlord mate down the road covid contracts so why news?

Fatas · 14/01/2021 00:37

I mean we l is it's corrupt, been going on ages and what do we do about it?, 🤷🏼‍♀️

thecountdownfinal · 14/01/2021 00:38

People (and many on here) agreed with the 2 child cap on benefits - which only hurts all the children who dare be born into a family with more than 2 kids.

The 5 week wait for any help (oh yes but you can take out a government LOAN for the 5 week wait which is deducted for 18 months at a high rate).

The government under Teresa May were forced by charities (much the same as the Marcus Rushford thing now) to abolish premium rate call charges charged to poor people to call the UC helpline.

Minimum wage does not anywhere near cover the cost of living in extortionate and often dilapidated private rents which many have no choice but to live in.

Disabled people are being let down severely.

The welfare state is being dismantled. Very few of the people who are lucky enough not to have to rely on it, seem to care - beyond a little virtue signalling..

Fatas · 14/01/2021 00:38

@Port1aCastis funny, I haven't seen him getting his hands out of his pockets for the disadvantaged kids, but he obviously cares so much

Lalliella · 14/01/2021 00:44

Hey OP, are you Matt Hancock? Why did you vote for kids to starve?

Kids living in poverty are probably “so sick” of being hungry, but let’s forget about that now eh? It’s been done to death. Probably literally in some cases.

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 14/01/2021 00:46

Someone on an earlier thread said that the government haven't learned anything.
I disagree. I think the Tories have learned very quickly that, with a majority of 80 and a divided, increasingly insular population, they can do whatever the hell they like and they'll always have someone to pop up and say "Yeah, but it's not Corbyn, innit? He'd have tried out his Commie manifesto with his nationalised railways and free broadband..."

Lexilooo · 14/01/2021 00:49

@Fatas you haven't been paying attention. Marcus Rashford has been putting his hand in his own pocket.

What have you done?

oakleaffy · 14/01/2021 00:58

All the feckless free school meals families!

Can't have their parents given actual money as it will all go on crack, heroin, booze, scratch cards, cigarettes and bingo.

So let them have a raw potato and a carrot, as they clearly

Cannot be trusted! , so we'll choose for them, and we'll pocket the rest.

Quids in.

Hi Boris, is that you?
Sparklfairy · 14/01/2021 01:21

What I love about these threads is, if someone does want to post about food parcels, does the OP reeeeeally think that person is gonna go 'oh no! @muminthesummer has banned us from talking about it! Best not then'

I mean really HmmGrin

UndertheCedartree · 14/01/2021 01:40

What annoys you so much about people speaking up for poor DC?

I think the discussion raised a lot of interesting points. For example why do some schools serve a proper portion of a decent hot meal with vegetables and salad, dessert, fruit and a drink and others serve tiny portions of unhealthy food? Is this another case of these companies taking advantage of school children for profit?

OHolyTights · 14/01/2021 01:49

What a selfish - or goady - OP.

OHolyTights · 14/01/2021 02:02

OP seems to have posted rather a lot about her DC's exams. That is obviously an acceptable subject to go on about and far more important and deserving of attention than other people's children going hungry.

UndertheCedartree · 14/01/2021 02:05

@Keeping2ChevronsApart - why would people be fuming about poor families getting a boost to their food bills? Confused
