It's been done to death now. It was wrong, there's been apologies, it won't happen again. FFS please let it go now.

VodselForDinner · 13/01/2021 22:55

Ah yes, don’t bore yourself with starving children, OP.

ekidmxcl · 13/01/2021 22:55

I think that it's clear that a government department needs to be set up to cover child poverty and the issues associated with it. Far too much is expected from schools - they should be educating children. You wouldn't go to a doctor to get children's clothes or a hospital to get petrol so why would should a school be expected to feed kids who aren't there? I appreciate there are kids who need feeding and I agree they should be fed. But schools shouldn't deal with this. They are struggling to educate as it is. We need an entirely separate department/system to help those who need it, rather than pushing more work onto schools.

Keep shouting it from the rooftops. This is not a jog on situation. It is another Tory crime against the non rich. Why would you let them off the hook so easily?

thebestnamehere · 13/01/2021 22:57

OK the OP has not thought abpout it but hey, don't roast her. At least it is still in our thoughts

End child starvation and do something about it

HowToSurvive2021 · 13/01/2021 22:58

Or we could plan financially before having children.

Whatwouldscullydo · 13/01/2021 23:00

I'm sure many people did ..then well redundancy/covid/illness / abusive partners etc

whippettiger · 13/01/2021 23:01

Or we could plan financially before having children.

How can anyone have this attitude, when we are all living through this totally unprecedented time?

Partners die, people lose jobs, people have to leave abusive relationships, circumstances change. Get your head out of your arse.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/01/2021 23:04

Chartwells weren't offered a Government contract. Our local schools are deciding which provider to go with to provide FSM hampers.

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 13/01/2021 23:04

Is the £30 food voucher per child or family? It doesn't cost £30 to feed a child 5 lunches. Many people have this budget for the whole family for all meals

How do you know it won't happen again?

It's been entirely predictable that this would happen as soon as the bullshit myths about people on benefits meant the government listened to the complaints about vouchers and stated that food parcels were the preference this time round.

It'll happen again because the same shit will be spouted about cigarettes and alcohol and people will listen, then the likes of Marcus Rashford will have to advocate for children again.

CoronaIsWatching · 13/01/2021 23:07

Bring back Captain Tom Moore!

ineedaholidaynow · 13/01/2021 23:07

It's not £30, it is £15 voucher per child per week.

Interestingly FSM at school usually budget for about 80p per day for the food element, the balance covers wages, overheads etc

MercyBooth · 13/01/2021 23:08

Well as long as the people who think this is okay arent coming out with shit like "we are all in this together" on face mask threads.

lyralalala · 13/01/2021 23:09

@HowToSurvive2021

And just abandon children whose parents are in unexpected situations?

We're in the middle of a fucking pandemic ffs. How are people meant to have planned for that exactly?

Butterymuffin · 13/01/2021 23:09

Read something else if you're bored of it! It's not compulsory to pay attention. Why the need to stop it being discussed?

PenguinIce · 13/01/2021 23:11

So it’s better to keep giving a private company the £30 so they can spend £5 of it on a child and pocket the rest? Yes much better to do that than run the risk of that child getting a extra meal!

No wonder people are fuming then. If you have 3 kids and get a £45 voucher that's a great boost if you're struggling with food bills.
Iggly · 13/01/2021 23:12

I don’t think it’s been done to death enough.

It’s a shameful shameful state of affairs.

Hello captain hindsight!
HeddaGarbled · 13/01/2021 23:13

Of course it will happen again, or something very similar. Which is why we need to make a big fuss, every single time, and for more than the duration of your boredom threshold, which is too short.

JamieLeesCurtains · 13/01/2021 23:14

Government corruption is never 'done to death', is it?

Notcontent · 13/01/2021 23:14

There was an error of judgment but the whole thing has been slightly misunderstood and misrepresented.

Schools or local councils appoint a private catering company. If you pay £3 for a school lunch (or that money is provided as FSM) then that’s NOT for the ingredients - but all the costs involved. So it might work out to be £1.50:for the actual food. And you can’t really replicate all the ingredients ina food parcel - 100g of mince, quarter of an onion, etc. They kind of tried to do that - e.g. potato and beans - but it looked bad.

It should always have been vouchers BUT £15 for five lunches is actually pretty generous!

Kdee52 · 13/01/2021 23:18

Out of sight out of mind eh? We'll keep talking about it until kids are no longer starving.... please do bear with us.

They appoint private companies because schools are not given enough funding to provide decent cooked meals on site....

And why do families need these parcels in the first place? Because theyre paid shit wages as all of the country’s wealth is sucked up by a small amount of billionaires and millionaires.

It’s a mess.
