It's been done to death now. It was wrong, there's been apologies, it won't happen again. FFS please let it go now.

It’a clearly not sorted. The government have had multiple scandals over this, because they have failed to deal with it multiple times. There is zero evidence that ignoring it will make it better.

Catty1720 · 13/01/2021 23:20

I don’t think it’s that simple. In a country such as this we have children going hungry? No apology will fix that and the more it’s talked about the more that people in power will have to do. It’s 2021 and people are dependent on free school meals and food banks!

DoctorHildegardLanstrom · 13/01/2021 23:21

How about talking about PIP, that is not something I have seen, which is a shitstorm waiting to happen.

Basically due to the pandemic, there is a 3 month backlog of assessments, lets say Sarah was on PIP, had to reapply for it, her PIP ends at the end of January. Because of the backlog, that means she is not going to get that money coming in and that assumes she is going to get it straight away without having to go to tribunal. They can't or won't extend the PIP till the assessment

Flowersinthefireplace · 13/01/2021 23:22

If you relied on food parcels to fill your children’s stomachs you might have more time for the discussion eh?

Ugzbugz · 13/01/2021 23:23

When Covid is over, and forgotten, no one will give a shit about MOD without lunches as they didnt before.

I to sick of it, I have a friend who openly admits her benefits are high and doesn't need these free school lunches yet have another who doesnt even cut paying tax and doesnt recieve free lunches.

I at a time was a single parent on a very low wage, forced to move home, not entitled to free school lunches so went full time and took an additional job. Someone else has many pets including horses and dogs but cant possibly feed their kids.

The entire system is utterly unfair and ridiculous and still many children will stil be left hungry because their parents wont feed them.

The kids not MOD
ScreamingBeans · 13/01/2021 23:28

When I were a nipper no one needed food parcels because we had the welfare state.

Progress eh.

Ah the classic anecdata.

I’d rather not starve a child through judgement of the parent. Especially as someone may have a different take on a parent’s behaviour or actions.

Let’s not judge. Just feed the kids.

frazzledasarock · 13/01/2021 23:31

Chartwell was awarded the contract to distribute the food parcels.
Weren’t they the company that was found to be feeding school kids horse meat instead of beef?

And wasn’t it’s parent company Compass fined $18m for overcharging for school meals in New York?

Randomschoolworker19 · 13/01/2021 23:33

MPs get thousands of pounds in expenses and discounted food yet vote against bills that propose we treat our FSM children better, and then their mates don't just skim off the top but philther pretty much the entire amount and profiteer off our poorest children.

Honestly, it's the same story with any institution the Tories are in charge of. Royal Mail .... sell it off cheap to mates.... Track and Trace... private firms get millions in government contracts .... now FSM......

How many times are people going to read about these stories and then continue to vote for Tory all the while complaining?

Complaining is not good enough. You need to vote with your wallet, or in the case of government and elections, your ballot.

BiBabbles · 13/01/2021 23:34

It'll happen again without a strong enough disincentive not to. More threads, probably not enough of one.

As has been pointed out in many of the conversations on this topic, the government guidance on what should be in the parcels shows yes, it will happen again, because they're terrible guidelines

The 'worst' parcels were only missing the milk and a portion of meat (or their substitutes) by those guidelines. By those guidelines, those are the only mistakes being made - they knew it was going to be terrible and that businesses could easily make a profit on it.

Not sure how they didn't figure out that the news of this would spread like this, but people are eating up their apology and blaming those who are getting food parcels instead. Seriously - by the time children are in school, it's a wee bit late to start going on at people about financial planning before having children (and, you know, people can be well off and then become not so well off for many reasons). It can come across as saying you think children deserve to starve or die because you disapprove of their parents.

midsomermurderess · 13/01/2021 23:36

Having chucked a stone in the pool, the OP is not coming back.

Iggly · 13/01/2021 23:38

I think people do think that. Or they’re stupid and don’t follow through the logic in their thinking.

funnelfanjo · 13/01/2021 23:39

If you have 3 kids and get a £45 voucher that's a great boost if you're struggling with food bills.
That’s kind of the point of them - to give struggling families a boost!

funnelfanjo · 13/01/2021 23:43

@HowToSurvive2021

Or we could plan financially before having children.
..and see those plans go to shit because a parent got sick, or injured, or the parents spilt up, or lost a job due to unforeseen circumstances. Like, I dunno, a global pandemic that trashed the economy.
blueangel19 · 13/01/2021 23:43

And why do families need these parcels in the first place? Because theyre paid shit wages as all of the country’s wealth is sucked up by a small amount of billionaires and millionaires.

This

Just wait for the new era of the digital oligarchs. Be very afraid!

Fallsballs · 13/01/2021 23:51

Yep the OP just did a dump and left it - don’t feed him/her.

Ugzbugz · 13/01/2021 23:55

@Iggly but there are 1000s of kids that need to be fed that are slipping through??

If you can afford horses and dogs and cats, you do not need help.

When you cant afford heating you need it.

I've been there, luckily my own family feed me but had I not had them would anyone be care? NO.

It's not about judging its about the same rule for all low earners and those kids in poverty. Not feeding fucking horses etc.

MotherHeyho · 13/01/2021 23:56

That you, Boris? Sure, yes, let's draw a line under it and move on, nothing to see here... Hmm

FinallyFluid · 13/01/2021 23:57

Was that you Boris..............??

JamieLeesCurtains · 13/01/2021 23:58

OP's pissed off to a spa on his estate.

Port1aCastis · 13/01/2021 23:58

Fed up of people who whine about hungry kids
Done to death yeah well so has the arseholery about it
There but for the grace of God and all that....you never know what's round the corner anything could happen

Ugzbugz · 14/01/2021 00:11

@Port1aCastis exactly, kids have always been starving and now everyone cares, but no one will in a year or so or did before.

There needs to be a massive shake up, it's not just about those who cant or dont work, its also about those in well needed very poorly paid jobs who are massively underpaid, no one seems to care about these kids.

mimi0708 · 14/01/2021 00:12

Well people should make a noise if they are not happy with the government. A simple apology won't cut it. The government needs to know that they can't just fuck up over and over again and people will just let it go.
