Any over 80s still not heard about vaccine?

Whirlwind14 · 13/01/2021 21:48

My dad is 81 and his surgery have said that they’re still waiting on an approved venue to use with the other surgeries in their PCN.
They haven’t even had a delivery of either of the vaccines yet?

I know of other people in the area that have had their second dose.

Any one else still waiting to hear?

@SophieB100 so glad they have had a genuine call . These people are the absolute scum of the earth I hope they get caught and appropriately punished

SophieB100 · 15/01/2021 18:21

Thank you @Peaseblossom22

My inlaws have had a letter ( FIL 85 & heart condition , MIL in her 70s )
To say that they will get a vaccine and the Welsh NHS is working very , very hard
But no appointment or any idea when the appointment will be

ImnotCarolineHirons · 15/01/2021 19:28

Said on news tonight around 40% of over 80s have been done, so still a lot to go!

Dutchesss · 15/01/2021 21:27

My 90 year old family member got their letter yesterday.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 15/01/2021 21:33

Nothing and my mum is 86

PrincessNutNuts · 16/01/2021 04:57

None of our four over 80s have heard anything yet. Or know anyone who has had theirs. They're all champing at the bit.

@SophieB100

The guy who called asked mum lots of questions about her health, and then wanted her to call another number...that's when she got suspicious. She reported it to the number in our local press, and got an email back to say that if it happens again, she must report, and hang up. Makes me so angry...anyway, luckily it was fine in the end.

Those who haven’t heard it is worth checking on websites /fb pages of your gp surgery as some are posting their plans/dates on there

Greyhair59 · 16/01/2021 09:33

My df is 91 and has been offered vaccination at several locations. Nearest one is over 20 miles away and he doesnt drive and we are a long way off. He is hoping the local Boots will be able to do it.

PuzzledObserver · 16/01/2021 10:00

@CoronaIsWatching

Can anyone explain how the gov't intends to vaccinate all over 80s by mid Feb when there's a 12 week gap between first and second vaccine? That would take us til April until they're all fully vaccinated??
The mid-Feb target is for 1st jab only.
Mindymomo · 16/01/2021 10:25

Some areas have completed their over 80’s and are now onto the next stage. A friend of mine is taking his DM to a Superdrug store in their town today.

@Greyhair59 all of our parents were offered transport if they needed it . When you book the system asks if you need transport, I realise that is a further risk but otherwise he may have to wait sometime to get one in walking distance
Greyhair59 · 17/01/2021 22:55

Thanks Peaseblossom, I will ask him about that but he is not keen to go in a taxi or any transport with others.

They will be in local chemists and surgeries in a few weeks as things expand.

The big centres are a stupid idea on lots of levels and I refuse to take any of our over 80s into one.

Having avoided people for almost a year it shouldn't be necessary to travel and congregate in a huge room with lots of people in order to be vaccinated.

Worst offenders are the 15 minute waiting rooms I think. They're always full.

Thisischocolate · 19/01/2021 10:06

My 83 yo aunt still hasn’t had a letter. She has had a text from her GP about a week ago saying she would near soon.

LIZS · 19/01/2021 10:07

Apparently the delay in delivering it to the housebound is due to there being no protocol for transporting open vials between locations. Until that changes it would not be possible to vaccinate one or two household members at a time without wastage.

My father's surgery still not vaccinating over 80's - dreadful when you hear that some parts of the country have moved to over 70's now. Partner's father in a different area has had 2 vaccinations and has my ex's mum in a different area. The website states don't contact us we will contact you. They haven't even started yet!

It's the same for my Great Uncle. They're waiting for the vaccine. Can't do much without it.

Does the GP website tell you what vaccination group they are joining, if not ring and ask them , it’s unlikely that they are going to be doing their own patients only. I joined the FB group for my MILs vaccine group and it was reassuring that I could at least keep an eye on what cohort they were doing . There was also misinformation on her GPs website that I asked about on the group page ( her GPs is generally rubbish) . She now has an appt this week thankfully .
MRex · 19/01/2021 13:45

Those who haven't heard for over 80s, are you sure there aren't post delays, because in some areas they've been going on for weeks now? Much easier for those with mobile phones who are getting a text, but if you put your relative's details into the booking system, it might show options. They might be delayed, just best to check.

Madcats · 19/01/2021 14:04

My DM(90)'s surgery have finally put an announcement up on their website to say they will be in touch about a vaccine in the next couple of weeks.

My Twitter feed seems to have numerous celebs/journos celebrating about getting vaccines for themselves or relatives in their mid-seventies.

You'd think the various CCG would be monitoring roll-out and help slower towns/villages.

WTF0ver · 23/01/2021 18:28

Update - my DGM's getting the first vaccine dose next week.

DelurkingAJ · 23/01/2021 18:36

My DM (mid 70s and no underlying issues has had hers). Utter madness. She was told Sunday night for Monday morning and the centre said it was because they don’t know exactly how much they’ll get until the last minute.

middleager · 23/01/2021 20:05

My mother (no underlying health issues) 74, gets hers Monday.
Aunt and MIL, 75 and 76, got theirs today.
