Any over 80s still not heard about vaccine?

Whirlwind14 · 13/01/2021 21:48

My dad is 81 and his surgery have said that they’re still waiting on an approved venue to use with the other surgeries in their PCN.
They haven’t even had a delivery of either of the vaccines yet?

I know of other people in the area that have had their second dose.

Any one else still waiting to hear?

My elderly parents - both late 80s - haven't heard, but we are in the East of England and currently sit bottom of the league table for vaccinating. Hopefully they'll hear next week.
Mum got a spam call yesterday from a 'vaccine centre' - there was a lot about a spate of them in our area in our local press - so the caller soon got put in his place. Makes my blood boil that older people are being subjected to this, when they're already worried enough.

Frangipaniflower · 15/01/2021 14:24

My parents hadn't heard so I persuaded them to ring around all the surgeries and they are going to a nearby town today to be vaccinated. Their own surgery hadn't contacted them.

MRex · 15/01/2021 14:37

Maybe @GetoffYourHighHorse, incompetence can often be found and shouldn't be ruled out. Some areas have a larger proportion of older people and care homes, and have focused on those harder groups while others started all distribution types at once; what look like initial lags may then be quickly made up later when they get to "easier" more mobile elderly. The initial distribution also looks to have been fairer per region than it was fair based on elderly population distribution, which will presumably be addressed with coming batches of vaccine.

My great aunt is 84 and due next week. She's in Bristol.

Mumguilt19 · 15/01/2021 14:42

My gran is 89 and is CV but heard nothing yet. (Greater Glasgow and Clyde board)

Porcupineintherough · 15/01/2021 15:05

My parents got a call last night and will be vaccinated tomorrow. It's all happened very quickly, on Monday their surgery hadnt heard anything.

Porcupineintherough · 15/01/2021 15:05

@SophieB100 that's awful Shock

Nhsisfucked · 15/01/2021 15:08

That’s I’m glad someone understands @MRex
It’s a huge logistical nightmare. Some PCN’s are so short staffed etc and finding a venue is a nightmare. But staffing is huge with so many people off. Wish people could just be patient and realise everyone is doing their best in a difficult situation.

SophieB100 · 15/01/2021 15:24

@Porcupineintherough, I know, I was bloody fuming.
This is an article about it if you're interested. Luckily they were both aware of it, so spotted the signs.

Yes my 97 year old Nan

WTF0ver · 15/01/2021 15:30

My grandmother is 96 and hasn't heard a thing yet.

'Some areas have a larger proportion of older people and care homes, and have focused on those harder groups while others started all distribution types at once; what look like initial lags may then be quickly made up later when they get to "easier" more mobile elderly'

Thanks for that @MRex. Its interesting to hear about the organisation involved tbh. Just to be told 'don't contact us we'll contact you' seems inadequate when there are so many anxious people about. A brief reassuring comment on websites etc wouldn't hurt.

speakout · 15/01/2021 15:42

My 87 yo mother has just been offered it on Tuesday.

She doesn't want it though.

My MIL didn't receive a letter, but is 86 and ECV with lung issues, so definitely priority. She got fed up of waiting, when all her friends had been done, so SIL went on line and booked her an appointment for this Saturday. We assume therefore she had just been missed/lost letter.

Worsethingshappenatsea · 15/01/2021 16:40

It varies so much in different regions doesn't it ~ I'm in West Midlands my in-laws are early 80's and have had both jabs three weeks apart second one was Sunday just gone.
My own parents are 74 and 75 and have also both had first jab this week . All were contacted by their GP's and travelled less than 5 miles to local medical centres for the jabs said was very well organised and felt safe .
Reading some of these stories they have been extremely fortunate to get theirs so quickly.

nitgel · 15/01/2021 16:42

no for my 91 year old dad from our local surgery, even though other surgeries have been booked in. Some sort of cock up with signing paperwork apparently.

I've booked him into the superhub via the letter and pray it won't snow too badly (southeast).

MRex · 15/01/2021 16:44

It's great that so many are keen to be vaccinated so that we can see the way out of this pandemic. 3,234,946 first dose vaccines so far; 316,694 yesterday plus an extra 5300 second doses. Tomorrow the number vaccinated will exceed the official number of cases identified.

Peaseblossom22 · 15/01/2021 16:50

My father and stepmother are over 80 and had the vaccine last week . My dm, mil and fil all between 76 and 79 are all had texts yesterday and are all having the vaccine tomorrow .

Peaseblossom22 · 15/01/2021 16:52

We are in East Anglia

Peaseblossom22 · 15/01/2021 16:55

@SophieB100 is she sure it was a spam call. We are in Suffolk and all three of our parents were contacted yesterday by text but some of my Dm friends had a telephone call. One was called at 8.30am lives just around the corner from the vaccine centre and had the vaccine at 10.00am! They are moving pretty quickly .

daisypond · 15/01/2021 17:14

@BigWoollyJumpers

That link is only valid if you’ve been sent a letter, though. If you think your letter got lost, that’s one thing, but it’s no good for those who haven’t been contacted at all because they aren’t yet in the system.

Janus · 15/01/2021 17:30

My parents, 80 and 79 haven’t heard a thing from their GP in Devon. I’ve rung them too and they haven’t started yet 🙄🙄

Peaseblossom22 · 15/01/2021 17:46

I know in our county about 30 GP surgeries have clubbed together to form a federation. There are 5 centres I think and so far I have been so impressed

SophieB100 · 15/01/2021 17:54

Yes, it was definitely a scam - the good news is that this afternoon they've both had their call from their surgery - and have their vacs Saturday week! Relief all round.

SophieB100 · 15/01/2021 17:56

The guy who called asked mum lots of questions about her health, and then wanted her to call another number...that's when she got suspicious. She reported it to the number in our local press, and got an email back to say that if it happens again, she must report, and hang up. Makes me so angry...anyway, luckily it was fine in the end.
