Any over 80s still not heard about vaccine?

Whirlwind14 · 13/01/2021 21:48

My dad is 81 and his surgery have said that they’re still waiting on an approved venue to use with the other surgeries in their PCN.
They haven’t even had a delivery of either of the vaccines yet?

I know of other people in the area that have had their second dose.

Any one else still waiting to hear?

It's so varied.

My FIL, 83, had his first in the week the vaccinations rolled out in Dec. He was due his second, but has had to reschedule as he ended up in hospital for something else, and we were so glad he'd at least had the first dose.

Three relatives, all in mid 70s, no underlying conditions, have all been called for theirs next week. My dad, 76, has also had his.

Birmingham area.

Ellmau · 13/01/2021 23:44

My parents - and they're very keen to have them.

Floralnomad · 13/01/2021 23:47

My MIL is 89 and she’s heard nothing , I was speaking to a friend today and some of her relatives have had both doses ( before the policy change ) .Like everything to do with the NHS it’s a postcode lottery .

Working on this for our area. Most of the remaining GP sites will open by this weekend and be vaccinating large volumes from next week (not just our area but most areas). There are issues with vaccine supply but this is being resolved. In the next few days most over 80s will have been given an appointment - but care home residents are the current number one priority because of another diktat from NHSE.

Good. It's a disgrace that so many people in care homes haven't been vaccinated yet other people living independently in their 70s have.

DreamingofaShiteChristmas · 14/01/2021 00:02

Bit of a postcode lottery I think. My parents are 82 and have heard nothing. Our area has only just started this Monday. There were delays because the GP haven’t got their act together to find a suitable hub. Only care home residents and staff at the moment, at the hospital, which is doing the Pfizer.

Assuming the GP will start with the Oxford vaccine soon. But we are way behind neighbouring areas.

LosersClub · 14/01/2021 00:06

My grandmother is 80 and she's heard nothing yet. We are in the north west and our local surgery has already said it won't be distributing the vaccine on site, so it will be elsewhere she'll get the vaccine. Her mobility isn't the best so having to travel further a field is gonna be a bit of a problem tbh. I do wonder though how the vaccine will reach those who are completely house bound.

Scarby9 · 14/01/2021 02:12

My uncle and aunt in Suffolk (88 &90). None of their friends have been called either yet.
It is very area specific.

DFWM · 14/01/2021 02:30

87 year old nan hasn't heard anything yet, nor her nearly 90 year old brother. They are both in the North West.

MrsBennetsnerves · 14/01/2021 03:48

MIL in Sussex has heard nothing yet. I checked her GP's web page and by the looks of it they haven't had supplies yet. Yet my father in a similar age range in Kent had his first jab before Christmas, so it is a postcode lottery.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 14/01/2021 05:01

My nan 87 not heard yet , but someone she knows 81 has already had both jabs and lives 5 mins from her-surrey way , also elderly aunt 82 had both jabs she is up north, I am sw and they seem to be rolling out here but my town has a centre so doing well I think.

EffOrf · 14/01/2021 05:15

Gloria Hunniford said on Loose Women yesterday she was still waiting to hear, she said she was in Sevenoaks and Janet Street-Porter expressed her worry about the post service at the moment in this as some still get letters.

Unprecedentedusername · 14/01/2021 05:38

My neighbours 70 & 71, received text to attend their health centre immediately at tea time. Jumped in car and were home within 2 hours with 1st dose of Pfizer. No health issues. Perplexing.

ChristmasinJune · 14/01/2021 06:03

It really is a postcode lottery, in my area (Northwest) two 80 year olds and a 90 year old have had first and second jabs and my 76 year old dad had his first a week ago.

So sad that in some areas the 80+ group haven't had vaccinations.

JanuaryEl5ieBill · 14/01/2021 06:08

It's such a disgrace how much of a postcode lottery this is.

One side of town - 94 year old grandmother in an old people's apartment block (not quite a residential home but all very old and she has carers), finally received a letter yesterday inviting her to go online or call 119 to book an appointment in the city centre 9 miles away. We can get her there but surely it's not the safest! We're both in work so driving even with masks on is a risk and she can barely go half an hour without the toilet.

Other side of town, 78 year old healthy grandfather had his at a local clinic last week.

People will die because of this postcode lottery.

ChasingRainbows19 · 14/01/2021 06:10

One friends mum aged 81 has had both jabs, my parents in law in a different area have had none. Some areas are struggling to receive vaccine and when they do it’s in dribs and drabs at short notice.

Madcats · 14/01/2021 06:18

My town of 90k opened a vaccination centre on Monday. There were elderly getting in and out of cars when I walked past, but I am guessing they are unlikely to be achieving more than 30 vaccines/hour. It didn't have that sense of "busy".

Over in East Sussex DM(90) and my in-laws (81/85) have heard nothing from 2 different surgeries.

I suspect that there is a bottleneck with getting the vials approved (at that site in Wrexham). It is odd that the journalists don't seem to be pressing for answers.

Allusernamestakenbutthis · 14/01/2021 07:01

Omg that’s worrying. my parents are in late 70s and just yesterday had their vaccine. They also have health conditions like COPD and anemia, etc, etc... but are not on the shield list. Don’t know if that sped things up? They had one day notice so hopefully your dad will be called soon.

Timeturnerplease · 14/01/2021 07:14

DP’s great aunt and uncle are 93 and 105 respectively, though living independently and with no underlying conditions. Not heard at thing.

Mind you, no one else in our village has either, other than GP surgery has been on Facebook saying they are desperately trying to get hold of vaccines...

Bilgepumper · 14/01/2021 07:27

Where we live, there is now an online booking facility for over 80s. I had a look, there are five sites to choose from and loads of available appointments.

daisypond · 14/01/2021 07:48

My parents, late 80s, have heard nothing. Nor have their friends of similar ages. North Yorkshire.

Ch3rish · 14/01/2021 08:19

Based the daily numbers of total vaccinnes you dont need anecdata it's perfectly clear that millions of over 80s haven't had theirs yet

It's frustrating for individuals but afaik a whole population vaccination programme in a pandemic has never been done before so there are bound to be teething problems. We'll get there in the end.

Frazzled2207 · 14/01/2021 08:38

I suppose overall it is ramping up massively which is good but such a shame that it’s such a postcode lottery. MIL has hers today she is 76. She only had the call last night. Parents are 74 in Wales so they reckon they’ll be waiting a while.

DragonflyInn · 14/01/2021 08:52

To me a post code lottery is more about getting v not getting treatment. I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to label a few weeks difference as a lottery. I get how keen people are to have the vaccination and it must be frustrating if your area is behind others but this is a massive logistical exercise. To have it running at exactly the same time in every area of the country would presumably have slowed it down further.

Mammaaof · 14/01/2021 08:56

@PuzzledObserver my auntie who is NHS frontline is still waiting for hers South Wales also
