Any over 80s still not heard about vaccine?

My dad is 81 and his surgery have said that they’re still waiting on an approved venue to use with the other surgeries in their PCN.
They haven’t even had a delivery of either of the vaccines yet?

I know of other people in the area that have had their second dose.

Any one else still waiting to hear?

Nothing yet for 85 year old mum.Fife

bluelemming · 14/01/2021 09:10

We have three parents in their early 80s, all of whom have had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Cornwall.

Redrivershore · 14/01/2021 10:04

Maybe the over 70s are being done in some places to use up vaccine, they would be quite soon anyway

@DragonflyInn

To me a post code lottery is more about getting v not getting treatment. I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to label a few weeks difference as a lottery. I get how keen people are to have the vaccination and it must be frustrating if your area is behind others but this is a massive logistical exercise. To have it running at exactly the same time in every area of the country would presumably have slowed it down further.
In the two cases I’ve mentioned we are talking 2 neighbouring towns to my mind the hubs should have been arranged on a county basis . It seems ridiculous to me that person A in one town has had both doses and person B in the next town along is older and has had no doses or even had a letter or a phone call to book an appt .

My Father in law 86 still hasn’t got a vac date, we have contacted the surgery and have been told to wait or travel at least 60 miles to get one

hettyhooverdoover · 14/01/2021 11:06

My grandparents haven't either. I rang them this morning but they didn't want to stay on the phone again in case someone rang them

puffinkoala · 14/01/2021 11:15

My mum hasn't (Devon) and my MIL hasn't (SE London, although someone in her road has had it)

MRex · 14/01/2021 11:31

Do posters think everyone should wait until each town has completed their set-up and enough vaccine stored to start all vaccinations strictly in age order? That's the implication of saying it's a "postcode lottery". If you accept sites take different amounts of time to set up (training etc) then that means accepting there are groups 1-4 being done by mid February so still a month to go for everyone in those groups to be seen. Enthusiasm for getting the vaccine is great, pessimism and annoyance just because of waiting a few weeks longer than another person is really not healthy.

First regional Vaccination figures published by NHS by 10 Jan

MIL in her 90s not heard yet. NHS Grampian. Way behind up here.

Porcupineintherough · 14/01/2021 11:49

My dad's surgery have still heard nothing. But then my inlaws surgery had heard nothing last week, vaccine arrived on Monday and they were vaccinated yesterday (MiL is 87 and CEV). So it can happen extremely quickly.

elotrolado · 14/01/2021 12:40

Parents 84 and 82. Nothing yet, they are in East Cornwall.

cathyandclare · 14/01/2021 12:45

No one my parents know in their area in south Wales has heard anything. All able to get to a centre if needed. Wales is lagging so far, although the figures looked better yesterday,

suitcaseofdreams · 14/01/2021 13:00

My mum (80) had a letter Monday saying she could go online and book. First available appt is 2nd Feb - not very impressed :-(

Scottishgirl85 · 14/01/2021 13:18

It differs by area. My area are starting to contact over 80s today, in alphabetical order. Check your local GP social media.

LIZS · 15/01/2021 13:12

Update: pils and dm now have appointments next week. However it took dm 7 hours on the phone to arrange (6 yesterday, until her phone ran out of charge just as she reached no.1 in queue waiting from 97th and 1 this morning starting 48th in queue).

CoronaIsWatching · 15/01/2021 13:17

Can anyone explain how the gov't intends to vaccinate all over 80s by mid Feb when there's a 12 week gap between first and second vaccine? That would take us til April until they're all fully vaccinated??

JanewaysBun · 15/01/2021 13:19

My 86yo relative

LIZS · 15/01/2021 13:21

It is only first dose by mid Feb, dm second appointment is 1st April.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 15/01/2021 13:28

I would love to know how this is being organised.

Is it down to practice staff not getting orders in quickly, is it pot luck? Who is actually behind distribution plans because yes of course the storage of the pzizer vaccine caused logistic issues but now the Oxford one is available why aren't we seeing all over 80s getting appointments this week or next?

Bouledeneige · 15/01/2021 13:30

My Dad 91 only heard on Wednesday.

LIZS · 15/01/2021 13:36

I think each CCG is responsible for notifying eligible patients and have specific centres available. Dm had a choice of at least 3, in the city or a localish health centre. Df has yet to hear (different Surgery but only a few miles away).

MRex · 15/01/2021 13:40

@GetOffYourHighHorse - vaccines need to be created, tested, put in vials, distributed, appointments made and then put into arms. The whole process is new, even though it's speeding up people need a little patience.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 15/01/2021 13:49

'vaccines need to be created, tested, put in vials, distributed, appointments made and then put into arms. The whole process is new, even though it's speeding up people need a little patience.'

Of course, I'd be happy if my parents actually had an appointment in 2 weeks time but nope. Some areas are onto their second doses and some have hardly started. Why? I can't help thinking it's a local issue and someone isn't on the ball.

Northernlass99 · 15/01/2021 14:13

The Primary Care Network where my parents live haven't even vaccinated a single person yet. They have been really dreadful at getting organised. Then were supposed to start yesterday but the vaccine didn't arrive. So no-one has been done yet, whilst other areas have done nearly 50% of their over 80s. So frustrating.
