Would you report a hairdresser for still working at the moment?

I’m not usually one for reporting people, but where we are has some of the highest Covid rates in the whole of the U.K. Our local hospital is on its knees and staff have even been on the local news begging people to abide by the rules, yet today I log into social media to see that some silly cow has had her hair done and actually tagged the hairdresser that did it! I mean how fucking stupid and entitled can you possibly be?! It’s actually made me quite angry as today I learned that someone who lived near me has died of Covid at just 40 leaving a wife and kids.

I mean what is the fucking point in any of us following the rules when you have twats like this doing what the hell they like? I really do feel the need to report them but wouldn’t know where to start?

Her 'putting food on the table' could be another person's family member's death. It's not allowed, definitely report her.

TheTeenageYears · 11/01/2021 16:36

If she's mobile that's possibly worse as it's unlikely to be a one off and the hairdresser could be going into multiple households and with such close contact that's worse than most other situations like still having a cleaner in the house or someone in doing repairs/maintenance where most people would socially distance. I think I would report in your shoes.

goodwinter · 11/01/2021 16:39

I wouldn't report someone for earning a living. Maybe that's terrible of me, but I just couldn't.

PenguinIce · 11/01/2021 16:39

What is the point? She will be one of many breaking the rules. This is not a lockdown, most people are doing whatever they want. I have just seen my dc school bus go up and it is almost full so obviously my dc is one of the few no longer going. Even yr11 dc that I know are not vulnerable 🤷‍♀️).

A week ago I was thinking everyone would stick to the rules, cases would come down and we could get back to relative normality, at least how we were in last September. Now I have accepted its ‘lockdown’ until the vaccine is rolled out as relying on people to follow the rules is pointless.

StatisticalSense · 11/01/2021 16:39

@RiverSkater
Probably because they work cash in hand and therefore have no official income.

sofiaaaaaa · 11/01/2021 16:39

I have noticed a lot of Instagram influencers attend hair appointments during lockdown. They get the full works - highlights and extensions which would have taken what, 7 hours minimum? They seemingly never wear masks. I have seen stories where influencers are begging for salons to collab with them during lockdown too.

I think their hairdressers are scummy for carrying on as normal, but I’m just saying that as I’m assuming these hairdressers are financially okay (judging by their flashy Louis Vuitton, Range Rover etc posts!)

I think I’d turn a blind eye to a smaller hairdresser who can’t pay their bills. It’s not like they want to touch someone’s scalp for the fun of it. Hairdressers lack financial security, even if they’re employed by the salon directly

Londontown12 · 11/01/2021 16:41

I’m a hairdresser and in my eyes it’s unbelievable irresponsible! To her own family and to clients !! And regardless of her situation money wise she shouldn’t do it !
I have had to be shut down since March and have received no Help whatever from anywhere because I’m newly self employed I’ve had to get by and thank my lucky stars my hubbi can support me ! Anyone doing hair pisses me off report to your local council x

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 11/01/2021 16:42

I know she's someone meticulous about hygiene at work and at home and see it as her and her client's decision as to whether they take the risk for themselves and their families

But it isn't just themselves and their families that they are taking the risk for. The spread of this virus is rising everyone in society. This behaviour and subsequent consequences is far wider reaching than just them and theirs.

What if your husband couldn't support you?

And if she doesn't have a partner who can support her?
Londontown12 · 11/01/2021 16:46

@goodwinter
I would have to apply for some kind of help like universal credit I would expect x

howaboutme · 11/01/2021 16:46

There's still people on my sm getting nails and eyelashes done so I'm assuming these nail and lash technicians are still working from home.

Londontown12 · 11/01/2021 16:50

@Carlislemumof4
She could apply for some kind of benefits I would expect like I would if I was on my own but regardless of support we don’t know her circumstances she could be richer than me couldn’t she ? Whilst us hairdressers are sticking to the rules and losing money it bloody annoys me that other don’t give a shut and those kinda hairdressers are not professionals x

Caring about the welfare of others isn't about Covid only. I'm not going to be responsible for her losing her home or not being able to feed herself. I know she went through a hellish divorce in recent years, going under financially would be the last straw for many.
clopper · 11/01/2021 16:55

I wouldn’t report

Quaagars · 11/01/2021 17:07

No, I wouldn't.
You don't know the circumstances, you're just going off a picture someone has posted on the internet.
Hardly "evidence."
Even then, I wouldn't report.
I'd roll my eyes and think them stupid, but that's it.
I'm sticking to all rules, what is the point on getting "unbelievably angry" at what others are doing?
You can't control other people's behaviour however much you want to.
That way driving yourself mad lies.

starfish4 · 11/01/2021 17:14

If you're sure if the facts, then yes. It's dire at the moment, so we really need to follow the rules. Hairdressing clearly isn't allowed, they're can't be any twisting of the rules, I guess only exception is if you're all in a bubble, but right now I think even bubbles need to be careful and close contact for hairdressing isn't essential.

cleanasawhistle · 11/01/2021 17:23

I saw one from the first lockdown.
Woman had fillers in her lips and tagged the lady whos house she had been to.
I am guesssing the lady she tagged got in touch because it was taken down very quickly.

I am not sure I could report anyone but wouldn't blame those who do

ShagMeRiggins · 11/01/2021 17:33

There could be some services that are allowed within specific industries that you’re not aware of.

I’d be making damn sure I know what hairdressers are allowed to do and not do— legally, not just “guidelines”—before reporting anything.

At one point hairdressers weren’t allowed to see clients but were allowed to train, for example.

Don’t know about beauty schools/FE colleges, but it’s possible this woman modelled for an online class.

Also possible (but highly doubtful) that this was a bespoke tutorial online where the hairdresser guided someone in the family to do the hair.

Another thought is this might have been filmed as an advertising campaign and that might or might not be legal.

I doubt any of the above scenarios but the point is you don’t know, nor do I.

Be careful when you mess with people’s lives and livelihoods. The beauty industry has been fucked over enough as it is.

Ps—the social media stuff is titdom at its finest. Angry

Clusterfckintolerant · 11/01/2021 17:42

Not this BS again. I'm all for compliance but I absolutely wouldn't dream of reporting.

Outrage is one thing, arrogance is another. You don't know the situation and you could be forcing someone to have a possibly triggering convo with whoever rocks up to ask them about it.

The hairdresser could actually be a single mum, bubbling with the woman that had her hair done. Alternatively, she might be trying to feed her children, or be fleeing domestic violence. It goes on.

I'd redirect your judgement towards the government who are responsible for both the current covid numbers and the lack of financial support in place.

im5050 · 11/01/2021 17:46

I know of several beauticians, nail technicians, & therapists that do Botox and fillers & hairdressers who have all pretty much worked throughout due to the fact that they couldn’t survive on UC as they have mortgages to pay and with UC you only get help with the mortgage after 9 months and only the interest is paid .
The first lockdown they all stopped for about a month - 6 weeks then slowly went back to “undercover treatments” 😩
They all work from there own homes and have a separate treatment room within the house . Some are doing mobile treatments so travelling to the clients house .
But they are all only doing regular clients and only seeing new clients if a regular client recommends them . It’s like some underground maffia system

im5050 · 11/01/2021 17:48

Oh and no I wouldn’t report them even though I know 100 percent this is what they are doing .

puffinkoala · 11/01/2021 17:58

I really can't believe that they would both be stupid enough to share it on social media. One of them, yes, but both?

In the last week of the November lockdown I saw a few driving instructors out and about (masks on, windows open, so definitely lessons). I had some sympathy as their pupils probably had tests the following week.

Useruseruserusee · 11/01/2021 17:59

I would report. 1 in 16 people here are infected, the rates being this high would tip me over into reporting.

I’ve already said upthread that she’s not bubbled with the girl who’s hair she’s done. They both live with their respective partners, the hairdresser doesn’t have any children from what I can see so no ‘mouths to feed’. As for the fleeing domestic violence comments, well that’s a huge leap to make!

It’s all right saying don’t mess with peoples livelihoods. People are dying now and it’s not gong to get any better until we all stop mixing.
