Tighter restrictions? What else can be "tighter"??

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:32

Schools closed, work places closed, nailbars, hairdressers, clothes shops, closed. My high street is dead and a couple of big shops are permanently closing down. We've been totally indoors, going out only to get grocery and exercise.

Oh, gyms are closed, no play dates, birthdays, dinners or even coffee with friends. WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE TO STOP THE SPREAD??? What would "tighter" restrictions mean? To me, next tighter level means no grocery and exercise :(

My local hospital is totally full. I don't understand why.

How is exercise at at specific time going to work? I live in a flat and have a dog. Should I say sorry mate can’t take you out to the toilet because it’s not our allotted time!

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 22:00

I'm somebody who thinks B&M should shut too, not because it's a poor persons shop (I'm working class and used to work there) but because people are taking the actual piss

Not sure what you mean by people taking the piss?
In what way?

TravelBugLife · 10/01/2021 22:02

@Quaagars I am a non-driver, so I am with you, I didn't say I think it's the right thing to happen, but I think that is what is going to happen.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat Should have said non-essential items. Amazon were exactly who I was referring to! Minimise deliveries as the drivers visit 100s of houses a day.

echt · 10/01/2021 22:03

@puffinkoala

over 60s weren't allowed out of the house if they had someone who could shop for them

They now have about 50 deaths per week from covid.

And what's the suicide rate among the over 60s who are under house arrest? It sounds horrific.

They are not under house arrest. It is has a very specific legal definition.

What makes you think suicides will have gone up?

Wester · 10/01/2021 22:03

Police, emergency Service worked and Military to WFH.

They do so much mixing with other people and don't keep to the 2m social distance.

Everyone should quit their jobs and households should receive UC for the next 3 months.

People need to stay home and stay safe.

Bollss · 10/01/2021 22:04

Our amazon delivery man is half way down the drive before I even answer the door. I don't think deliveries are the problem here.

Why are hundreds of people coming onto this thread and just listing the same things post after post? Are they not reading the thread?

User5437 · 10/01/2021 22:04

I reckon that people sit at their keyboards thinking of the strictest thing possible to type to get the frothing started and then go on another thread and kick off if some restriction happens that affects them

puffinkoala · 10/01/2021 22:04

Being confined to their homes for months on end. As I said, it sounds horrific and since when is 60 old?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 22:05

Good luck with closing Amazon! And who decides what's essential and what isn't?

GreenlandTheMovie · 10/01/2021 22:05

I would guess

Masks outdoors
No travel for exercise
Time limit on exercise
Aisles selling non-essentials such as books and clothing taped off, as in Wales
Sex ban (i.e. no staying overnight with your support bubble)
Police checks at national borders Scotland, Wales, England
Random stopping of cars stepped up
Police powers to enter houses without warrants (already in Scotland)
Moving home banned
Lots of scary articles in newspapers
Lots of scary stories about people being stopped by police and fined for being 2 miles away from their home or sitting on a park bench
Playparks cordoned off again
Possibly having to print off permits and carry them if outside the home

I'm honestly really struggling living my life this way and am looking to move out of the UK in the summer as I can't cope with the internal travel ban or doing this next winter. I hate the way that the government here are dealing with this. And no, I won't be going to Spain, France or Italy either.

TravelBugLife · 10/01/2021 22:05

Military to WFH.

Given that they are providing medical staff to the NHS, logistical support for the vaccine roll out and security from terrorist attacks I cannot see how that would work.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 22:06

They're not under house arrest but aren't allowed to leave their houses...

Santaiscovidfree · 10/01/2021 22:06

I read Scotland suicide rates have risen by 20 %. No age bracket given..

HollowTalk · 10/01/2021 22:06

Cracking idea! Let's lock all the over 60s up!

It's an extremely poor country with only 12 ventilators. They're not asking the over 60s to work down a coal mine, they're asking them to stay indoors to protect themselves.
MrsMomoa · 10/01/2021 22:07

Yep. Let's just suck every last piece of joy out of life Hmm

HOS8595 · 10/01/2021 22:07

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - I honestly think it’s batshit how the government can say ‘sorry folk, everyone isn’t allowed out now it’s Xpm’ ... I don’t give a shit and I won’t be staying in my house after X time because Borris has said so.

There’s fuck all open anyway and only so many times people can walk around B&M a week before they are bored of that too.

It’s ridiculous, the death rate is so so low yet it’s ruining everyone’s fucking life with these lockdowns.

echt · 10/01/2021 22:07

I imagined you had some facts to back this up.

Of course 60 isn't old, though on MN it is a moveable feast I've found.

Remmy123 · 10/01/2021 22:08

They need to give it a chance. It's been nearly 4 weeks since schools were in, need to get over the next week or so and we will see numbers slow. Clearly many people mixed over the Xmas period.

echt · 10/01/2021 22:08

Nothing joyful about a pandemic.
HOS8595 · 10/01/2021 22:09

How can they time people’s exercise anyway? Police men now in the park timing individuals Confused don’t they have any real work to do.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 22:09

@HOS8595 same here. Takeaways and Amazon deliveries are about the only things I have to look forward to now and some people want to ban those.

There's no reason for a curfew when sod all is open!

HollowTalk · 10/01/2021 22:09

The thread was about what could be tighter. It's not a recommendation on my part (the bit about Central America) but just listing things that another country has put in place which has actually worked to stop the virus spreading.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 22:10

Nothing joyful about a pandemic.

No but it's possible to make it more bearable despite what some people on MN think.

Bollss · 10/01/2021 22:10

Oh for fuck sake you'll be calling for enforced misery soon and a child laughing will be an on the spot £200 fine. I've never been the most positive person but Jesus Christ you make eeyore look off his fucking face on a high.
