Tighter restrictions? What else can be "tighter"??

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:32

Schools closed, work places closed, nailbars, hairdressers, clothes shops, closed. My high street is dead and a couple of big shops are permanently closing down. We've been totally indoors, going out only to get grocery and exercise.

Oh, gyms are closed, no play dates, birthdays, dinners or even coffee with friends. WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE TO STOP THE SPREAD??? What would "tighter" restrictions mean? To me, next tighter level means no grocery and exercise :(

My local hospital is totally full. I don't understand why.

@Buzzinwithbez

over 60s weren't allowed out of the house if they had someone who could shop for them

Cracking idea! Let's lock all the over 60s up!

I was just thinking the same! When it was previously mentioned that over 60s shouldn't go out DH (age 66 and still working) said they can fuck right off!
Quaagars · 10/01/2021 21:51

those who are fined multiple times banned from using the NHS for 12 months

Shock Hmm Biscuit
You can't just start playing God on who's "worthy" of treatment or not.
Where does that end?!

WeAreHalfWayThere · 10/01/2021 21:51

There are a number of things which can be done. Things I can immediately think of:

Curfew
Seriously restricting going out (in France application had to be made)
No meeting anyone outside
Children attending school to be absolutely limited to children of front line workers where both parents are front line
No click and collect
Wearing masks at all times outside the home
Places of worship to close
Coffee shops to close for takeaway
Nurseries to close
Non essential jobs by workmen/women must cease
No cleaners

BlueBaubles12 · 10/01/2021 21:51

6pm curfew??!!

Can’t wait for the supermarket to get even busier.

DowntownFrown · 10/01/2021 21:51

Alongside cleaning products and food, B&M also sell cheap medicines, when you’ve been furloughed or made redundant that saving could be invaluable.

Flippy87 · 10/01/2021 21:51

Lots and lots of household mixing going on. Everyone I know is breaking the rules. But of course if you comment then you’re the curtain twitchy covid police Hmm

User5437 · 10/01/2021 21:53

Curfews are used to stop people going into pubs and enjoying nightlife surely, since these are closed there is no point in a curfew as it just crams people into shops in a shorter amount of time

HalfPastThree · 10/01/2021 21:53

@donewithitalltodayandxmas I guess I'm thinking about London specifically - we've been in at least Tier 2 (no socialising indoors) since October. The recent surge seems to have started towards the end of Lockdown 2 in November, and continued to skyrocket during Tier 2, Tier 3, school holidays, and Tier 4.

We'd get a lot more value by supporting people, helping them to follow the restrictions we do have, than by introducing tighter restrictions for the sake of it.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 10/01/2021 21:54

My large company is still being forced into office even though we can work from home...so people aren't following the guide lines trust me

puffinkoala · 10/01/2021 21:55

over 60s weren't allowed out of the house if they had someone who could shop for them

They now have about 50 deaths per week from covid.

And what's the suicide rate among the over 60s who are under house arrest? It sounds horrific.

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 21:55

Everyone I know is breaking the rules

Doesn't mean we all are. Nobody I know is breaking them, everyone's sticking to them and so am I.
You just don't hear of the ones going about their business and sticking to them as not newsworthy, is it.

PrincessNutNuts · 10/01/2021 21:56

@donewithitalltodayandxmas

Thing is so many complain we are doing worse than other countries yet when people Suggest meausres those countries have used, people don't want them and we can't have it both ways. Hopefully within a week or so we may start seeing the effect if this lockdown and some vaccinations ( i know a couple people who has had both) but also as we seem to be now introducing testing for lots more ( no symptoms) maybe we will pick up mire cases , but as long as deaths start going down
I'm not expecting deaths to start going down for a few weeks.

We've got the deaths caused by Christmas, then the NYE ones, then the "Sending the kids back to school for one day" ones, followed by the "millions of kids are still at school/nursery/childminder" ones...

TravelBugLife · 10/01/2021 21:56

Close nurseries
Limit exercise to one a day, for a specified time and a specified distance from your home by law (rather than just guidance).
Police public transport so it is only for Critical Workers
Close non-essential stops including delivery
Isolation for travellers
Isolation for people who have been in hospital or to a medical appointment

Apandemicyousay · 10/01/2021 21:56

How about also reinforcing the queues for essential shops too- everyone just bundling in, no 2m distancing. Yesterday in co-op, I gave the full 2m to bloke in front and the guy behind me was so annoyed, as though standing nearer the tills was an Olympic sport. In first lockdown you had to queue outside- can’t remember when I last had to do that

EggysMom · 10/01/2021 21:57

Mixed stores like B&M should be assessed on the ratio of food, drink, baby and cleaning vs. other household goods, and only allowed to open if food etc > 50%.

The problem they have is that people go in for food, but stay to browse the curtains or toys...

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 21:57

Close non-essential stops including delivery

Which will play right into Amazon's hands. I don't have a problem with that but I know a lot do.

puffinkoala · 10/01/2021 21:58

I genuinely think this is the easiest win. Tell the micromanaging bullying bosses to move into the 21st century and tell them they will be fined if they do not allow their office workers to work from home.
HOS8595 · 10/01/2021 21:58

I can’t get my head around the fucking curfew. It’s ridiculous they think they can tell us we have to stay indoors after a certain time.
Or that we can only leave for a certain period of time to work out.

Including delivery? Yay can't wait for an even bigger recession and even more jobs lost! That'll work wonders for everyone's health outcomes, and as we all know the nhs is paid for by the magic money tree growing round the back of number 10.
puffinkoala · 10/01/2021 21:59

Not everyone has a car. If someone needs to get to their elderly/vulnerable relative's, they may well need the bus or train. I don't think they are busy anyway, they are not the issue.

Birthdayrushfaff · 10/01/2021 21:59

I'm somebody who thinks B&M should shut too, not because it's a poor persons shop (I'm working class and used to work there) but because people are taking the actual piss.

Ditto the range.

I follow an MLM seller on Facebook out of pure curiosity and she's always posting about going in there and filling her trolly with stuff she doesn't need - just to get out of the house and entertain herself - so much so her partner has started demanding she stay in the car when they do need something essential.

You can get all of the essentials in B&M in other supermarkets as part of a designated essential shop. DIY stuff you can order online. Nobody needs bejazzled candle holders or crushed velvet cushion covers.

Peppafrig · 10/01/2021 21:59

Workplaces are most definitely not all closed . Hundreds of thousands on non essential construction workers are travelling up and down the country everyday.

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 21:59

Police public transport so it is only for Critical Workers

What do you suggest us non drivers do then?!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 22:00

I agree. Sadly some people seem to want this and won't be happy until every little bit of joy has been sucked out of life. It's a really shit situation but making people even more miserable isn't going to help.
Moonbabyskalimba · 10/01/2021 22:00

To the people bleating that the over 60s should stay in, you do realise that they're generally the ones providing care to the over 80s? How is that going to work?
