Tighter restrictions? What else can be "tighter"??

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:32

Schools closed, work places closed, nailbars, hairdressers, clothes shops, closed. My high street is dead and a couple of big shops are permanently closing down. We've been totally indoors, going out only to get grocery and exercise.

Oh, gyms are closed, no play dates, birthdays, dinners or even coffee with friends. WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE TO STOP THE SPREAD??? What would "tighter" restrictions mean? To me, next tighter level means no grocery and exercise :(

My local hospital is totally full. I don't understand why.

I agree Robby
I laws have had the vaccination and acting 'invisible'

My teenage son has been popping into the store for us. He had Covid in November, but not once did we think it was ever fine to send him in unmasked.

sofiaaaaaa · 11/01/2021 16:46

I was at a hospital skin clinic recently. Was sat in the waiting room and could not believe the audacity of a woman there.

She put her mask on when staff were around at the start, then took it off and just hung it off her right ear. Because she was facing sideways to the staff, it may have seemed like she was still wearing it to them. But nah, she was just sat like that with it off for at least an hour. Such an entitled cunt.

Wishing14 · 11/01/2021 16:50

@Meredithgrey1 I agree but think it’s the ‘taking mask off, putting mask on’ whilst going in and out of places that is not working. If you had it on the whole time out of the house you would wash hands and dispose (or wash mask) once returning home. If you are going outside for a walk only though I would agree you wouldn’t need a mask.

Iusedtobecarmen · 11/01/2021 16:52

I think masks for runners is mental and im all for tighter restrictions!. I cant remember the last time a runner ran that close to me . A surely a jogger can run away from an incoming person!!
I see masks worn (mostly) in supermarkets. The worst nonmask wearers i see are on buses!
Yet again, today ,there were several passengers on my journey without masks. One man directly behind me laughing and chatting loudly in his phone too.
I would love these flouters to be told they arent allowed on!
I have been wearing a mask at work since last year, all day or all night!! Plus public transport, shops etc. And some idiots moan they have to wear one for a ten min bus journey!
Too many ppl are out and and about.
What makes me mad is those who are saying that they have had enough. I genuinely feel bad for those who live alone, elderly who cant get out and those shielding. but for the most part a lot of ppl are still doing what they want as much as they are physically able. Everything is just guidance, not enforced.

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/01/2021 16:57

@MrsMiaWallis

She replied that she had the 2 doses of vaccine so didn't need one she probably doesn't to be fair although it's a bit soon.

Can you still spread it if you are vaccinated?

YES. You can still carry the virus and spread it. MASK STILL NEEDED!

There is research ongoing to see how much vaccines have an effect on transmission, but the above is true atm.

I’ve no idea but maybe all shops should shut at the weekends. Things are super busy where I live at the weekends. I’ve no idea where everyone is going though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Redlocks28 · 11/01/2021 17:05

I think it’s totally pointless to talk about wearing masks going for a walk outside when you still have some schools with 60% of children and staff in, packed into classrooms with no masks and no caps on numbers!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/01/2021 17:06

I saw 10 adults squashed round a picnic table yesterday. I doubt they were one household.

Another group of 4 adults (2 x sets of parents) and 7 kids. Maybe they all lived on one house?🤔

PoppinAlong · 11/01/2021 17:06

Do we really think they will remove support bubbles? This is devastating

It's just been on sky news that Matt Hancock told parliament today that the government is not considering this. Try not to worry too much. I think they know that people would still do this even if they did try to put a stop to it. I imagine the current support bubble system is the only thing holding back the floodgates on mental health crisis for a lot of people.

Imo, pressure needs to be put on employers to allow people to WFH when they can. A lot who worked from home last time are this time telling staff to come in. That is so wrong imo.

There are shops still open that I personally wouldn't deem as essential i.e. the range... Doesn't seem to be as strict in supermarkets either this time as to how many people can be in the shop. Not had to queue once this time like I did last lockdown.

With things like limiting exercise to X amount of time or only going out once a day, I'm not sure how well that could be enforced. I mean realistically how is anyone going to know if you've been out for 1 hour or 2 hours as you jog past?

lockeddownandcrazy · 11/01/2021 17:08

@southeastdweller

Surely at Morrisons people can say they’re exempt from wearing masks and they can be allowed in?
Hopefully they will be asking for some actual evidence not a self declared 'dislike' or 'anxiety' but actual real medical reasons. Have to see if they actually will or not, some local shops have a 'no mask no entry' sign up.
GreenlandTheMovie · 11/01/2021 17:10

@Woolysock

I wonder what would happen if wearing masks outdoors was made compulsory here. It’s happened in other countries already and it’s been talked about in the news. What we’ve been doing doesn’t seem to be working, so it’s a matter or time when restrictions whatever they are will get tighter.
Where is "other countries"?

I know of many other countries. I don't know of outdoor mask wearing there.

How many "other countries" are needed to influence mask wearing in further countries?

AgentCooper · 11/01/2021 17:10

What’s bugging me now is that so many of the ‘possibilities’ for increased restrictions seem arbitrary and an effort to be seen to be doing something without much chance of making an impact.

Tackling what the fuck is going on in hospitals (how my DH got it), with visiting carers (how my FIL got it) and in care homes (how my friend’s stepdad got it) would be useful.

Iusedtobecarmen · 11/01/2021 17:11

@ArseinthecoopWindow
depends where you live
If you live in a nice middle class village or town i can imagine compliance

Try being shithole inner city where I live,people are doing whatever they like

Meredithgrey1 · 11/01/2021 17:12

@Thefeep

Restricting shopping hours would just make the supermarkets busier when they are open.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/01/2021 17:14

Guilty as charged!😳

middleager · 11/01/2021 17:17

Iused I agree. In my local town, Walsall, which was consistently voted on the Covid Risk Register as the highest risk area for Covid based on its poor healthcare, poverty, multigenerational living etc there is poor compliance. It's also been shocking in parts of Birmingham too, including Stetchford and Perry Barr.

In a more affluent area where I sometimes work, it's high compliance.

bondgirl76 · 11/01/2021 17:21

It can get a lot stricter.....

Pyeby · 11/01/2021 17:23

Most primary schools, including mine, have around 50% of pupils in. Nothing like lockdown in March, I'd say was more like 10 % then.

mummy203 · 11/01/2021 17:25

Are schools really closed? Some teachers on here reported that they had 70% of the class in as key workers. That seems high

Pyeby · 11/01/2021 17:25

Completely agree!

Meredithgrey1 · 11/01/2021 17:26

Have Morrison’s said what they’ll do if someone just says “I’m exempt”?
I don’t see really how this policy change is much of a change at all, if people who aren’t really exempt have been happy breaking the law for 6 months will this announcement make any difference?
The announcement seems more for publicity and being seen to be doing something.

And I’m coming at this from the view of hoping people don’t still get allowed in, it must be awful to be genuinely exempt.

Pyeby · 11/01/2021 17:26

Schools are certainly not closed

141mum · 11/01/2021 17:27

Stop shops like Wilko, B & M , Dunelm from opening. Shut Nursery’s.
And how come Construction NEVER in all the lockdowns get shut, does the government not think they do not matter enough
I went past a retail park today which has M & S, Dunelm and all the others and the car park was packed

Quaagars · 11/01/2021 17:29

Another B and M bash. why?!
How is it not essential when it's a food supermarket in most cases and also essential cleaning products etc?

notimagain · 11/01/2021 17:29
