Tighter restrictions? What else can be "tighter"??

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:32

Schools closed, work places closed, nailbars, hairdressers, clothes shops, closed. My high street is dead and a couple of big shops are permanently closing down. We've been totally indoors, going out only to get grocery and exercise.

Oh, gyms are closed, no play dates, birthdays, dinners or even coffee with friends. WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE TO STOP THE SPREAD??? What would "tighter" restrictions mean? To me, next tighter level means no grocery and exercise :(

My local hospital is totally full. I don't understand why.

Household mixing. That’s where it’s spreading.

ToHellinahandbasket · 10/01/2021 20:34

Support bubbles I guess :( I really really hope not. My baby under 1 bubble has saved my sanity (PND) and my job!
Curfew could also be introduced.
Garden centres and places like B&M could close.
Play areas could close.
Nurseries could close.

DisgruntledPelican · 10/01/2021 20:35

So nothing else can be done, as enforcing the ban on household mixing is almost impossible to do consistently, if at all.

HermannlovesPauline · 10/01/2021 20:35

Close nonessential construction and manufacturing? Stop non essential shops from offering click and collect?

There are lots of people still working in others houses - cleaners, plumbers, next door have a decorator in at the moment

Splodgetastic · 10/01/2021 20:36

People in hospital now probably caught it three to four weeks ago - possibly in pubs etc. or from those that were (in tier two there was definitely lots of household mixing happening even though there shouldn’t have been). I wish they’d just give the tighter restrictions time to work.

MercyBooth · 10/01/2021 20:37

Someone in my tenant group has no running water. Perhaps Susan Michie would like to do a house swap with her.

5zeds · 10/01/2021 20:37

Schools could close for many more students
Nurseries could close
People could stop working outside the home
Dentists and vets could reduce service
Church/places of worship could close
Exercise could be further limited
Nannies/cleaners/gardeners could stop work
Shopping could be further limited

Sorry can’t think of anything else off the top of my head

PotteringAlong · 10/01/2021 20:37

Our local press are reporting
6pm curfew
Closing nurseries
Removal of support bubbles
Closure of “essential” shops like garden centres.

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:37

I thought household mixing was banned long ago??? Why are people still doing it ?? PEOPLE ARE DYING!! In 1000s. The NHS is getting butchered. Do we really live in such a scarily selfish world?

YY @Splodgetastic they have no patience. Im in a support bubble as im a carer for my DH. They stop it and SS will get a phone call to say im going on strike. And i will be encouraging others to do the same.

alexdgr8 · 10/01/2021 20:39

close churches
nurseries
playgrounds
outdoor gyms
only one shopper per trolley
no entry to shops/buses etc without face covering.
only walk for exercise from home, no driving there.
food shopping within 5 miles
no non-essential shopping
masks to be worn when outdoors.

More suicides if this happens .... been nearly a year now it is terrible
Floralnomad · 10/01/2021 20:40

Tighter would be like the first lockdown so garden centres , NT places etc closed . As it is I think there are still too many places for people to actually go including shops like the range / Wilkos , DIY shops - all these sorts of places should at most be click and collect . I realise that its not a popular opinion but to me there is absolutely no logic in what is deemed essential in this current lockdown .

ToHellinahandbasket · 10/01/2021 20:40

@PotteringAlong I don’t know what I’ll do if they remove support bubbles.
I genuinely don’t know how I will cope

cormorantes · 10/01/2021 20:41

Lockdown has been less than a week! Why are you expecting it to have made an impact yet. Clearly it should have been enforced much earlier but it has not been nearly long enough to have shown it working yet

Spiratedaway · 10/01/2021 20:41

I do agree places like costa , b&q etc shut

HermannlovesPauline · 10/01/2021 20:41

I think we’re still seeing the hangover from Christmas mixing op - we’ve really not given the current restrictions chance. People in the south could still go for a meal and a pint a month ago!

NotMeNoNo · 10/01/2021 20:41

I'm sure a big part of it is people who can't work from home, can't be furloughed and can't afford to walk away from their jobs or avoid public transport. Warehouses, manufacturers, finance, supply chains, transport. People don't have options and not every workplace will be Covid safe.

321zyx · 10/01/2021 20:42

Close 'heritage sites', garden centres and move DIY back to click & collect.

SMaCM · 10/01/2021 20:42

Stop all the click and collect, because that's why the shopping centres are all still full of people.

StrippedFridge · 10/01/2021 20:42

A large part of the spread is within hospitals. Closing garden centres won't stop hospitals creating their own problem.

MercyBooth · 10/01/2021 20:43

What @NotMeNoNo said.

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:43

@allPotteringAlong where are you?

Places of worship to close
Curfew after 2100
Police have powers to entry houses and on the spot fines
Parents to pay teens fines
No more family trips to supermarkets. Single parents to be exempt
Masks for everyone inside. No exemptions
No more travelling to beauty spots for exercise
Cafes to close. What is the obsession with take away coffee? It encourages lingering
No cleaners

NotMeNoNo · 10/01/2021 20:43

I meant to say, many of these are not public facing but still involve contact between people or working indoors in groups.
