Tighter restrictions? What else can be "tighter"??

R2221 · 10/01/2021 20:32

Schools closed, work places closed, nailbars, hairdressers, clothes shops, closed. My high street is dead and a couple of big shops are permanently closing down. We've been totally indoors, going out only to get grocery and exercise.

Oh, gyms are closed, no play dates, birthdays, dinners or even coffee with friends. WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE TO STOP THE SPREAD??? What would "tighter" restrictions mean? To me, next tighter level means no grocery and exercise :(

My local hospital is totally full. I don't understand why.

@Katie517
You beat me to it. Hope you're doing ok- my friend is struggling even with the support. Before it was allowed she was in a dark dark place. Some people just have no idea

Buzzinwithbez · 10/01/2021 21:31

It would be good if everyone could wear masks outside rather than forcing everyone who wants to go for a walk to do it in daylight hours.

So where I walk can be pretty quiet with the occasional dog walker. I'm imagining how scary it will be to have a man coming t
toward our follow behind me in hat/hoodie because of the cold weather and mask and try to weigh up if I'm safe or not.

meow1989 · 10/01/2021 21:32

Re shutting macdonalds etc- I don't think they spread covid, but I do think they increase the number of cars on the road and thus increase the risk of accidents requiring a and e and thus putting more pressure on the hospitals.

Calmandmeasured1 · 10/01/2021 21:32

@roses2

Curfews would be a major one - this would stop a lot of transmission with people not being allowed out past eg 8pm
If supermarkets stay open for their usual long hours, this is better and can ensure less crowding.

Quaagars · 10/01/2021 21:32

Closure of places like The Range and B and M

Why have people on here got it in for B and M so much?!
How is that not an essential shop?!
Ours is huge, and has a massive food part.
Aisles of stuff like cereal, pasta, tins of tuna/meat, noodles, tea, coffee, etc and even a freezer aisle full of frozen food too.
Then there's an aisle of essential cleaning products etc.
What good would it do closing B and M when for some it's their nearest supermarket?
Never been to the Range so not sure what that's like

User158340 · 10/01/2021 21:33

@DisgruntledPelican

So nothing else can be done, as enforcing the ban on household mixing is almost impossible to do consistently, if at all.
It's up to people to report their neighbours to the police.
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 10/01/2021 21:33

I don't think they will touch support bubbles but just tell people to be careful when using and use them as intended
I.e childcare is for childcare not so that you can pop round your friends/ family for a coffee when you like

Splodgetastic · 10/01/2021 21:35

@donewithitalltodayandxmas You can still breathe fresh air with a mask on, honestly!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2021 21:35

It's up to people to report their neighbours to the police.

Perhaps people should get a life and stop the curtain twitching and remember they have to live with these people when life gets back to normal.

clopper · 10/01/2021 21:35

I think we should give this current lockdown a chance first before imposing new restrictions. The effects of this won’t be felt yet.

TiersBeforeBedtime · 10/01/2021 21:36

@R2221

I thought household mixing was banned long ago??? Why are people still doing it ?? PEOPLE ARE DYING!! In 1000s. The NHS is getting butchered. Do we really live in such a scarily selfish world?
You do know, don't you, that PEOPLE WERE DYING before Covid came along? It's kind of inevitable.
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 10/01/2021 21:36

@HalfPastThree no we haven't been doing for weeks . In some areas just a few weeks back inside household mixing was allowed ( tier 1) I live in a tier 2 area pubs and restaurants only shut on 24th so just over 3 weeks ago.
Also so many more having to go into work compared to last time.
I am temping could easily do from home but the company won't allow it and 6 of us in small office , we wit 2m away and have screens up but Im not sure that would be enough if someone gets the new strain

PrincessNutNuts · 10/01/2021 21:36

Limit travel to a set distance from your home.

Close nurseries/childminders

Tighten up key worker status to empty the schools

Close takeaways and go to delivery only.

Limit leaving the house to once a day/ask people not to leave the hose at all for a set period.

Close down churches, construction and Sport

Shut shops/ allow one shop per household per week.

Exercise alone outside

Tighten up on mask "exemptions"

No supermarket shopping without a negative test?

Make it unusual to be out/on the roads.

Close/drastically reduce the availability of public transport

Stop cleaners, nannies, new kitchen fitting and other workers in private homes.

TiersBeforeBedtime · 10/01/2021 21:37

Also.. why have so many people got an axe to grind about B&M? Is it because it's a "poor people's shop"?

BonnesVacances · 10/01/2021 21:37

Well there must be plenty of workplaces open as all my neighbours' cars have gone every morning in this lockdown and not a single car moved in the first one. So making sure employers send their employees to work from home would be a start towards reducing more social contact.

oneglassandpuzzled · 10/01/2021 21:37

@Nowmum43

People just need to follow the rules, that's a start! You cut down to just one keyworker parent children allowed in school then you will loose a lot of critical workers who need to them look after their own children, Removing support bubbles will destroy people, but people need to stop taking the piss and having as many as they want! And maybe, just maybe it's Carrie who needs the support of her mum and not Boris who probably works a ridiculous amount of hours a day.
Perhaps she’s trying to work, too.
Splodgetastic · 10/01/2021 21:37

@Buzzinwithbez Funny you should say that, I was mistaken for a man the other day with my mask on. It is great for anonymity and ignoring people!

wanderings · 10/01/2021 21:37

Mumsnet never fails to disappoint. Another thread full of zealots salivating over yet more misery. (Drool)

Thewinterofdiscontent · 10/01/2021 21:38

I think people forget that EVERYTHING used to shut on Sundays and everywhere outside of a big town would have half day closing. Even supermarkets closed at 6pm.
This was 70’s and 80’s.

So more restrictive than even lockdown has been. Yet apparently no Costa means all the joy from life will be gone.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 10/01/2021 21:39

@splodgetastic not the same as breathing without , I struggle with one inside , no need for outside yet.
Especially if going to a place where hardly anyone there , I admit when shops were open I used to keep mine on outside between shops to stop having to keep touching etc
But i can go on a walk and stay more than 2 m from
Others

Birthdayrushfaff · 10/01/2021 21:39

The number of people who are keen to get the army on the streets is disturbing. What are the army going to do that the police can’t? Shoot people?

With a bit of luck yes, that's a brilliant idea. Less people milling about transmitting covid.

PrincessNutNuts · 10/01/2021 21:39

@clopper

I've been in either Tier 4 or Lockdown for three weeks. Numbers still climbing...
HollowTalk · 10/01/2021 21:39

My son is in a Central American country at the moment. It's a poor country; third world, I suppose. Right from the beginning they:

  • closed the airport from March to the end of September
  • after that wouldn't let anyone into the country without a negative test taken within the last 72 hours
  • insisted on quarantine and checked up on people
  • insisted shops installed temperature gauges (at their own expense) - nobody is allowed in a shop unless their temperature is within range (it's a no tough gauge)
  • only one person per family is allowed into a shop
  • before going into a shop you have to wear gloves and sanitise your hands and trolley
  • one way system around shops
  • over 60s weren't allowed out of the house if they had someone who could shop for them
  • there was a curfew from 7 pm until 4 am

They now have about 50 deaths per week.

TiersBeforeBedtime · 10/01/2021 21:40

Oh, yes, Costa.

I disagree with lockdowns because I want to go to Costa where I have never been in my life

I actually disagree with lockdowns because I work in the Arts, and haven't been able to work since March, and don't qualify for any support.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 10/01/2021 21:40

Well I agree on shutting b&m maybe permenantly as I go in for dettol and it always costs me £50 upwards Smile
