Hi all,

Just after some advice, I went for a walk with my friend for about 25 mins, prob at 1m distance who tested positive the next day. What do you think the chances are of infection?

OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 10/01/2021 18:34

Reasonable. I think you need to isolate, though that’s what most of us are effectively doing anyway. Fingers crossed you don’t get it.

PotteringAlong · 10/01/2021 18:35

If it’s the new variant then probably quite high.

tellthem · 10/01/2021 18:35

pretty good chance

abersinas · 10/01/2021 18:35

You need to isolate unless you were both wearing masks

eeyore228 · 10/01/2021 18:36

And we wonder why the police are fining people on walks?

Catplanter · 10/01/2021 18:36

Quite high I expect. You should have been 2 m and wearing a mask really.

anyoldname76 · 10/01/2021 18:36

I'd say to isolate for 10 days, if you develop symptoms then get a test

Trumplosttheelection · 10/01/2021 18:36

You need to isolate.

redcarbluecar · 10/01/2021 18:38

I wouldn’t have thought the chances were that high, but maybe get a test, especially if you won’t be able to avoid contact with others.

Mumsnut · 10/01/2021 18:38

From a purely selfish point of view, I’d love it if you got a test

A positive result would clarify a lot of minds, I suspect

Ch3rish · 10/01/2021 18:39

It's impossible to know, if we could predict things like this I'd say it would make infection easier to control.

Afaik all we are certain of is that there is no certainty as to who will catch it

Isn't the statistic on household members infecting each other still way less than 100%?

FreshFreesias · 10/01/2021 18:40

Very little.

dementedpixie · 10/01/2021 18:42

Did you face each other to talk ?
Its less risky to be outside as particles will get diluted and dispersed in the air

Jobsharenightmare · 10/01/2021 18:45

I hope your friend is OK. I think quite high with the new more transmissible variant. I really hope they ban people meeting anyone from outside their household without masks on because so many people can't seem to stick to 2m.

Is there a chance that 1m was even less? I think people overestimate distance.
I think there's a chance, yes.

dementedpixie · 10/01/2021 18:47

@heLacksnotluster

Book a test. Don’t wait for symptoms.
Not supposed to book a test in the absence of symptoms. Could be too soon anyway as OP didn't say when contact was
SmartyPants0 · 10/01/2021 18:50

If I was you I would have a test as so many people are not displaying any symptoms, this in my opinion is why it is spreading, I would be asking your friend if she had taken the test before she had agreed to meet you for a walk...

Hi all,

Just after some advice, I went for a walk with my friend for about 25 mins, prob at 1m distance who tested positive the next day. What do you think the chances are of infection?

So did your friend not tell you she had symptoms and had taken a test?

How was she able to get a test and the results the next day and not have symptoms?

user1471530109 · 10/01/2021 18:56

Actually, Matt Hancock said this morning that everyone in England will be able to access a test regardless of symptoms (I think from tomorrow).

OP-i hope you're ok and that you're friend ends up having a mild case.

I really hope my boss has been watching the news this weekend (he will have). He is insisting all staff in every day even though we can do our job at home.

luckylavender · 10/01/2021 18:56

How did she test positive the next day? If she'd already taken the test then she shouldn't have been out.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 10/01/2021 18:57

So did your friend not tell you she had symptoms and had taken a test? How was she able to get a test and the results the next day and not have symptoms?

Just what I was coming on to ask.

Ch3rish · 10/01/2021 18:57

@heLacksnotluster

Book a test. Don’t wait for symptoms.
That's the wrong advice isn't it? If you you've been in contact with someone who has tested positive you're meant to wait for symptoms arent you? Unless you test everyday for 14 days a negative test doesnt mean you aren't incubating.
Ch3rish · 10/01/2021 18:58

@luckylavender

How did she test positive the next day? If she'd already taken the test then she shouldn't have been out.
Maybe she has regular asymptomatic tests for her work, you don't have to isolate for those.
Almostslimjim · 10/01/2021 18:58

No point booking a test unless you have symptoms or it is 8days since the walk.

Depends if you were at least 1m and facing away from each other. If at any point you were facing each other and 1m or less, then reasonably high with the new strain.
