Hi all,

Just after some advice, I went for a walk with my friend for about 25 mins, prob at 1m distance who tested positive the next day. What do you think the chances are of infection?

OP posts:

Most pavements and paths in the parks round here are not even 2m wide. I just walk by myself with the dog and turn away if I pass anyone but no way are we 2m metres away from each other but luckily it is only seconds in passing. I frequently see 2 friends walking and mostly 1 metre max although obviously side by side.
I will try and cross to the other pavement if possible - some times it isn't. Further, some are shared cycle paths and pavements.

AmoElCafe · 10/01/2021 19:47

@Dawnlassie

The guidance was 2m with the less infectious strain. Why the fuck are people meeting people now we have a more infectious variant. Talk on the phone!

Fucking morons.

They might be morons, but at least they’re not nasty cunts 🤷🏻‍♀️
Skipsurvey · 10/01/2021 19:47

isolate op

Purplethrow · 10/01/2021 19:47

If people are having regular tests for their work do they have to take extra precautions when out and about as it is obviously assumed they are higher risk of having it ?

StarfishExpress · 10/01/2021 19:49

@LizzieSiddal

Am I the only one who wants to know why you were walking only 1m apart when the rules say 2m?
Yes.
OverTheRainbow88 · 10/01/2021 19:52

@Purplethrow

No; they follow the same Guidelines

Doublefaced · 10/01/2021 19:52

The issue of testing is irrelevant at present.
You have been a close contact with a positive case therefore you isolate for 10 days.
How the fuck are we nearly a year into this mess and people still don’t get it?

Purplethrow · 10/01/2021 19:53

No; they follow the same Guidelines

Thank you

Doublefaced · 10/01/2021 19:53

Extra precautions above and beyond masks, social distancing and hand washing? No.
Purplethrow · 10/01/2021 19:55

@Doublefaced thank you

bigbluebus · 10/01/2021 19:55

A friend's partner played a non contact outdoor sport partnering with someone who tested positive 2 days later. They sought advice from GP neighbour who advised him to isolate and then get tested 5 days after contact. He did and was thankfully negative.

Viviennemary · 10/01/2021 19:55

As high as it gets.

LDB1985 · 10/01/2021 19:55

I won’t have passed it on as I self isolated for 14 days. Appreciate I can’t say for certain I didn’t have it but we also don’t know I did!

PinkPandaBear · 10/01/2021 20:02

@eeyore228

And we wonder why the police are fining people on walks?
I don’t know what’s scarier. The fact that police are fining people going out for exercise in a quiet area, or that people are applauding this and begging for a British version of the Gestapo.

It’s not against the law to go for a walk.

Sittinbythetree · 10/01/2021 20:07

Obviously you need to isolate, but I’m sure you realise that.
If you get a —pointless— test and it’s negative you STILL need to isolate as all it means is that you don’t have it YET.

Henio · 10/01/2021 20:07

I was watching some ladies talking outside in the cold the other day and I could see their breath blowing onto each other as they spoke, kind of made me realise how easy it is to spread around

AreyouseriousClark · 10/01/2021 20:10

@eeyore228

And we wonder why the police are fining people on walks?
Yes but why are people fining people on walks if it's not against the law?
AreyouseriousClark · 10/01/2021 20:10

police not people

AreyouseriousClark · 10/01/2021 20:11

What @PinkPandaBear said.

CanWeHaveSnow · 10/01/2021 20:13

Did she already have the test before you went on the walk?
If so, She shouldnt of been out.

Your chance is fairly high i think.....

Coffeeandcocopops · 10/01/2021 20:13

Kent has asymptomatic testing now and anyone can go and get tested. Results in 30 mins.

Robbybobtail · 10/01/2021 20:14

God, people are ridiculous on here. I would say the chances are extremely low OP. Considering:
My dsis who is nhs and has worked with covid patients since March hasn’t caught it, neither have most of her colleagues (despite having only the blue masks and a plastic apron for protection)
Out of the 3 families I know who have had members of their family test positive, other family members have remained negative despite living in the same house and not staying apart from one another until they new they had it (and two of these were married couples sharing a bed)
So yeah, I’d say the chances are pretty minimal.

People need to get a grip, seriously. The speed with which people are willing to give up all freedoms and will only be happy once we are welded into our homes and surviving on tinned food from the back of the cupboard that went out of date in 2001 is really fucking frightening quite frankly.
I’m only glad no one I know in RL seems to think like this.

winterchills · 10/01/2021 20:15

I would definitely get a test

Robbybobtail · 10/01/2021 20:15

*knew not new!

Delatron · 10/01/2021 20:19

Yep @Robbybobtail

People are ridiculous on here. We know the risk of spread outside is low. Had this changed? The new variant spreads more outside does it?

OP the chance is very low. It’s close contact indoors for more than 15 minutes that is risky. So much hysteria on here.
