Sorry I’m not sure how to link this but it’s on BBC news.

We’ve got parents trying to send in their 17 year olds into school 🙄 may I add these don’t have any additional needs etc

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:09

@OverTheRainbow88 it’s not on is it. We’ve got a few children with a stay at home parent and I just don’t understand the logic. They know children are catching it in setting too.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/01/2021 12:13

There needs to be a blanket closure of nurseries only for key worker children.
No parents should not pay fees if their child cannot attend and you would hope the government would step in to help with the shortfall as they seem to be helping other businesses. I appreciate we may see some nurseries close but sadly this will apply to a lot of places during this pandemic. I have asked for unpaid leave but due to being so short staffed due to staff isolating or recovering from covid I am not allowed any. Due to staff absence we are just about able to open as we need so many staff to be safely in ratio.

Wow that's odd! Why would you do that?!
CocoPark · 12/01/2021 12:14

@SendHelp30 Parents on here have explained in detail the genuine difficulties they and their children face by closing nurseries again and rather than address ANY of the points raised you labeled us all lazy and selfish, and dismissed our jobs. Then revealed you barely work yourself. Cringeworthy hypocrisy.

And still no actual demonstration of nurseries having any higher rate of infection than anywhere else?

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 12:15
@Same4Walls it doesn’t help but it’s frustrating for those of us affected and I hope people can understand that. It’s upsetting and frustrating and there’s nothing we can do.
By sending them in it is putting the workers at risk. I get not everything can close but this is a profession where you are in almost constant close contact, feeding, clothing, changing etc and we all know young children pick germs up easily and spread them. They don’t blow noses into tissues and cough into their hands etc.
Of course its frustrating but equally these parents are paying for your services so they can continue to do their jobs and keep the economy going. No one is saying there is an easy solution and of course people are grateful their nursery workers are still doing their jobs. I understand nursery staff feel unappreciated but there are many staff in many sectors feeling that way right now. Its undeniable that staff would feel safer with fewer children but you simply cannot argue that closing nurseries won't have a hugely detrimental effect on the rates of spread and the amount of keyworkers able to do their jobs. So on balance no matter how much you might wish they would close to do so would be more detrimental.

IndecentFeminist · 12/01/2021 12:19

As soon as someone repeatedly opts for calling others 'dear' in an attempt to patronise it just demonstrates that they are riled and on the ropes.

I would also suggest that assuming all roles done from home are admin based implies that those are the only roles said poster has experience of. 🤷 Nowt wrong with that of course, but somewhat ironic when she uses that as an insult.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/01/2021 12:29

If you are so desperate for nursery staff to keep working why not vent your anger and frustration at the government to give us priority for the vaccine. I know from talking to my colleagues that would give us the confidence to keep working.

SandysMam · 12/01/2021 12:39

Does anyone know if nurseries ARE going to close? It seems to have gone quiet!

Starmer put his foot in it on Sunday

Whitty dispelled that they would close yesterday

Boogie5678 · 12/01/2021 12:42

I don’t think any of us know for certain but I imagine they will be next on the list of closures. I think the writing is on the wall unfortunately

Are you keen that they close?
Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/01/2021 12:45

Health of England said since September 10% of cases and clusters of covid outbreak have been traced back to early years settings.

Where did they (do you mean Public Health England) say that? That's an extraordinary - literally, unbelievable - figure.
Boogie5678 · 12/01/2021 12:49

Marsha - I have every compassion for parents of little ones in nursery who need to work. I just don’t think it’s ultimately fair to throw the staff under a bus when they have no chance of social distancing. I have lots of friends who have kids in nursery ( mine are not long out) and also I know lots of staff too having worked in the industry so I can see both sides.

OP posts:
IndecentFeminist · 12/01/2021 12:49

I don't think they will. There is no writing on any walls anywhere. No issue for me personally as a keyworker either way.

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 12:50

All outbreaks?

It’s 2% for about 500 to 700 a week. Tiny amount, I’m not scrolling back but early on on thread.

Hardbackwriter · 12/01/2021 12:51

Oh, a quick google found what you meant, I think. That 10% of outbreaks in educational settings were in early years. Which is nothing like what you said...

I see. Makes more sense
SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:52

@Ilovegreentomatoes there is a grant for early years provision if you have a look on the gov website. It sets out a certain amount per amount of place closures so you can also apply for it for bubble closures of a 10 days period. Hope it helps! X

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:53

My “barely working” means I don’t leave my kids in childcare everyday.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/01/2021 13:00

Sendhelp ignore the nasty comments we all know that if we get sick it won't be the parents giving a shit how will we look.after our kids as long as their kids are taken care of they couldn't give a toss about us.

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 13:03

Send would have got a better response if they had outlined what they’re nursery was doing rather than jumping in with the selfish admin insults, which were silly as far from reality.

Also with funds there could raise staff wages above minimum wage.

Nursery owners can stop fees if they want fewer in. Lots they can do rather than insult people on mn.
