Sorry I’m not sure how to link this but it’s on BBC news.

OP posts:

@CocoPark no I do intensive physiotherapy with both children in the evening and various other therapies.
Definitely all in it together I have a fantastic network of parents whose children also have disabilities and are therefore very understanding.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:45

@CocoPark you’ve nothing to feel guilty for?

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 11:46
@Same4Walls if they can’t do their jobs with children do less hours, ask for furlough. Or hire a nanny. Marry a man who can help out. If you can’t survive without 2 full time wages, don’t have more kids. Lots of ideas.
Well that's great practical advice isn't it Hmm. Is there an address for where they can return their children given they were conceived before the pandemic was known about...

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:47

@CocoPark it’s not your fault my son is dying. You asked why I work 2 days a week and I told you why.

MessAllOver · 12/01/2021 11:47

@SendHelp30. You really don't have a lot of respect for either the working parents who use your nursery or the service you provide to them, do you?

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:47

@Same4Walls shouldn’t you be working love

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 11:49
@Same4Walls shouldn’t you be working love
Why would you think I should be working? Or is that just a convinient statement to end a discussion you know you cannot proceed in?

TheKeatingFive · 12/01/2021 11:49

if they can’t do their jobs with children do less hours

Business won’t allow me. I’m one of only a few fee earners. 6 people’s jobs depend on the projects I bring in, so it’s not just about me.

ask for furlough

No chance. See above.

Or hire a nanny

Trust me, I would if I could. Supply is non existent.

Marry a man who can help out

Bit late for that, huh? Plus needs lead in time.

Got any more bright ideas?

CocoPark · 12/01/2021 11:50

@SendHelp30 absolutely not, not by you. You threw the mud on worried working parents, you acted like a snob about the jobs being done, and when you're called out as a fool for working only 2 days yourself you reveal your children as disabled, hoping I'll feed bad enough to stop responding. Nope.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:50

@Same4Walls you keep complaining adults can’t do their jobs with their kids around im assuming this is your situation? Otherwise why are you so invested?

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:51

@CocoPark why would you feel bad 😂😂😂😂

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:51

@CocoPark nobody has called me out as a fool dear

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 11:53
@Same4Walls you keep complaining adults can’t do their jobs with their kids around im assuming this is your situation? Otherwise why are you so invested?
So you're only allowed an opinion if you're directly in the situation?

I'm invested because anyone with an ounce of sense can see that closing nurseries will lead to thousands of key workers being removed from the workforce, rates will rocket when children are looked after by grandparents and hundreds of nurseries will close for good.

Tanith · 12/01/2021 11:54

Messallover
"Why has it suddenly become acceptable to neglect and treat very young children and babies very, very badly under the guise of "it's a pandemic"? Children are not parcels to play "pass the parcel" with."

I'm not aware of any Early Years provider that was guilty of neglecting and treating young children and babies very, very badly simply by opening their doors to keyworkers without places.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/01/2021 11:58

Please don't put the responsibility of all your childcare woes on nursery workers.
They are your children we will naturally put our health and safety above looking after your kids so you can wfh.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:00

@tanith @Ilovegreentomatoes thank you.

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 12:01

How do you do that in reality? Your nursery is open and people use the service still don’t they. Is your nursery stopping fees for those who don’t use it?

Have you asked for unpaid leave?

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:03

@Same4Walls but keeping them open also continues to put people at risk. I really do see that it’s not ideal, or course I do. But see my previous post. We’ve had 2 deaths because of children who’ve passed it onto nursery workers. We’ve got 1 member of staff in ITU on a ventilator. She’s 33. Another worker has her 5 year old daughter in intensive care with covid. It’s heartbreaking and it’s pushing people away from this job so much that I really worry about the future of the profession. Nobody is applying for nurdery jobs at the moment and who can blame them. I really do get its not easy but when you’ve got colleagues and their families going through what ours are, we’ve all got to try and find a way forward. It’s so, so heartbreaking.

CocoPark · 12/01/2021 12:04

@SendHelp30 well, you sound a total fool, and a hypocrite 🤗

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:04

@Same4Walls many nurseries will close for good anyway I fear as nobody is going to want this work. @Freddiefox and I have both had recent job vacancies and people just aren’t applying. It would be easier to close for a couple of months now then have very limited childcare options long term.

frustrationcentral · 12/01/2021 12:05

I'm frightened

We have it drummed into us that households must not have contact with each other. Workplaces must be Covid safe. That people being close is what spreads this virus. I'm not talking about being with the children, I'm talking about working with 8-10 other nursery workers. I wouldn't dream of meeting up with 10 friends at the weekend, as I know how dangerous that is, but my work is ok?

We're being made to feel that we have to ignore that, put on our smiley faces and hope for the bloody best

Im afraid I'm less than happy with feeling like I'm expendable

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:05

@CocoPark why? Because I can work and look after my children?

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 12:05

but keeping them open also continues to put people at risk.

No one has disputed this but we can't just close everything that poses some risk. Some things have to stay open to help others and nurseries fall into that bracket. Nevertheless I think you'll agree that calling parents names and implying they are willingly putting their children's carers at risk helps nobody.

MessAllOver · 12/01/2021 12:07

What exactly do people want parents to do here?

Keep their children at home, take unpaid leave and lose one salary and pay indefinitely for a nursery place they're not using? Is that it?

I'm unclear on what parents are supposed to do.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 12:07

@Same4Walls it doesn’t help but it’s frustrating for those of us affected and I hope people can understand that. It’s upsetting and frustrating and there’s nothing we can do.
By sending them in it is putting the workers at risk. I get not everything can close but this is a profession where you are in almost constant close contact, feeding, clothing, changing etc and we all know young children pick germs up easily and spread them. They don’t blow noses into tissues and cough into their hands etc.
