Sorry I’m not sure how to link this but it’s on BBC news.

In one of those moments where you realise that MN doesn't always reflect real life, I had a long chat with the nursery manager at DS's nursery yesterday where she tried to persuade me to wait until a little later in my pregnancy to stop sending him because she thought the disruption of him not going for up to seven weeks would be so disruptive for him. I don't think she has any ulterior motive - I made it clear I knew I'd have to pay full fees throughout and he doesn't get any funding yet. I thought she'd be delighted to hear that I would be keeping him home as threads like this had convinced me that the staff would think I was trying to kill them by still sending him...

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 11:31

Send I’ll ask again why are your staff on minimum wage when you have enough funds to keep going for so long with no fees?

You are so far from reality of work that I find it difficult to even engage with your posts. I know you’ve only done admin work so it’s hard to get but you should try. Are you a very cheap nursery in a low cost area? Surely some people gave jobs that are not admin

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:32

@CocoPark luckily I don’t need my job. I won’t be job hunting. I work 2 days a week because I enjoy my job. It’s certainly not for the money.

HazelWong · 12/01/2021 11:32

Never mind the people on minimum wage risking their lives for your admin job.

This is rather telling. Of course mothers of young children only do admin jobs.

MessAllOver · 12/01/2021 11:33

Children deserve consistency. If key worker children are going to remain in nursery, it needs to be in their usual settings. The only acceptable alternative is to furlough key workers for childcare reasons so children can be cared for by their parents. My DS will only be cared for at his usual childcare setting or by us at home...key workers deserve to have the same options.

Why has it suddenly become acceptable to neglect and treat very young children and babies very, very badly under the guise of "it's a pandemic"? Children are not parcels to play "pass the parcel" with.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:34

@MarshaBradyo it’s finance dear not admin but don’t worry I won’t judge you for it. We are fairly average for the area. It is hurting because you can’t afford to pay if you don’t send your child?

InterfectoremVulpes · 12/01/2021 11:34

Sendhelp30 started working in finance at a school around November time so is being a little disingenuous imo

CocoPark · 12/01/2021 11:34

@SendHelp30 LOL so the lazy one is actually you working 2 days a week. Why don't you volunteer in your spare time? We are in a pandemic, you know!!

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 11:34

You are being silly.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:35

@HazelWong my sister is a vet with a young child. She’s therefore not at home working.

If you’re working from home I would assume the majority are doing admin type jobs. You can’t be a nurse from home.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:35

@CocoPark because my 2 disabled children have appointments 3 days a week.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:36

@CocoPark hope that’s okay. Shall I let them know their disabilities offend you.

InterfectoremVulpes · 12/01/2021 11:38

And admin jobs aren't that important, are they? Its not as if all my students need to have their records up to date with their clinical training and competencies so they can continue to work. Silly women!

You should have a look at the thread on what people who wfh do. There's a lot of jobs out there that aren't admin or nursing.

My WFH friends include: academics, scientists, senior civil servants, marketing and advertising execs, software engineers, social workers, public health consultants, accountants and NHS managers

GoldenOmber · 12/01/2021 11:38

and each of you have jobs that are oh so important

Yeah I do, actually. It’s a keyworker role too, even by the stricter definitions up here in Scotland, even though it’s (gasp!) WFH and (hack, spit) on Microsoft Teams a lot (which is currently down again hence why I’m on Mumsnet, before you ask).

I am sure at this point you will say “oh no, I don’t mean you, I mean the non-KWs.” But I can appreciate that the non-KWs I know are not less busy than me. They do not have massively great flexibility in their day that allows them to cram all their working hours into a couple of hours after children are in bed. And most of them do require their job to pay their bills.

I can appreciate this without calling anyone lazy and selfish. I can also appreciate that my own ability to manage WFH for now with my small children, just about, due to my own circumstances does not make other people ‘lazy and selfish’ for having different circumstances.

I recommend developing the ability to see beyond the end of your own nose - it is a useful skill in life.

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 11:38

SendHelp30 I noticed you appear to have skipped completely over my post about how some employees can only work during set times during the day. What would you advise these 'lazy' and 'selfish' parents do with their children whilst they try and work from home. I'm sure they would be incredibly grateful for some advice or is their only option to give up their jobs?

I'll ask a third time... I'm very keen to know how you think these parents should be dealing with their babies and toddlers?

CocoPark · 12/01/2021 11:39

@SendHelp30 so what? According to you we've ALL got to do as much as we possibly can, and trying to fit round our other commitments is just lazy and selfish.
Not interested in knowing the details of your children's disabilities - I'm not the one who was offended by other parents.

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:40

@Same4Walls I haven’t seen 2 previous posts with a question from you. What parents in particular? Do they not usually manage to parent their own offspring?

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:41

@CocoPark yes. We all have to do what we can. It’s not normal times.
I have no intention of giving you any details of my children’s needs.

Same4Walls · 12/01/2021 11:42
@Same4Walls I haven’t seen 2 previous posts with a question from you. What parents in particular? Do they not usually manage to parent their own offspring?
Well I tagged you directly give you think its so easy to work from home with children. What is your suggestion for those who are working from home in roles which have set hours. How can these parents safely care for their children and keep their jobs? I'm sure they are all ears to find out how to manage both roles so easily...

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:43

@CocoPark so what 😂

So what if my 3 year old needs taking to the hospital 3 times a week? Lovely. Thank you. Don’t worry; his life expectancy is only around another 5 years so I’m sure that’ll make you happy knowing I’ll then have more free time.

GoldenOmber · 12/01/2021 11:43

‘Admin type jobs’, fucking LOL.

CocoPark · 12/01/2021 11:43

@SendHelp30 cool so presumably you'll be doing some volunteering in the evenings that you're not working or attending appointments. All in it together!

SendHelp30 · 12/01/2021 11:44

@Same4Walls if they can’t do their jobs with children do less hours, ask for furlough. Or hire a nanny. Marry a man who can help out. If you can’t survive without 2 full time wages, don’t have more kids. Lots of ideas.

CocoPark · 12/01/2021 11:44

@SendHelp30 and I will never be made to feel remotely guilty by someone so arrogant as to make the comments you did.
