Has anyone else seen this? I’m in support of the lockdown and don’t feel measures go far enough e.g. Too many people going into work, garden centres open etc. However, I find this dystopian. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/trio-charged-assaulting-police-called-23282961

I don't blame her for being so her up - if you listen to the actual video, her child has just been in hospital, and now the neighbours have maliciously reported her and sent an aggressive, bully of an officer around.

Porridgeoat · 09/01/2021 16:12

Shocking police over reaction

Why couldn't this have been a discussion instead

WhenPidgeonsCry · 09/01/2021 16:18

@Porridgeoat

Why couldn't this have been a discussion instead
I think it's unlikely that the police arrived and immediately barged into her home against her will. More probable is that it started as a discussion, until one side got aggressive and it all escalated.

Since the video doesn't show which side started the aggression and none of us have any way of knowing, this thread could be fun to just make up potential stories for what went on before filming began! Use your imaginations!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/01/2021 16:18

She was aggressive and it escalated into something it didn't need to be which always tends to happen when people argue with the police. What annoys me more is you're not supposed to allow people into your home, yet there's two police officers forcing their way into people's homes.

itsgettingweird · 09/01/2021 16:23

Whatever happened beforehand the woman is waving her finger at the officer and swearing at him.

Whether they were there on false claims or not if you are faced with someone being unduly hostile and you have a job to do it will escalate.

And I can't even work out what she meant by "I'm a woman if this land" 🤣

Sussexmidwife · 09/01/2021 16:36

An elderly relative was admitted to hospital yesterday. We were phoned to say they would be staying in for a few days, but no further contact from staff. Later in the day a family member got a text from the relative (the patient) saying that they had been told they have Covid.
We have had no contact from the hospital about this. No call from track and trace. The ward phone just rings out so we can’t check if this is true or what is going on.
Surely if they have tested positive we would have been told?

Beebityboo · 09/01/2021 16:40

I am Shock that some posters think she deserves prison time over this. WTAF. Sounds to me like she had had an absolute shocker of a day with a sick kid and was upset/anxious that a neighbour had reported her and was probably in complete shock that the police were there. In that mindset it is easy to see why she was upset and confrontational, what is the police officers excuse for being a heavy handed bell-end. Make absolutely no mistake, some police officers will be massively getting off on the new powers they have been given.

ktp100 · 09/01/2021 16:40

I think we're in 'making an example of' territory now.

I can see why they might be hoping a few reports of Police issues with walkers, gatherers, non-mask wearers etc might give people pause.

SOMETHING has got to be done.

Do we trust them to do anything sensible or affective?

Nope.

lockeddownandcrazy · 09/01/2021 16:45

@Classicbrunette

This is appalling. And police have been spotted sitting in cafes when it’s supposed to be take out only. They only know how to bully and intimidate. And flout the rules.
You will never be ringing for them when you need help then @Classicbrunette Or maybe you are the sort who thinks its fine to verbally abuse them, spit, threaten etc?
MarieInternette · 09/01/2021 16:47

That video was very hard to watch. The police were very heavy handed and were on attack mode. Disgraceful example of policing. That poor family. I hope those coppers lose their jobs over this. They’re not fit to be called policemen.

eurochick · 09/01/2021 16:52

Very heavy handed policing. The woman was swearing but if a policeman stepped uninvited over my threshold he would be told to fuck off. What the hell is our society becoming? That poor family.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/01/2021 16:58

What an over reaction from the police. Is it the young girl they tackle to the ground?
Absolutely heart breaking to hear a child screaming and crying and pleading with the people that are supposed to protect you, to stop hurting their family.
It's a suspected cobid breach, not a suspected murder ffs!

Yes it was. Even though she has epilepsy (which the police knew because the mum shouted it when they tackled her). Bloody disgrace.
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/01/2021 17:09

PoppiesinOctober thought so, and she shouted police stop and then a police officer? Shouts at her no you fucking stop before tackling her to the ground? What was she to stop, doubt she could have been doing much with a phone in her hand. Absolute disgrace.

And no to a pp who asked if someone would be phoning the police when they needed help. After first hand experience (on more than one occasion) of how fuvling useless they can be, I wouldn't phone them. It would need to be life or death.
I also have a couple of pretty good friends who are police, and even they say its not worth phoning them most of the time.
People seem to be under the impression that everyone who becomes a police officer does so because they want to help the public. Absolutely not the case, and far too many do the job because they enjoy the power trip.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/01/2021 17:10

As can be seen in that video. Police are trained to deescalate a situation where people are becoming aggressive, not escalate it and tackle innocent people who are doing nothing wrong, to the ground. That video is a fucking disgrace.

haloalkane · 09/01/2021 17:20

Think it's quite funny tbh. Can't be bothered to read the article, but why was it 'suspected' that they were breaking the rules? Did someone call the cops on them?

You think a video of a child screaming in fear is quit funny Confused. People are so weird sometimes.

Funny? A girl with epilepsy being tackled to the ground for nothing? It's being said on twitter by a family friend that she had another fit afterwards because of it. Hilarious.

Its the way the mum was begging to know if she was breathing and they told her to stay back and shut up that really got me they are clearly abusing the family at that point no let me check hang on or give us space to help her just a sick 18 year old on the floor not moving after being rugby tackled by a police officer for what? Filming them doing their job? If they had nothing to hide they wouldn't have cared

I've seen police deal with bad situations before being taunted by a crowd saying im filming you he responded I dont care im doing my job and he resolved things without resorting to violence

Obviously someone thought bringing their child home from hospital constitutes a covid breach
FreshFreesias · 09/01/2021 18:43

@BargainCunt Have you thought about applying to become a Corvid Marshall?

BexR · 09/01/2021 18:44

This is awful. There's a little boy there. Ultimately the police should be trained to know when a situation requires a physical reaction like that - it looks like a total overreaction here. They should also be used to dealing with hysterical, mouthy people like the mum.

Does that officer tip over every gobby person they deal with, or just when its a teenager. Bully.
