Police force entry into home over suspected Covid breach

Has anyone else seen this? I’m in support of the lockdown and don’t feel measures go far enough e.g. Too many people going into work, garden centres open etc. However, I find this dystopian. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/trio-charged-assaulting-police-called-23282961

I've seen the clip. The family could have said it's just family in here, feel free to check. Instead, the woman became extremely hostile, verbally aggressive and confrontational.

The police are entitled to investigate breaches.

Orlania · 09/01/2021 15:27

Police are doing a great job at undermining the foundation of our policing by consent model at the moment

Yes I was thinking this.

suggestionsplease1 · 09/01/2021 15:28

That was looking like a sketch out of Scot Squad before it escalated.

Way too heavy handed by police.

What disgusting neighbours they have.

NovemberNameChangeYeahBaby · 09/01/2021 15:33

Policing by consent is nonsense. The population of the UK, on the whole, does not want to be policed. Police are expected to always speak softly, never use force, never use any of their police powers and never ever make a mistake. According to every thread on mumsnet anyway. And at the same time people are shocked by how low compliance with the law is, and how much the police struggle to deal with covid and crime and everything else. This is one of the least robustly policed countries in the world with some of the most accountable officers in the world but that isn't enough.

idontknowaboutmortgages · 09/01/2021 15:35

@BargainCunt

The police do not arrest people without good reason. Stupid entitled woman.
That's not true

Of course the majority of people want the police. They want protection from the police. In order for this to happen we are all policed. It couldn't be any other way. Very few would want to get rid of the police. Policing is not about individual consent but the population as a whole.

'I am a woman of this land'. 😂😂😂
What kind of person uses that terminology, ffs? Sounds like she is a follower of Truthjuice or other conspiracy theory following organisation.

The fact her kids were pleading "stop it Mum" suggests they, at least, recognised she wasn't behaving appropriately.
If there was nothing to the claim that the police were investigating, I fail to see why the situation had to get out of control. Why did the man stand between the woman and the police officer? He the motioned as if he was going to shove the policeman who then took pre-emptive action to prevent him.

It all just sounds much worse than it appears because of the shouting and crying.

God, that was a good comeback - must have taken a while to think of.

PoppiesinOctober · 09/01/2021 15:45

@Heartlantern2

How dare you say it was the mums fault because the child was saying stop it!b Angry

She is saying it to her mum because she is her mum. That’s it. She doesn’t want her mum to get hurt.

She can’t say it to the police because the police don’t know her and she knows they won’t listen to her but she might have a chance with her mum.

You sound weird for not knowing that? Do you have children?

This.
WhenPidgeonsCry · 09/01/2021 15:50

That 18 year old women (child) must have been absolutely terrified- I bet her heart was jumping out from her chest- it’s clear to see from the video the officer barged in and started it when everyone was speaking but not shouting

Is it? On the Twitter video posted above or a different one? I've only watched the one above and there was nobody barging in (the police were already inside from the beginning of the clip).

The video starts with her being confrontational. Without seeing what happened before it's hard to say whether it's justified or not. In MOST cases this whole case would've amount to nothing if she'd been civil from the start so I'd say on balance, it's likely she brought it on herself. Some police officers are massive dicks looking for any excuse to wind people up and then arrest them, though, so it's possible this was one of those time.

Can't tell any of that from the video though.

So much agree. Anyone who thinks the police have an easy ride or are over zealous needs to spend a day being spat at, verbally abused etc for 10 hours

Bullshit.
NovemberNameChangeYeahBaby · 09/01/2021 16:03

Which part and why?

Bluesmartiesandpandapop · 09/01/2021 16:03

Oh I think the police have a horrible job and that the exposure to that trauma on a regular basis makes them over react in situations so also be over zealous sometimes. Nobody is perfect or infallible, the police officer in this appeared to escalate things and I have seen this IRL too. So have people I know who work with them a lot, and that includes people who used to be police themselves. That you have to try and calm the situation down because the officer(s) have switched into their fight or flight reaction and it's all going to go badly wrong if the situation isn't de-escalated .

WhenPidgeonsCry · 09/01/2021 16:05

@pleasefeedthecat

Full clip from YouTube here.

Yeah so the video begins when the confrontation has already started. Don't really see the point in speculating about what went before. Maybe the police are to blame, maybe the residents are.

I do think claiming the incident has any deeper meaning about the situation we currently face is a bit of a stretch. This kind of nonsense happens every day, it did before the pandemic and it will after.

Bluesmartiesandpandapop · 09/01/2021 16:06

Then there are the abusive bully types who are attracted to these kind of roles because they like the power. Very high numbers of domestic abusers in the police, and similar careers like the armed forces.

BargainCunt · 09/01/2021 16:08

I hope she spends some time in prison.

Classicbrunette · 09/01/2021 16:09

This is appalling. And police have been spotted sitting in cafes when it’s supposed to be take out only. They only know how to bully and intimidate. And flout the rules.

WhenPidgeonsCry · 09/01/2021 16:10

I hope they lock her up and throw away the key. Either that or bring back capital punishment.
PoppiesinOctober · 09/01/2021 16:10

Why's that? What was so appalling about her 'crime'?
