Mind you hearing the conservative candidate on LBC made me so irritated. I can’t even remember why, but not voting for him.

How many candidates are there? Should look into it

RedMarauder · 08/01/2021 15:12

@EmmanuelleMakro Shaun Bailey won't be any better and in fact, will probably be worse as a government lap dog.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 15:13

The numbers will turn now hopefully.

But it’s not really anyone’s fault. The new variant is hugely transmissible.

KaptainKaveman · 08/01/2021 15:13

@XVmama

Racism and Islamophobia is the reason Sadiq Khan is disliked.

He’s actually a very good London mayor - he has managed a very polarised potential tinderbox of a city extremely well through a lot of change, he lets experts and civil servants guide him, and he’s not in bed with a load of corrupt skeevies.

On which note, when might the previous incumbent refund us the £43m of our money he stole for our garden bridge?

You beat me to it XVmama.

Khan is not corrupt and venal, unlike his predecessor. He is, however, brown skinned which I suspect is the real reason for some of the vicious hate on this board.

I'm a Londoner born and bred and Khan is 100 times better than that shuffling privileged liar Johnson, who stole my money and yours from the Garden Bridge project and gave huge 'business' grants to women he was shagging while his wife underwent chemotherapy.

If you want someone to blame, blame the government. Who called for a much earlier lockdown? the mayor. Who has systematically defunded the NHS and schools for years? the government. Blame ought to be directed where it's due but the racists can't abide a brown skinned person in power.

lucywho123 · 08/01/2021 15:13

Thought so @whittystitties 😉

Always this 75% of school children are going into schools shite being spouted is actually embarrassing. They say it without any proof or evidence. At least provide facts if you’re going to keep going with that rhetoric hey

carcarbinks · 08/01/2021 15:13

I agree about the schools. I feel so angry that the government refused to let them close and threatened them with legal action. It was clear that something was going wrong.

the80sweregreat · 08/01/2021 15:15

There is a lot of chit chat about the vaccine , but I'm hearing that it's still stalling in places. I know it's a huge effort and won't be easy , but until it's been seen as working then things won't improve :(
Not for a while anyway.
I just feel for the NHS staff. They must despair ( like the paramedic on lbc just now)

thecatfromjapan · 08/01/2021 15:15

Oh, and the reason I'm pretty sure there's a social media action squad out there, gojng after Khan is precisely because the anti-Khan voices on this thread outweigh the neutral or pro-Khan voices.

In London - actual, real London - Khan is popular.

He's expected to romp back to the Mayoralty.

But you'd never guess that from reading this thread. 😁

Dawnlassie · 08/01/2021 15:16

If people are getting parking fines , that is ridiculous and should be waived

Why?

roarfeckingroarr · 08/01/2021 15:17

@billysboy

I got a parking ticket from two jolly wardens in EC1 yesterday , whilst I accept I shouldnt park for too long in a loading bay the place is deserted and are they really essential to keep London moving whilst on lockdown

This mayor is wrecking London with all of his unused cycle lanes etc

Concentrate on enforcing the current rules !

This is all about getting more money so that he can spend more on shitty schemes

Yup. Worst mayor ever.
itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 15:17

If anyone wants a perfect demonstration of the perfect storm of mixing and transmission of this virus look at IOW figures for last month.

It was tier 1 until Boxing Day.

It now has over 900/100k cases.

December 2-3 cases a day. T1 after lockdown.

Pre Xmas 20 odd cases a day and that was a rise - so out into Y3 Boxing Day.

28th December - over 300 cases reported in a single day. They've carried on with 200-300 a day since.

roarfeckingroarr · 08/01/2021 15:18

@blueangel19

This is like it is living in countries when everything is run by the state. If the stock of the vaccine were made in enough quantities for private clinics more people would have it. This will run much more quickly.
Exactly this. We need private sector efficiency
the80sweregreat · 08/01/2021 15:18

@Dawnlassie

Why?

I was referencing someone on here who received a fine in EC1. They were delivering essential goods. It just felt wrong to be penalizing people during a pandemic.
thecatfromjapan · 08/01/2021 15:20

Meanwhile, aside from those seizing on an opportunity to hate on our Mayor, it's a scandal that the government (yes, them - the ones with responsibility,) have let this happen.

It's a worrying time. The obvious worry being that care for things like accidents, other illnesses , along with Covid are now affected.

☹️

kirinm · 08/01/2021 15:20

@blueangel19

The worst mayor ever. Waste of space.
Please do tell me what he should have done given his actual inability to do much other than ask people to comply with whatever guidelines the government set.
roarfeckingroarr · 08/01/2021 15:21

@MajesticWhine

Sadiq Khan is an attention seeking nitwit without the intelligence required for high office. He calls for others to take action but does nothing himself. He has achieved very little with regards to main priorities for london like violent crime and transport.
👌👌
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/01/2021 15:21

@lucywho123

Does anyone have any links to schools where there are 75% of children in? From what I've heard from family and friends its more like 15-20% of children in

My niece is in a school year of 90 children. There are only 11 children in with parents that are classed as key workers

Nope because it's Mumsnet fakery. According to most of the posts on here, classes are at least 75% full. Not the case for me or anyone I know.
itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 15:21

My school has 25% in and that's capped.

My head is amazing. She basically told parents regardless of government guidelines she has a responsibility to keep staff and pupils and their families safe and cannot go above those numbers after doing a risk assessment.

loulouljh · 08/01/2021 15:21

@Unsure33

You need to read more carefully. Did I say I think we should be taking this less seriously? No I did not But the facts are we are. We are running on empty. We cannot work, home school, live with empty promises anymore. We cannot say ah we only have to do this until x and then y will happen because we know from experience that the goal posts change. You can rant and despair (and be insulting) about people but that is the reality. I see it every day all around me. We are all done. Rightly or wrongly. Done.

KaptainKaveman · 08/01/2021 15:23

Yes, privatising the prisons has worked wonders, hasn't it roarfeckingroarr? and the railways? and the probation service?

Anyway , speaking as an actual Londoner, I can confirm Khan is pretty popular. Smile

saraclara · 08/01/2021 15:24

I can' link you anything, but my daughter's partner's primary school has more than 50% of pupils in. I think 60% of his own class.
Sparrowfeeder · 08/01/2021 15:24

I’d take Khan over any tory! He is not perfect but is well-liked everywhere except on this thread.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 15:25

Not everywhere.
peak2021 · 08/01/2021 15:25

I don't think he has been as good a Mayor as say Andy Burnham in Manchester. Hovever, I agree with the major incident declaration which I hope gets more resources and help from central government.

roarfeckingroarr · 08/01/2021 15:25

@openallthetime London is a very diverse city. It's insulting and wrong to say those of us who think Khan has been a bloody useless mayor do so because of his race or religion. He combines being useless (from violent crime rising to so many bridges closed at once) with being attention seeking and self serving - no doubt he wants to mirror BoJo and become Labour leader --> prime minister.

It makes me so angry when people write off genuine criticism of a crap mayor as islamophobia.
