1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Great news. Had mine yesterday (health professional) and other than a sore arm I've had no effects whatsoever.

Hopeishere52 · 08/01/2021 10:46

Great news

psychomath · 08/01/2021 10:47

Don't know if it's still the case as the situation changes so fast, but a few days ago I read that the UK has given more doses than the entire rest of Europe put together. And they're aiming for 2,000,000 doses a week by the end of January - be amazing if they can pull that off!

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2021 10:47

About 1 m of the 2.2m extremely clinically vulnerable are already covered by their age group classification, so that graph overstates the numbers.

I feel better knowing the army are now heavily involved although my ex-army/family heavy history of military service DP was far more skeptical than I am about them making a difference.

I’d take any leadership over what we’ve had so far.

BlueBaubles12 · 08/01/2021 10:55

Good news indeed. Let’s get this ramped up!!

psychomath · 08/01/2021 10:56

FourTeaFallOut that map is really interesting - nearly 10% of the population of Liverpool in the shielding group Shock I wonder why it varies so much between areas?

Does anyone know why we seem to be so far ahead of the rest of Europe? They seem very slow in administering it so far

I'd be interested to know why too.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 10:57

🙌 Keep going!

psychomath · 08/01/2021 10:58

Cornettoninja I was sceptical at first, but having seen how much they've sped up over the last couple of weeks I think it could actually be an achievable goal now. Even if it's not quite two million it would still be fantastic progress.

I did read somewhere that France are so slow for a few reasons but a couple were that they are having an appt first to discuss their vaccine question and then a second appt to actually get the first dose, and that vaccine trust is low

I think it's a combination of the MHRA being set up to be flexible and responsive to applications, so approval was quicker. The EMA approval meeting for Pfizer was way after it was approved in the UK. Also we were able to procure vaccines independent of the EU. I'm an ardent remainer but it's one area where we were able to be more responsive than Europe.
blueangel19 · 08/01/2021 11:01

Amazing!!!! So happy to hear!!!

Hey moaners and anti gov. Feel to compare to other countries.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2021 11:01

Because it's really hard to hold down a career when you have a chronic illness and restraints on income influence where you live? Because some areas are the industrial hot spots from decades ago with concentrations of COPD, etc? Because poverty and hopelessness guide lifestyle choices with detrimental health impacts?

cathyandclare · 08/01/2021 11:02

Yes as Brunt0n said, France has a higher proportion of vaccine sceptics, so the consent procedure is more drawn out.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/01/2021 11:11

Remember at the start of the pandemic when we were making a huge cock up of everything, with no testing or tracing ability? And it was said that hard though it was to believe we had been rated one of the best countries in the world for pandemic preparedness and the problem is we had prepared for the wrong pandemic- all our plans had been for a flu pandemic?
A key part of that was that we had our vaccination plans figured out. So that preparation which has not been any use up until now because there was no vaccine has finally come into its own (as explained to me by db who has a management job in the NHS).

If that is the case then it’s going to take them forever! Confused

I’m looking forward to watching our numbers ramp up from here on in!

They are vaccinating quickly so as to be seen to be doing something, but unfortunately at the cost of giving the second dose at the correct time.

UK government policy is vaccinate with one dose for loads of people rather than 2 effective doses for less people.

Hence the article below

We’ll be at 2 million vaccinated very soon! Smile

The rest of Europe started vaccinations three weeks later - due to slower approval- , so that’s why the numbers are lower. But totally agree that we need to vaccinate as many vulnerable as we can, as fast as we can.

But properly, which is two doses. Not the rush job they are doing now
