Do you consider getting a takeaway risky?

Just wondered. Mentioned to friend on WhatsApp that we are treating ourselves to a takeaway from a local restaurant with dessert etc for DH’s birthday this weekend and she was shocked that we would risk it with the infection rate so high where we are.

I hadn’t considered that it could be spreading via takeaway food etc - surely they have to take precautions?

Oh, and no, they don't do contactless takeaways here. I live in the middle of nowhere, so takeaways all involve going into a shop or to a van to pick something up - nobody delivers.“

Sorry, that is unfortunate for you. Where we are, we phone, order, pay by phone and the takeaway delivers to the doorstep, ringing the bell as they go. If people didn’t use the service, they’d have gone under by now.

@Blue565

Threads like this make me glad that my family has had Covid and as a result don't feel anxiety about every little thing (wiping food down, takeaway, neighbours).

You can catch other awful things from a bad takeaway (Norovirus, Food poisoning) or get hit by a car / be in an accident when collecting it

We haven't had Covid and don't feel this level of anxiety. It's really not normal to be re-cooking cooked food and wiping everything.

I don't think i've ever been sick after eating a takeaway from food poisoning, norovirus, flu or bubonic plague.

Hang on isn't it less risky if you go and collect a takeway since. The food will be touched by takeway staffs then handed to yourselves when u collect. Whereas if you get it delivered its had a extra contact via delivery driver. And he will have knocked on numerous doors, handled cash may or may not be wearing mask when in the car. My local takeaway do contactless on pick up and have hand sanitizer to use on the way in and out. I feel safer this way than having it delivered.

We are stopping at the moment - not because the takeaway itself is risky but the environment - the shops - have no queueing system in place and people in our town are Rubbish at wearing masks and social distancing .
