I don't understand why it's coming back. This is after the government voted against a pay rise do it's not like it does anything to actually help.

It's meaningless unless it's backed up by action.

Boo for Boris I could get behind though ......

arthurdaly · 06/01/2021 14:55

No thanks! Was annoying last time. We're all fucking struggling but I don't want a clap for it.

Rosehip10 · 06/01/2021 14:59

Why on earth does the women want to start it again? Self promotion?

It's ridiculous and patronising. Rather like that stupid pin badge from the first lockdown, it's a pointless empty gesture.

Health workers want better pay and better conditions, and the whole of the UK wants a health system that actually works. Right now it's a shambles and I think we're all way past buying the line that we have a world-class health system. We don't. It's a mess and our treatment options and survival rates are shameful.

Wannabangbang · 06/01/2021 15:21

I think instead of clapping we should be encouraged to all donate what we can once a month on a Thurs online towards research and Nhs funding which is already under funded and underpaid!

Bookriddle · 06/01/2021 15:22

My wife cant wait for all the attention seeking twats outside her trust, clapping like a bunch of knobs....not

Orf1abc · 06/01/2021 15:25

I'm beginning to wonder who is behind the clapping thing. The woman that started it portrays herself as a mother and yoga teacher, completely astonished at how the campaign took off. In reality she's a marketing director. Why the facade?

cheninblanc · 06/01/2021 15:25

As I'll be coming in from work not long before that I'll won't be joining in. We don't need a clap. But.... My parents enjoy the chit chat afterwards, or they did in the better weather so it breaks there isolation

devildeepbluesea · 06/01/2021 15:26

@AmandaHoldensLips agree, it's horribly patronising. What grips my shit in particular is all the people who voted the Tories in somehow thinking this makes up for the effect of that.

Rosehip10 · 06/01/2021 15:27

Helps the government deflect from the shit show I guess.

Inclinedtochatter · 06/01/2021 15:31

Oh god no not again. The only thing we should be doing with our hands is washing them

wildraisins · 06/01/2021 15:33

Seems most people are fed up with the clapping now. Just wait and see if it actually happens on your street or not (seems unlikely tbh!)

trappedsincesundaymorn · 06/01/2021 15:34

Didn't do it first time around and won't be doing it again.

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2021 15:34

It’s run it’s course. I won’t be clapping again.

QueenPawPaws · 06/01/2021 15:35

My cat misses it SadGrin
He likes to go out at that time and came back thinking everyone was clapping for him

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/01/2021 15:35

I am too fucking tired to clap.

AmandaHoldensLips · 06/01/2021 15:35

@Rosehip10 - exactly. I have deep respect for our health workers and it's not their fault that the NHS is on its knees. It was never designed to look after this many people and is completely unsustainable in its current form.

The only time I thoroughly approved of the public clapping was when people started banging kitchen implements and the snivelling little shit who lives across the road smashed a load of dents into his dad's car with a frying pan. That was excellent.

RudbeckiaGoldstrum · 06/01/2021 15:37

Oh, no. It is dark and cold. What was cheerful in the sun will just be miserable in January.

No, no, no. For all the normal reasons and but mostly because it is January!

YesMeLady · 06/01/2021 15:39

No. Its meaningless. If people care about essential staff and health workers they should stay at home, and show them some respect by following the advice. A payrise, first in the queue for the vaccine, unlimited access to PPE and equipment might be more appreciated.

Carlislemumof4 · 06/01/2021 15:43

Please say all the first lockdown weirdness isn't going to come back again. It was such a relief to get back to, not normality exactly, but getting back to work and school giving people a sense of purpose again.

The competitive clapping, the non socially gathering of many different emergency workers outside the hospital, the bloody fireworks scaring my cat every Thursday (they haven't quite stopped from New Year yet mind), the painted pebbles everywhere, the pressure to display pictures in windows.... we did none of it. We won't this time either.

Jrobhatch29 · 06/01/2021 15:44

God no. No way! Ultimate cringe.

theThreeofWeevils · 06/01/2021 16:03

Plas can fuck right off.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 06/01/2021 16:07

I hate the whole "heros" schtick anyway - I never give to Help for Heroes just because I can't stick the sentimentality of it and I'd rather give to the poppy appeal instead. There are thousands of people quietly getting on with valuable work to keep the country going, help others etc etc who don't get acknowledged; on the other hand there are people who commonly get called hero by virtue of their occupation who really aren't. Just pay people properly for the job they do, give them the right equipment and protections, and forget the clapping.

Thatwentbadly · 06/01/2021 16:07

It would be much better if people followed the rules and do as little as possible in terms of mixing rather than seeing the guidelines as aims. And maybe write to their MP to suggest NHS a workers and teachers get a pay rise.

I wouldn’t be going out in the cold and rain, either dragging my young children or risk waking them up or others in the street.

Thatwentbadly · 06/01/2021 16:09

@Carlislemumof4 schools are not open for the majority of children.
