Another NHS worker here. Would much rather see the health service properly funded, lower banded staff getting paid more and people who clap showing their support for us by pledging to vote for a party that's actually likely to support that happening. Interestingly I ran some sessions for staff on the ward I work on after the first covid wave and virtually all of them didn't like the clapping. Some for the same reasons that I've said already, some found it embarrassing/ patronising, and some said they felt it added pressure for them to appear ok about caring for patients with covid when in reality they were understandably terrified. The "hero" narrative was actually quite damaging for a lot of them.
