It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:

If it included - in no particular order - supermarket workers, including those in all lines of the supply chain, the bus drivers and train drivers who get essential workers to work, the delivery drivers, the rubbish collection, the postal workers, those who keep our electricity, gas and water supplies, the police, the fire workers etc etc etc .....

💯

NO WAY, some people in my village used the last clapping stuff as a social event, all close together, and staying out for ages. and few local music types came out with a trumpet and a violin, quite horrible to listen to.. Then they were the main event next day on the community FB page, no mention of the NHS. just how wonderful to hear such great talented musicians !

JustJustWhy · 07/01/2021 06:15

No I'm fucking not.

Agree, it encourages people to gather, especially in those terrace house streets where houses are very close together.

Someone I know works in the NHS (part time and admin) boasts about using her badge to jump queues etc gushed about the Thursdsy clapping when neighbours would come together, share crisps(!) snacks, Prosecco (warm spring evenings...) Shock

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 07/01/2021 06:44

No and I hope no one round here does. Sorry but I'm exhausted enough without a tired and grumpy toddler being woke up every Thursday. I suspect I'm not the only one.

Uhhuhoyaye · 07/01/2021 08:02

I did not clap the first time round, because I dislike singling out the NHS or any one group of people for praise.
The supermarket workers and delivery drivers have been real heroes for me and I imagine their pay is very poor.

Daphnise · 07/01/2021 08:05

No.

Clarich007 · 07/01/2021 08:27

Who the bloody hell does she think she is to reinstate this anyway?
I did it last time and the first couple of weeks was lovely and quite touching, but as the weeks dragged on, it became a chore.
"Oh god is it Thursday, not again !!"
Anyway I don't think we are in the mindset any more. It's had it's day move on..

Clarich007 · 07/01/2021 08:31

It's had it's day i should have said

Ironfloor269 · 07/01/2021 09:33

Fuck no.

But if there's a Boo for Boris, we'll be joining in.

On a more serious note, every Thursday at 8pm, when the shallow, virtue signallers are clapping, I'll be sending an email to my Tory wankstain of an MP asking about how they are going to increase the wages of NHS staff and improve working conditions. Every Thursday. Without fail.

RingtheBells · 07/01/2021 09:45

I hope no one slips on any ice when they are all dancing about outside, clapping and saucepan banging

Ruddyusernames · 07/01/2021 09:47

Bloody hate the clap. Don't bother clapping if you've been breaking the rules .

Ruddyusernames · 07/01/2021 09:48

And I haven't by the way, just find it cringeworthy even though I did it last time

SvenandSven · 07/01/2021 09:49

No, didn't the first time either.
Although can see for some people it's a good morale booster and something they can actually do.

DenisetheMenace · 07/01/2021 09:49

“I hope no one slips on any ice when they are all dancing about outside, clapping and saucepan banging“

😁
A valid point though. Looked out this morning and decided it’ll be the treadmill today. Don’t want to end up in hospital with a broken leg atm (if I were lucky enough to actually get there).

MrsHugsxx · 07/01/2021 10:07

I did it last time, don't think I'll be doing it again unless the kids want to do it.

Sceptre86 · 07/01/2021 10:09

No my brother is a junior dr and he found it pointless and would have rather people lobbyed the government the first time around for adequate ppe. I am a keyworker too and would rather people were just respectful when they encounter us as to the risk we undertake to provide them with the services they need. Each to their own however.

SpreadeagledSquire · 07/01/2021 10:16

Echoing the thread here: no fucking way. I can’t believe they’re trying to bring this back?? Talk about not reading the room!!!!!!

JudgeRindersMinder · 07/01/2021 10:18

Absofuckinglutely not.

Felifox · 07/01/2021 10:19

Agree with supporting the key workers but I will do this by observing the rules, shopping as quickly as possible.

I'm fed up seeing pairs of people in the supermarket chatting. Does it take 2 of you to shop making other shoppers waiting for longer in freezing weather to get into shops? Keep us all safe by minimizing contact.

cooliebrown · 07/01/2021 10:22

first time around I thought the clapping was great for the children. The little ones in our circle were allowed to stay up late to go and bang on a saucepan. It made them feel like part of the effort.

As an NHS worker I was aware that the majority of the people I could hear clapping from my front door had voted for this shambles government, so that aspect - appreciating key frontline workers and the NHS - stuck in the craw somewhat.

lozjay · 07/01/2021 10:22

No wayyyy

VeganVeal · 07/01/2021 11:07

I cant wait, I've been practicing on my trombone all day, the street are in for a treat tonight

DressingGownofDoom · 07/01/2021 11:11

No. It's too cold. Didn't mind doing it when I was outside gardening anyway.
