It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

Didn’t bother last time, won’t bother this time. The dickhead up the road set off firework every week last time, hopefully he will have run out of them this time

I have HUGE respect for Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics etc but I won’t be clapping. We are being blamed like naughty children for this virus spreading, despite the fact that most of us have religiously stuck to the ever changing rules, many of us enduring hardships as a result of this. Now we are grounded and getting our bottoms smacked if we leave home. It’s not us vs covid rule breakers- the infection has spread through schools, workplaces, care homes, hospitals and in 3% of cases, through hospitality- all government sanctioned. So no, I won’t be clapping as it’s just propaganda.

Yes I have huge respect for many NHS workers. My daughter relies on them to stay alive and will do so for the rest of her life. My DH has also recently help of a critical nature from them. I still won’t be clapping.

Friendswithwhenifits · 06/01/2021 21:03

@Ninkanink every time I am in contact with them I am blown away by how kind, considerate and selfless they are. But as many NHS workers have said- it’s the establishment that wants us to clap, the NHS themselves would like more funding 😀

MyNameIsArthur · 06/01/2021 21:07

I'd quite like to see a clap for the scientists

maddy68 · 06/01/2021 21:08

No. It's daft and they should have adequate pay instead

Wobblywibblywoo · 06/01/2021 21:11

Nope

Velvian · 06/01/2021 21:13

Can we stand on the doorstep and cry instead? I have not been able to stop my eyes leaking today. I had a day off WFH, devoted myself to the DC's schooling and couldn't even finish all that was expected today, on a day I was with them.

I really don't know how we are going to manage. Work is so busy, public sector, so no possibilty of furlough.

My DM awaiting Covid test results and she has COPD. My uncle had to wait 6 hours for an ambulance yesterday. The poor hospital staff and paramedics. It is just awful.

iamadramallama · 06/01/2021 21:13

No. My way of showing respect to the heroes of the NHS is following the rules (despite my views on said rules) and by not voting Tory.

Dee1975 · 06/01/2021 21:21

We did it last time. I think it was a great way to showing community spirit and ‘we will get through this’. I found it quite emotional actually.
But I won’t be doing it this time round. It won’t have the same feel. Its ran its course.
Of course I am not saying I don’t appreciate the key workers who have worked hard all the way through. I do. But I’ll show my support in other ways.

Bookworming · 06/01/2021 21:23

No

MeepleMe · 06/01/2021 21:27

I won't be. Found it very patronising last time. I'm a GP and absolutely support everyone working in primary and secondary care now, as well as the army of carers. But clapping achieves nothing, when some people still behave as though the rules don't apply to them. Every day I speak to someone with a cough who seems genuinely bewildered when I ask for their Covid test result and whether they've been isolating. Extremely frustrating.

tonicwaterparty · 06/01/2021 21:28

No. Didn't clap last time. Won't be clapping this time. My partner supports the NHS by working in it and I support the NHS by never voting for the Tories.

Justbecause88 · 06/01/2021 21:54

It wasn’t suggested we clap the Army when they were called out on Christmas eve last minute, away over Christmas and Boxing Day in support of covid. So no, I won’t be clapping.

Nanny0gg · 06/01/2021 22:02

I don't understand how the woman who came up with the idea has 'told' us it's being reinstated.

Really? Under what authority?

Biker47 · 06/01/2021 22:04

No, load of virtual signalling self back patting shite.

Biker47 · 06/01/2021 22:04

Virtue*

Ellapaella · 06/01/2021 22:06

No. As a nurse I would prefer it if people showed their support by following the rules and doing what is required to limit the spread of infection.

evenBetter · 06/01/2021 22:11

Do we need another thread about this??
What benefit does clapping have? Just stay away from other people. That’s the best thing everyone can do. Petition for paying nhs nurses better.

Viviennemary · 06/01/2021 22:16

The threads about clapping are getting nearly as annoying as the clapping itself. Grin

Whoopsmahoot · 06/01/2021 23:05

No

CostaDelCovid · 06/01/2021 23:37

@Dowser

And when my son pops in with groceries from his 12 hour shift as a carer He’ll get a cup of coffee and a biscuit, like everyone else 👍
Which will exponentially increase your chances of getting Covid..... but as long as you get your coffee & biscuits Hmm
Stompythedinosaur · 06/01/2021 23:41

Am I fuck.

I'm a nurse working with people with people with covid, what I want in recognition is to be paid fairly for my work (have lost 20% of my pay in the last decade due to the pay freeze).

If I see any of the MPs who've opposed the fair pay campaign clapping I am going to blow a gasket.

Giraffey1 · 06/01/2021 23:43

Didn’t clap last time. Won’t be clapping this time,
