It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
DuchessofDerbyshire · 06/01/2021 16:54

It's not just nurses and medics who are 'key workers' throughout all of this.

I have family members in key roles as scientists who are working in pharma, not producing human vaccines, but working on the manufacturing of other vital medicines. They have had to be -physically- in the workplace, throughout, with some time allowed WFH when possible.

People here seem a little uninformed of w whole army or people out there, keeping the wheels on the trucks.

Lampzade · 06/01/2021 16:54

Nope

fromdownwest · 06/01/2021 16:57

How about we clap for all the poor souls who have lost their jobs or businesses.

This hero worshipping has to stop.

Yes their job is key and important, as much as I admire their work and contributions, I have equal empahty for people who have been financially decimated due to lock downs.

LawnFever · 06/01/2021 16:58

No, I think we’ve all gone past that now, it’s not that I don’t appreciate what all key workers are doing but I don’t think I’m in the mindset for clapping now and it’s not helping anyone working in any key role or the situation as a whole

Chimeraforce · 06/01/2021 16:58

Bloody pan bangers.

fromdownwest · 06/01/2021 16:59

Oh and the bl**dy fireworks.

Nothing says thank you more than a Firework

I understand your point. However I think people's good will starts to wear a bit thin when they see people in good, secure jobs being clapped and applauded when they are about to lose or have already lost jobs with no hope of Gerri f a other in the foreseeable future.

As I said, when this over, the people we are clapping will still have their jobs.

Llanfairpg · 06/01/2021 17:00

No I am not. I support the NHS in my actions all the time, such as face coverings and not swanning off to Dubai on the grounds of 'work', or miles to 'test my eyesight'.

sadcatdiary · 06/01/2021 17:02

@BamboozledandBefuddled

No. And if we have to put up with a bloke over the road trying to play a fucking trumpet again, things aren't going to be ending well for him.
Grin

Well said.
BangingOn · 06/01/2021 17:02

Fuck no. Nothing has made me happier to live rurally with no neighbours to peer pressure me into such nonsense.

Whammyyammy · 06/01/2021 17:04

Good lord no, not again.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/01/2021 17:04

No I agree. Most people feel incredibly worried and the thought of weekky clapping is just jarring. Far better for people to light a candle in respect for those who have died.

No it was fine as a one off last time but meant less and less every week it dragged on with politicians jumping on the bandwagon. I think a collective sigh of relief was heard when it stopped. I hope it's only being suggested as a one off this time.

squiglet111 · 06/01/2021 17:06

Nope.... NHS frontline workers needs a payrise...not a clap

PhilCornwall1 · 06/01/2021 17:06

If Johnson had his way, he'd have it written into the regulations by tomorrow afternoon and a ten grand fine for anybody that didn't do it.

HOkieCOkie · 06/01/2021 17:09

@ClaireP20 I vote conservative and I won’t be clapping.

LondonJax · 06/01/2021 17:10

No. Because everyone who is still going out to work is a hero. Those who are working from home, often in cramped areas and still making it happen are heroes. Those who are shielding 9 months in whilst some plank decides they're going to have a piss up or sneak in a coffee with a mate - something the shielding person would love to do but can't because of the plank - are heroes. Parents who are no trying to manage remote working for their kids are heroes.

So we're all heroes. And none of us want to be but 'the planks' of this world are making it so.

I'll just make sure I follow the rules so all these heroes can go back to being normal human beings. I think they'd thank me more for that than for a 'aren't I a good person because I stand and clap' moment.

Dongdingdong · 06/01/2021 17:11

We just get on with doing our job in difficult circumstances, and when we are all burnt out and stressed out and full of anxiety no one will care and we will just leave and get more sensible jobs.

@ExConstance Good luck with that - there aren’t any jobs.

Dongdingdong · 06/01/2021 17:13

Most people feel incredibly worried and the thought of weekky clapping is just jarring.

Jarring is the right word.

windmill26 · 06/01/2021 17:13

no,not this time

stonecoldhippo · 06/01/2021 17:14

No. A bit like “taking the knee” it was powerful and moving at first but not now. I would rather we lobbied for more money for key workers to show appreciation.

blueleonburger · 06/01/2021 17:15

Noooooo why are they bringing this back?!? Nobody wants this.

nonono1 · 06/01/2021 17:15

Mainly people who are lucky to still be in paid employment.
Which is my main issue with it.

Nobody denies that doctors and nurses are doingstirling work,
But, when all this is over, they will still have jobs a d a roof over their heads and food on the table.
Unlike thousands of others who's livelihoods have been completely ruined.
They are paid to care for people.
They are doing what they're meant to do.

Agree with all of this. Those of us losing everything will just be forgotten. We are Covid collateral.
