It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
TheSandman · 06/01/2021 16:04

It helped ‘bring people together’ in a way.

Bringing people together is the very thing we should be avoiding! Stay away from each other!

tisonlymeagain · 06/01/2021 16:08

Am I buggery.

likeamillpond · 06/01/2021 16:09

No.

I would clap for Children.
Children have put up with so much this last year.
A year is a long time in a child's life.

Mrsemcgregor · 06/01/2021 16:10

Ah man, last time I wasn’t a carer but I am now and have been for the past 4 months. I want my claps stamps feet Wink

TammyHullfigure · 06/01/2021 16:10

That woman just enjoyed her tea with Bojo. She's mis-judged the mood massively though. Quite an insipid personality - perhaps instead of clapping like a seal, she could be lobbying the Government for improved conditions, pay and better funding?

carcarbinks · 06/01/2021 16:10

Just when I thought things couldn't get any fucking worse.

Norwayreally · 06/01/2021 16:10

No, I didn’t do it the first time either.

Lexilooo · 06/01/2021 16:11

No it is pointless hypocritical bollocks.

It also turns into an excuse to socialise and spread the virus.

Let's stay in, and campaign for pay rises that are in line with the cost of living as a minimum for healthcare workers. Much more respectful.

ivykaty44 · 06/01/2021 16:13

I only went out as it was a bit of chat with neighbours

im not sure the spirit is there this time

Em777 · 06/01/2021 16:14

I didn’t clap last time and I won’t clap this time. It made me a pariah on the street last time but fuck it. It’s totally pointless, does nothing for the people on the frontline to help their pay or conditions and gives the false impression we are experiencing something short and sharp. The number of people on my street that combined this with regularly breaking all the rules was ridiculous.

ktp100 · 06/01/2021 16:14

It's an entirely empty gesture so no, I won't be.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 06/01/2021 16:16

Nope! Whatever you thought of it the first time round, its time has gone, & trying to drag it back as “a thing” will be flogging a dead horse

GandTisgoodforme · 06/01/2021 16:17

I'd rather stick a hot poker up my arse. I didn't do any clapping last time either.
I work for the NHS and I'm certainly not a hero, I chose to work for them, I chose a healthcare orientated career. (Not frontline COVID but considered a keyworker)
I personally find it cringey, patronising and an utter waste of time. We are in the middle of a complete shit storm, no amount of clapping is going to lift anyone's spirits right now.
I'd love to know what people think all this clapping achieving? Community spirit? Doubtful, when Mavis across the way is dobbing in her neighbour for looking after their own grandkids.

keepmeawayfromthesherry · 06/01/2021 16:18

People who do this clapping shit are thick virtue signalling idiots.

ohsuzannah · 06/01/2021 16:18

It's just embarrassing Confused.

CarrieCat · 06/01/2021 16:19

No and I didn't last time. I show my support at the polling station

PilatesPeach · 06/01/2021 16:20

No, it will be cold and dark and I am sick of the bloke in the road with the sax who did a mini concert every Thursday last time and will be inside with tv up and will privately appreciate all NHS and carers and all those others who deserve our thanks

WakingUp55643 · 06/01/2021 16:22

No. I'll admit I did join in at the start when this happened first time round, and it was nice to see my neighbours. And then I thought about it and how patronising it was. Those who the clapping is aimed at would far rather you never ever voted Tory again, as they are the ones who have left services on their knees. And I cannot bear to stand next to my DH who did vote Tory, clapping like a seal, and most annoyingly, nodding. How dare he? I'm sure the lady who organised this only has good intentions, but even she worked out it was just enraging those it was meant to help last time round, and asked that it should stop. Why is she bringing it back????!!!! Confused

HildegardeCrowe · 06/01/2021 16:23

Totally agree @GandTisgoodforme. Am NHS also and this nonsense makes me barf.

Eaumyword · 06/01/2021 16:26

@Ellisisland

Last time the clap happened, I timed it badly whereby I was coming back from a dog walk at the same time. So it looked like the whole street had turned out to clap for my Labrador returning from his walk, like a one dog parade as we walked along the road Grin
Love this! Go your Labrador! Did he strut, or was he confused?! But seriously, god no. This woman has seriously misread the room thinking this is a good idea. I did enjoy reading the sarcastic resounding NO on her Twitter page. She's coming across a bit like a David Icke style hippie leader. Except with no followers. I agree that it would be the opportunity some people would take to mix and that would be like petrol on a bonfire. Also, I didn't appreciate the fucking pan banging, car horn blowing and recorded singing posted on Facebook last time.
KitKat1985 · 06/01/2021 16:26

As an NHS worker please no. Although well meant, it's a bit patronising and not dealing with anything. I'd rather people just stuck to the rules and treated staff with a bit of respect (and God forbid gave us a pay rise).

I can't imagine any CEOs wanting a round of applause instead of their yearly bonuses somehow.

Cherryberrypies · 06/01/2021 16:26

No, and the comments to the tweet are not in favour of this. This is not something the majority of people want to do.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 06/01/2021 16:27

I clapped last time, started getting pissed off with one neighbour who messaged me telling me how poor a show it was or that so and so never makes an effort! So fucking what! None of your bloody business!

If she’s out again this year with her pots and pans and air of authority I’ll release the Kraken!

ChipsWithThat · 06/01/2021 16:28

No, I clapped last time because it was summer and really nice to wave to the neighbours.

This time, no, I've had covid and experienced the NHS. I'm really unwell and GP has been absolutely dire. Nothing there to clap for.

BlowDryRat · 06/01/2021 16:28

Nope. I did it last time but now I'm just fed up and I'm not following Boris as he 'leads the nation' in creating war-spirit propaganda photo ops.
