How do you think this will end now?

Sorry if there's been a post on here already, I can't see it.
So if we vaccinate all the groups he said by February.
What do you think will happen next?

Will there ever be a need for lockdowns again do you think?

Will summer be relatively normal...

Not anxious about it, but I do keep seeing people online like Neil Clark who keep saying this will be life forever. Honestly can't see that, nor understand it.

How did you come across him? I'd never heard of him, but I just looked him up, and he is clearly a conspiracy theorist who believes the whole pandemic is a scam to control us.

MrsGradyOldLady · 04/01/2021 22:43

I don't think it will end either. I would love to believe we'll eventually go back to normal but I just don't see how we can. Hospitality has been decimated along with independent retail. I haven't heard about any further support for small businesses? Unless that's to be announced? But without that how can we possibly ever go back to normal?

I'm sorry if this seems overly pessimistic but that's how I feel right now. I'm scared along with many others. I've seen client after client go bust and spent all day listening to people cry because they're in the process of losing everything they worked for. And selfishly I'm also worried that the house I've worked so hard for, bought my ex out of and then had to take on a lodger and 2 extra jobs in order to be where I am today, was all for nothing because it's going to be worth fuck all.

To clarify, you don't think it will end.... ever? Not for thousands of years as long as humanity exists?
KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 04/01/2021 22:46

Apocalypse, it's the only way

Toddlerteaplease · 04/01/2021 22:46

Of course it will end and life will get back to normal. We aren't still living with the effects of the 1919 pandemic are we.

ofboris · 04/01/2021 22:46

There were a lot of if's and presumptive words, which tells me they haven't got a clue and we'll be still doing this in 2022

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/01/2021 22:48

That meme just made me lol

FortunesFavour · 04/01/2021 22:51

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Beansprout30 · 04/01/2021 22:51

I’m trying to be optimistic but if vaccines really can be rolled out without any fuck ups (unlikely) then I do think things might start to look up towards the end of spring.

I think we need to be really careful opening up again, I understand why they encouraged the eat out to help out campaign but I believe this is where the second wave began, people thought it was safe to go out and mingle again and took their eye off the ball, and slowly rated started going up. Back last summer there were days when I barely heard Corona virus mentioned in the news. I believe we can get back to there and really hope we learn massive lessons while the vaccine is pumped out

independent98 · 04/01/2021 22:54

With the amount of c*ups I highly doubt that the vaccine programme schedule will go to plan.
The lockdown will be extended to Easter and then back to the tier system after that.
Peak will occur between 11th and 29th Jan if people adhere to the lockdown which is highly unlikely as many employers will still require people to be in the office.

Shitfuckoh · 04/01/2021 22:54

I'm wondering if I misheard it as I thought he said they'll ''look'' to reopen schools after Feb half term. Then was talking about how cases, hospital admins etc need to come down.
How they hope to have had the first 4 stages vaccinated by mid feb but that it will still be 2-3 weeks after that for the vaccine to take affect and 2-3 weeks after that for hospital admins to come down?

So based on that (like I said, if I heard right) are we to be looking at Easter for schools, rather than feb half term?

Annamaywong25 · 04/01/2021 22:54

I think most people are feeling pretty pessimistic atm. I felt a tad optimistic in mid December when hearing the vaccine was ready to be rolled out.....then literally 10 days later......Boom! THERE IS A NEW STRAIN! I just have a vision the future being of one step forward, two steps back, ad infinitum, and I'm usually an optimist.....just can't keep it up anymore. Sad

pinkpetal2 · 04/01/2021 22:55

@BlueBlancmange I have no idea I think someone kept retweeting him and he popped up.

I don't think the restrictions will end, no. The pandemic will but I don't think we'll ever go back to where we were. Already there has been a massive wealth transfer and as more businesses go under and the more people who lose their homes, the more wealth will be transferred to the already rich.

I'm sorry if you think this is unnecessarily doom mongering but OP asked for opinions and that's where I am with this. I accept after the day I've had I'm probably not in a good place. But there we are.

EeeehElsie · 04/01/2021 22:56

Life was very different 100 years ago. It's not comparable. The world is a lot smaller now.

I think that to some extent, restrictions will be a way of life now. Even with the vaccines there may be particularly 'bad' Covid seasons, like bad flu seasons, which will result in local/possibly national lockdowns or restrictions. We already know that Covid is endemic and that the pre-Covid world is a thing of the past. That's not to say it will always be this awful, but neither will there be a definitive end to it.

LastTrainEast · 04/01/2021 23:03

I know it looks bad, but it's going to get better. New strains tend to need just a tweak not a whole new vaccine and once enough people are immune this will be manageable.

We were unlucky getting a new more easily spread strain just before we really got the vaccine going. If it had waited another month we wouldn't be in another lock-down now.

But we will get the vaccine out there and it will all calm down.

MrsGradyOldLady · 04/01/2021 23:03

I agree. WHO have already told us there will be other viruses. And some will be worse. This is just what we do now isn't it?

I've got tickets for Rammstein which have already been postponed a year. I'm pushing 50. Maybe I'll leave them to my kids in my will...

Not achance of vaccinations happening on time. Vaccination will not solve the issues. It will be a political act that will stop some elderly dying and save the govt the embarrasment of presiding over more deaths but thats about it.
