Don't understand the once a day rule. Never have. A little afternoon walk keeps me sane.

Moan moan moan.

MajesticWhine · 04/01/2021 22:39

you can leave home for animal welfare reasons - therefore all the dog walks that are needed.

TableFlowerss · 04/01/2021 22:39

@Marpan

Garden centres are closed here.
I should think so! How the heck can they be open. They don’t generally sell ‘essential’ things. Hope the cafes aren’t open in then either!
2021vision · 04/01/2021 22:40

Today I was not allowed to go to my nearest garden centre as it is in tier 4 and I am in tier 3. Tomorrow however I can rock on over there (I won't be btw)! This and churches, bloody ridiculous!

TableFlowerss · 04/01/2021 22:40

@Jangle33

Honestly please tell me they are closing garden centres. How can they be open and schools closed? It’s not ok on any level
Exactly! It’s beyond belief if they are still open
MajesticWhine · 04/01/2021 22:40

oops sorry Fingfoxes I just saw your post. Um, I agree with you. Just using my dog as an excuse.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 04/01/2021 22:40

Our local garden centre is closed, big sign on the gate, they will let you shop by phone and will deliver in the local area for free.
Golf courses by us closed too.

AcornAutumn · 04/01/2021 22:43

Wait for the legislation OP

Fingfoxes · 04/01/2021 22:43

@MajesticWhine

oops sorry Fingfoxes I just saw your post. Um, I agree with you. Just using my dog as an excuse.
I wonder if my cat would take well to a leash situation? No dog here but a fat cat that could use the exercise - apparently the unrestricted exercise of an animal is more important than that of a human now.
m0therofdragons · 04/01/2021 22:43

Ours sells pet food so I assume it’ll stay open or I’ll need to find new dog food supplier.

It is not illegal to travel across tiers.
AllesAusLiebe · 04/01/2021 22:43

The evidence that going for a walk assists in spreading this virus?

Yep, thought so. It's filed somewhere along with the evidence that going to gyms / pubs etc also contributes significantly to the spread. . .

Honestly - go for as many walks as you like. I will still go for my morning run and afternoon walk. I may even start driving to a different location because I'm getting bored of the same route.

DdraigGoch · 04/01/2021 22:44

@notanothertakeaway

Jeez, the pandemic escalates, govt brings in ever tighter restrictions, and people on this thread are already encouraging OP to break the rules and take extra walks! No wonder the virus continues to spread. FFS
The pandemic is not spreading through people walking in the fresh air with their own household. Get a grip.
CheetasOnFajitas · 04/01/2021 22:45

Just walk to the garden centre? Or a shop?

JacobReesMogadishu · 04/01/2021 22:45

@AliceAbsolum

Once a day and can't drive to exercise. You shouldn't leave your village, town or part of the city.
It doesn’t say you can’t drive. It says stick to your local area but doesn’t define local. I take that as county. Certainly drive to the woods 4 miles up the road.
Skysblue · 04/01/2021 22:46

@boysinblue that’s awful! It is literally impossible to know what is against law and what is acceptable outdoor exercise. Like until today, zoos were open. Was it ok to go to a zoo? If not, why were they open? If yes it was ok, then how far can you travel to get to your nearest zoo? Etc.

I am sort of clear on what the guidance says - which is made up by Boris and his mates and constantly changing - but the current law and my legal rights is a fog to me.

PattyPan · 04/01/2021 22:46

Garden centres are on the list of businesses allowed to stay open. Golf courses must close. www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home

I have an allotment where I grow food, which is pretty essential. I need tools, compost and seeds to do that. This year I was also planning to get a greenhouse so I can increase the length of my harvests. I actually won't be going to a garden centre because I usually buy stuff online but I'm sure there are plenty of allotment holders who don't shop online and need to go to the garden centre.

Fingfoxes · 04/01/2021 22:47

In lockdown one there was misunderstanding that you couldn't drive for exercise. My local council closed its car parks in country areas etc. Then a few weeks into lockdown, it emerged that it was allowed to drive a short distance for exercise and the council reopened all the car parks in country areas.
I assume it is the same this time. A short drive for a long walk will be OK again.

ChocolateCherrybomb · 04/01/2021 22:48

Do what you want.

Nobody is watching.
Nobody is enforcing.

They never were and never will.

There are not enough "enforcers" from any authority or combination of agencies to catch more than a few transgressors.

Just stay away from people, wear a mask and wash your hands a lot but out of concern for your own/people you are near's protection, not because the government tells you to.

It's all been like TV Licencing threat-o-gram letters. Dire warnings of consequences and punishments that are not really there for the vast majority in order to secure voluntary compliance.
Here: www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home#when-you-can-leave-home
It says "this will be put in law". I assume from that it's legally enforceable, not guidance.

JacobReesMogadishu · 04/01/2021 22:49

@boysinblue

a friend of mine drove 18 miles to another local authority area, parked his car, and went hillwalking with the dogs. Got stopped by police when he returned to his car and fined £30 for covid breach, only people he saw were the police but can stroll around Tesco for 2 hours pretending he's mask exempt
He absolutely could have appealed that, he’s never broken the law doing that if in England.
TableFlowerss · 04/01/2021 22:49

@TillysMum02

its not even a proper lockdown if you can visit a garden centre and pop in home bargains on the way home!

ridiculous....why say only leave the house for essentials but poor retail staff have queues of shoppers buying mirrors, cushions and new wallpaper

Exactly - and you just know everyone will be piling in (including those moaning that schools should close because they aren’t safe) and the poor staff will have to just get in with it....

Why should they have to continue working, dealing with the public for non essential things?!!

Oh FFS get a grip PLLEEEAAASSSEEE!!!!

The whole point of all this is to stop people mixing. The OP won’t be doing that on 10 walks a day with her dogs will she?

And don’t come back to me with any snarky idiotic comments like passing people in the park or the risk of her collapsing from over dog walking and then needing an ambulance.

I hate posters like you more than the restrictions. Have a drink!

An MP in Scotland was arrested for culpable and reckless behaviour. I know many people who have been fined.
Godimabitch · 04/01/2021 22:51

The bloody garden centres need closing.

Papoy · 04/01/2021 22:52

Just because there is no one to police it, it doesn't mean people should break the rules....

Isnt that why we keep ending up square one over and over again !!!
