Don't understand the once a day rule. Never have. A little afternoon walk keeps me sane.

Moan moan moan.

Once a day and can't drive to exercise. You shouldn't leave your village, town or part of the city.

It does say once a day, but you can also meet one other person.

Who knows, they just make this stuff up as they go along.

So I can't go for 2 walks but I can go to a garden centre
thewinkingprawn · 04/01/2021 21:56

It is once a day and they have been quite clear that that must be in your local village, town or part of city this time. It’s in the rules on the govt website. We shall go for as many walks as we please though.

MrsMomoa · 04/01/2021 21:56

I will report you to 101! 😂

AriesTheRam · 04/01/2021 21:56

I'll be out as and when I like outside

goodwinter · 04/01/2021 21:57

@notanothertakeaway

Jeez, the pandemic escalates, govt brings in ever tighter restrictions, and people on this thread are already encouraging OP to break the rules and take extra walks! No wonder the virus continues to spread. FFS
Very unlikely that outdoor walks (taken alone or with household) will spread Covid, as long as you keep your distance from others: www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/04/15/how-to-stay-safe-running-walking-outside-amid-coronavirus-pandemic.html

Per the Govt website, you can only leave home for limited reasons. This does not include visiting a garden centre because that surely cannot be considered to be shopping for "basic necessities":

Leaving home
You must not leave, or be outside of your home except where necessary. You may leave the home to:

shop for basic necessities, for you or a vulnerable person

go to work, or provide voluntary or charitable services, if you cannot reasonably do so from home

exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person, this should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.

meet your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one

seek medical assistance or avoid injury, illness or risk of harm (including domestic abuse)

attend education or childcare - for those eligible

OddSox123 · 04/01/2021 21:59

@Jangle33

Honestly please tell me they are closing garden centres. How can they be open and schools closed? It’s not ok on any level
Agree exactly. Makes me so mad you can go buy 'essential' compost and bird seed but our kids are denied education and structure they need
PicsInRed · 04/01/2021 22:01

The guidance says "should not", not "cannot" or "must not" for exercise more than once a day.

Reading between the lines, multiple exercises per day aren't illegal. Just "we'd rather you didn't".

2020out · 04/01/2021 22:01

@calmandmeasured1 that's a fair point. However, garden centres are permitted to stay open! I wonder who will be going to them Confused

midgebabe · 04/01/2021 22:01

I read it as You can drive to exercise , if that enables you to access open countryside for example and keep more away from people
but it should be very local

alliejay81 · 04/01/2021 22:04

I'd always advise reading the legislation when it comes out. The gov.uk website has a tendency to make things that are actually only guidance sound like law. I'll follow all the legislation but will make my own decisions about guidance!!

TillysMum02 · 04/01/2021 22:04

its not even a proper lockdown if you can visit a garden centre and pop in home bargains on the way home!

ridiculous....why say only leave the house for essentials but poor retail staff have queues of shoppers buying mirrors, cushions and new wallpaper

Akrotiri1 · 04/01/2021 22:08

Well I have 3 young dogs that need walking twice a day, and 2 horses that also need exercise due to being stabled - so that's me banged up then!?

Yes, this. Every time new measures are announced, these boards are full of people looking for ways in which they don’t apply to them, or how to get round them. Every time. If we all did it properly it would have a much greater effect.

Where would you find that online?

Theredjellybean · 04/01/2021 22:08

I get rage about garden centres so badly.
Last lockdown my dsd had her weekly psychology sessions moved to online, despite the daft she could have sat in ventilated room wearing a mask two metres from the therapist.
One session the therapist was late for and apologised saying shehad been to the garden centre and choosing her new plants took longer than she thought.
My dsd had already said she was seriously struggling with online therapy...
So yes I feel entitled to rage about garden centres

Cherrysoup · 04/01/2021 22:10

No-one will care if you have 2 walks. I have to walk my dogs separately so I’ll be having 2 walks at the weekend, I doubt my neighbours will report me!

LobotheBotanist · 04/01/2021 22:11

What’s ageist about saying my local garden centre is rammed with 70+ people? It’s a fact, how can a fact be ageist?

It’s where lots the local elderly go for an outing

It surprises me every time I drive past!

Janedownourlane · 04/01/2021 22:14

I couldnt find anything about allotments this time, but Im assuming they come under daily exercise. It is local.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 22:17

It's the same balance they've been trying to strike for the last umpty ump months

Commerce vs. health.

Nothing new in it, nothing outrageous!

boysinblue · 04/01/2021 22:17

a friend of mine drove 18 miles to another local authority area, parked his car, and went hillwalking with the dogs. Got stopped by police when he returned to his car and fined £30 for covid breach, only people he saw were the police but can stroll around Tesco for 2 hours pretending he's mask exempt

HeddaGarbled · 04/01/2021 22:17

Gardening is safe, socially distanced exercise and very good for mental health. Garden centres are mostly outdoor.

PicsInRed · 04/01/2021 22:18

It's not "breaking the rules" if it isn't actually a rule for fuck's sake.

Honestly, it didn't take long for the curtain twitches and roolz squad to come out, did it? More than one walk will kill noone and, given covid associated morbidities, will probably contribute to saving the life of the walker.
