I’m just so fed up. It feels like Groundhog Day now. Worried about business, worried about ds’s schooling. Doing dry January too - thinking about scraping that tbh. How’s everyone else doing?

It's my 40th at the end of jan, I knew it wouldn't be 'normal' but I didn't want a lock down birthday ☹️ I'll just get shit faced at home

Icenii · 04/01/2021 20:25

Last time, my 8 year old went in to both me and DH and we were on calls, she said she would wait on the stairs. I found her there an hour later crying. I ended up ditching my job of 19 years so I could get the 3 month notice period to slack off. Now I have a new job and I'm on probation.

NoCureForLove · 04/01/2021 20:26

Really Xenia? I couldn't agree less. My dh works in the NHS and the situation is dire. Should his hospital put the worst cases outside to die to make room for the new cases?

mbosnz · 04/01/2021 20:27

I'm not fucking celebrating. I do think it's necessary, I want to know the full measures, but I am beyond frustrated at how stupid and cowardly this cluster of cunts government is.

Flapjak · 04/01/2021 20:27

Am finishing off the Baileys tonight!

Don't scrap Dry January. I'm doing that's as well. It's tough.
Thatsnotsnowy · 04/01/2021 20:27

@Levirandal
Speak to your DC’s school, my DS has SEN and struggles to work from home and they have said he can still go to school.

It’s still a worry though and my instinct is to keep him at home but he’ll miss out on so much. He’s year 7.

cactuscushion · 04/01/2021 20:27

@kowari

I feel terrible for parents who need their children in school but don't meet the criteria.
I feel terrible for children trapped in abusive homes but don't meet the criteria to go to school.
rooarsome · 04/01/2021 20:27

I can't stop crying. I have a newborn, a 5 and 7 year old. I have no family nearby, I'm just alone.

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 20:27

Dear friends, we wouldn't be in this mess if you had supported safe schools in the first place.

This is all due to the people who did not want health measures the first time around.

God help us all.

Stilltalkstotrees · 04/01/2021 20:28

@Levirandal

I’m really not sure I can cope with two special needs kids at home - one requires constantly supervision, a teen, my job and my dh working. I just about held it together last time but if we stand a chance I might be begging the school to take the kids even for a bit. I can’t homeschool either of the two with special needs as they struggle to work at home. I don’t know where the light at the end of the tunnel even is.

SN children are considered 'vulnerable' and will be able to go to school.

BringBackDoves · 04/01/2021 20:28

@blue25

Boris said he HOPES schools will start to open after February half term didn’t he? So at least half a term of this.
Yes he did. With some crap about “a fair wind” which is not going to happen given that they have the anti-Midas touch where everything turns to shit rather than gold
MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 20:28

So sad that dc are back to screen rather than friends every day

So disappointed about exams

Nursery open so can at least not deal with the hell of homeschool and noise

NoGoodPunsLeft · 04/01/2021 20:29

@Vebrithien

I can't do this any more. On maternity leave with a needy, premature DS, and my 4yo DD is going to be utterly devastated that her school is shut. I get no break from this shit show at all, no family locally to help out. I can't see a way out of this. I love my children, but I didn't choose to have them in house arrest. Got PND and PTSD from DS's birth, no computer at home for home schooling. God help us all.
That al sounds really shit for you Thanks

Hopefully you'll get a laptop or tablet for your DD 🤞🏻

“......I’ve no idea why they are doing this again”

Really? No idea?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 20:30

Stop it! It isn't down to schools or any other single issue.

It's a fucking virus.

It's global

It is not a UK thing.

Grab your grips. We're going to need them!!!!

@AgnesNaismith

Can’t wait for more fucking TWINKL comprehension on absolute nonsense.
Well this comment cheered me up anyway !
Incacat2 · 04/01/2021 20:30

As long as they don't use the bloody algorithm again, every year 11 and year 13 who have worked hard will be fine. It was the algorithm which messed everything up last year. Time to trust the professionals.

CarlottaValdez · 04/01/2021 20:30

Dear friends, we wouldn't be in this mess if you had supported safe schools in the first place.

Who are you addressing?

Newnamedillydally · 04/01/2021 20:31

Definitely not the time to do dry January. As stressed as I know I will be, I believe this is necessary. I have a friend currently on ventilation and I’m praying she will survive and recover. She’s only in her fifties.

Bathroom12345 · 04/01/2021 20:31

The teaching unions will be celebrating. Let’s hope they put as much effort into remote learning, last time my two nieces got very little support and help and the school were non communicative.

My SIL is despairing it will be the same as last time.

likeamillpond · 04/01/2021 20:31

This. I wish there were something I could do to help.

Us 4 Them and anyone else who thought opening schools without mitigiations was a good idea.

We need to get hold of the WHO guidelines and work to implement them in the next 6 weeks so we can open schools safely asap, which I think what every one wants

baldisbeautiful · 04/01/2021 20:32

Anyone else have second year uni students wanting to return to their private rentals? DD was planning on driving back this Friday for the term as car being mot'd Thursday. Can she still go? Her course is all online for the foreseeable but she wants to return to her house? Thx

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 20:32
