I'm assuming the same rules and exceptions as last time, does anyone know?

She’s literally on TV now - but the guidance will be published soon.

Orf1abc · 04/01/2021 14:19

Good to see a leader taking decisive action. The Guardian states the rules will mirror those imposed in March, I'm sure there will be more information online shortly.

Schools closed for full of Jan.
Get school staff vaccinated as a priority and I say that as an NHS front line worker who had their 2nd vaccine cancelled.

Bagelsandbrie · 04/01/2021 14:20

Boris needs to be following suit.

NellyJames · 04/01/2021 14:20

I’ve just started a thread as I’m so impressed by her clarity. Makes me ashamed to be English and be reliant on BJ to make decisions for me.

RememberSelfCompassion · 04/01/2021 14:23

Schools too? I don't think vaccinating teachers solves everythign as they can still spread it can't they? It might make it look like there's less cases in school if they're all asymptomatic, but still spreading to families.

Agree - ashamed to be English.

Sorry I didn't realise she was live.

Schools closed for the rest of the month at least (exceptions obviously)

You can't spread it if you don't have it.
DumplingsAndStew · 04/01/2021 14:33

As far as I was aware (could be new information otherwise), the vaccination prevents symptoms, rather than infection.

Presume England will follow. Because that dickwipe Johnson hasn't got the leadership qualities to do this until someone else does.

User56770987 · 04/01/2021 14:34

@RememberSelfCompassion
It's not a perfect solution but would cut down spread. I want the schools open for the sake of my children's future and to let me do my job without worrying about my children.

BigGreen · 04/01/2021 14:37

Any news on childminders? Am in England but curious whether the same rules will apply here.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 04/01/2021 14:37

Fully expected it and I feel better about it than last March, there is light at the end of the tunnel this time with the vaccine. Schools closing is going to be bloody hard for people though.

Baycob · 04/01/2021 14:37

When will this end ? Surely it can't go on forever.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/01/2021 14:38

Sturgeon was banging on in the summer about elimination and how much Scotland was doing compared to England.

Back in the real world, viruses gotta virus...

sirfredfredgeorge · 04/01/2021 14:40

Good to see churches are still completely covid secure until Friday, thank the lord!

WildOrchids67 · 04/01/2021 14:41

I'm actually sitting here crying. I just want things to go back to normal. I'm sick of WFH, not seeing my friends and feeling so lonely. Right now I don't want to hear about how it'll stop the spread, keep people safe etc. I want my life back.

RememberSelfCompassion · 04/01/2021 14:43

I didnt think the vaccinations cut down spread? As you can still pass it on... cynically I think they want teachers to be asymptomatic so they go into school even with covid and teach.

I do def want everyone vaccinated though. Id be there in a shot!

lyralalala · 04/01/2021 14:43

Very concise outline of the changes from her. I'm not an SNP fan overall, but her clarity is admirable.

Schools and nurseries closed. The planned staggered return of colleges and unis under review.

People legally obliged to stay home except for essential purposes - caring responsibilities, essential shopping, medical appointments, exercise (which is unlimited, but she's said to stya close to home) and being part of a support bubble.

People who are able to work from home legally obliged to do so. business to consider if people who can't work from home are doing a job that really needs done (I think that was a push to businesses before she brings back the old rule of working at work only being allowed if the work was essential).

I like the fact that they've said that people who were on the shielding list will get another letter and if their job cannot be done from home then employers must consider the letter as a fit note - that gives people who are vulnerable that protection that's been missing since shielding ended.

Everyone over 50 and all vulnerable people expected to receive at least the first dose of vaccine by May. Also looking into getting school and nursery staff who are not part of the other priority groups vaccinated as a priority.

I doubt the guidance will be half as clear here.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 14:43

Looks like workplaces are still open if you can’t work from home so not as tough as last time. Construction etc was all closed last time this time is open . So now I need to work out of the house and be at home homeschooling . Guess I will be unpaid the rest of the month ,

DumplingsAndStew · 04/01/2021 14:44

If you take out the personal emotive language 🙄 I'm pretty sure most country leaders were speaking positively in the summer and Scotland were doing amazingly well.

Its not that NS has personally licked every Scottish resident.

Oh wow Im in England and CV I wonder if the time scale for vaccines is the same.

Lissy23 · 04/01/2021 14:46

Are they keeping support/childcare bubbles?

Lemons1571 · 04/01/2021 14:46

Sounds like support bubbles will continue. What about childcare bubbles? They really need legal enforcement on employees to not penalise working parents.
