Just on BBC news the mayor of Liverpool wants a nationwide lock down again! Even in areas with low transmission to help areas like Liverpool who don't appear to help themselves anyway.
What financial planet do these people live on.

Jessi I agree with all but note Liverpool hospital covid cases are currently 1/3 what it was in October so we do have capacity currently - tho I expect that will change

Also do note as like most areas, many of the surrounding tier 4 areas have lower covid cases than Liverpool right now eg west lancs is 253, Manchester 204 and Wigan 220 compared to liverpool 350 and Wirral 300

Liverpool will pay the price for the city being kept in tier 2 before Christmas and will pay the price for being kept in tier 3 now when the rest of north west is in tier 4.

Liverpool city region had some of the lowest rates in the country for weeks post lockdown. In fact the only places lower were very rural places, they were certainly the lowest big urban city area. That was partly due to the residents very much helping themselves with the mass testing. Is the whole of the south east currently ‘not helping themselves’ OP??

If you dont agree with him you understand neither public health nor economics.

Are you in the cabinet, OP?

Doesn’t this make the case for not shutting hospitality so they could then operate properly as there wouldn’t be the rush to get as many people in before being shut again

Chicken and egg, if they just operated properly and within the rules in the first place, would they need to be shut again

But in my area the restaurants and pubs for the few weeks that they were open last year were operating within the rules and figures were going down.
Now we are in tier 4 with rising figures yet the pubs and restaurants haven’t been open and lots of people are just going to other people’s houses instead.

Whilst I'm not advocating rule breaking, we need to be realistic about where most transmission is happening, and it's not from going to a pub in a different area or from a few people failing to wear a mask when not exempt. Most transmission happens in homes, schools, workplaces and healthcare settings - all where people are acting within the law and following guidance.

This government detracts focus on itself by deflecting blame elsewhere. We need to stop falling for it, and they need to make a realistic long term plan.

@torquewench

I was cycling along Hope Street over Christmas when I saw a police car pull over a car and question the driver as to why his car was registered to an address out of the area (couldnt hear where). Theres also been lots of articles in the local rag about taxi drivers licensed in higher tier areas such as Wolverhampton and Manchester being stopped in Liverpool and having their licenses suspended. But that's "Liverpool" not helping itself, I suppose Hmm
Not this again. My car isn't registered to the area I live in! We don't live in Germany, where you have to change your registration plate if you move house.

The police of course do know where a taxi is registered because they are licensed by the local council. That is different.

I’ll don my hard hat and give one example of where “Liverpool did not help itself”

Restaurants like San Carlo allowing groups of girls in for a meal together who clearly weren’t from the same household or support bubble.

Places like Dash allowing groups in, again as above, obviously not from the same household/bubble, for drinks only, as long as they kept an empty plate in front of them.

Seen it with my own eyes.

San Carlo were reported; the police arrived and diners were fined. There will always be rule breakers in every part of the country but it seems it's only Liverpool not helping themselves..... FGS we are all in this together!

Totally agree. Its all the legal places and legal bubbles that allow transmission not a bunch o 20 year old stduents who live away from older family members

Not just Liverpool Mayor op. Now the Labour Leader and we know Boris copies whatever he says even though he initially attacks him for it first.

Daisy829 · 03/01/2021 20:13

@Beautifulbonnie that sounds like a dream doesn’t it! We’ve got the vaccine so surely if we did lockdown & vaccinate (at least the vulnerable, nhs, teachers) we would be able open things up again slowly. Boris needs to grow some balls. I might try to get that trending #borisneedballs
