I know he's like teflon, but surely his position as education secretary is becoming untenable?

Not a lot of the hardcore Tory voters are keen on him either, from what I’ve heard via my DF and his golf buddies. They think Gove was the gold standard, and poor Gav just doesn’t make the grade.

nosswith · 02/01/2021 14:12

Several months ago I argued that the Queen should intervene and sack the Prime Minister using the Royal Prerogative.

Nothing has made me change that view.

AaronPurr · 02/01/2021 14:12

@Beebityboo

I hope they make Williamson do a grovelling press conference. Really would be a great start to the new year.
Oh that would be amazing. 🤩🤩
nosswith · 02/01/2021 14:12

Gavin Williamson would not do a press conference, he would send out Nick Gibb. He has form for hiding.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 02/01/2021 14:13

@mrjuno

I am completely opposed to this.

I was a teacher pre-DC, and if any school would like to remain open and employ me to crack on with the job, I'd be very glad to hear from them. I would appreciate the salary, too, as my job disappeared in March when lockdown was announced.

You do know that schools won’t just ring you up and offer you a job, don’t you? Grin

Have you applied for any? There are loads of vacancies here-I’m sure you’d be welcomed with open arms.

NaiceAm · 02/01/2021 14:15

Shutting down the debate like that will harm our children’s futures

Guess it depends on how you feel about crossing picket lines.
noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 14:16

There isn't a picket line because it's not a strike.

CallmeAngelina · 02/01/2021 14:17

I'm curious as to why you're no longer a teacher, @mrjuno

What was it about our profession that made you want to quit, and in what ways do you think will have improved since you left (with particular reference to the last 10 months)?

singsingbluesilver · 02/01/2021 14:17

This is significant and will have far more of an impact than the NEU calling for a section 44 action. It takes a monumental cock up to get the HT unions riled up - the government will not be able to ignore this one.

Who is shutting down what debate?
noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 14:17

Shutting down the debate about making schools safer has landed us in this position.

Rampant covid, overwhelmed hospitals.

bizmum1 · 02/01/2021 14:18

Schools need to stay open

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 14:20

@Witchend the vaccine isn't even approves for children so that is pure nonsense
IM all for schools closing for a couple weeks but have yr 11 and something needs to be adjusted for exams as unfair for them to be off loads more and sit exams which haven't been altered that much

Hercwasonasnowball · 02/01/2021 14:21

@bizmum1

At the expense of the health of its staff and students?

PaperScissorsRock · 02/01/2021 14:21

Fully support this.

Itisasecret · 02/01/2021 14:21

@bizmum1

Schools need to stay open
Umm they aren’t. Saying it over and over didn’t work. Schools need to be safe so they can stay open.
CallmeAngelina · 02/01/2021 14:22

@bizmum1

Schools need to stay open
Is that the sum of your contribution? Care to back up your opinion?

(Maybe try reading this and some of the other similar threads first).

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 14:23

All this could of been avoided with a strict on month lockdown from the 30th to try and get numbers down

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 14:24

Also I will say I have been so impressed with ds1 college and da2 school with constant updates throughout the holidays , seems like ht have had no breaks what so ever

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 14:25

Well they truly shat on HT didn't they, after a stressful term, to drop the testing bombshell on them.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 14:27

I also think goverment should concede on facemasks although I think people have a bit too much faith in them and schools should be allowed to send home older pupils who mess around with them
And younger ones they need to be very conscious of them touching them and accept that for some children it may be to overwhelming

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/01/2021 14:35

Full support from me.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 14:36

Wow. The government have responded by sending a link to political journalists saying that schools are safe.

The link is the statement from the CMO in August

They really are unconscionable bellends aren't they?

RigaBalsam · 02/01/2021 14:41

Link says not available. Has it been deleted?
