@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Starry night: that table has repeatedly been in the press.

Supermarket is the highest because that’s the thing people could remember or more importantly admit to.

Add the education sectors together as they are all education.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

What do you mean? Who’s been in the press repeatedly?

cardibach · 03/01/2021 12:46

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'Because the government explicitly banned rotas.'

Oh thankyou for that. It's nice to get answers when enquiring. Why though, what was the rationale?

I know it’s moved on a bit now but for @GetOffYourHighHorse and others wondering why no blended learning/rotas - this was the original plan last summer before term started in September. It’s a sensible, proportionate response I think (and hope you agree). Pressure groups of (principally) parents, such as U4T got to the government and this was quietly ignored and never implemented. That’s why we are where we are. Implement this and I have no problems.

I want my children’s education to be prioritised.

As I see it, the way to achieve that is to make the school environment as safe as possible, and at least AS safe as shops and offices (I know some shops and offices aren’t following rules there will always be people breaking rules but schools have almost no rules to break).

My daughter does not feel safe in school. This is impacting her mental health and education, as well as the constant being sent home.

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2021 14:54

I know noble has made many thread highlighting the things like refusal to allow rotas, masks etc. And I think it's great people like get off are willing to listen and ask questions.

But what I dont understand why when some parents have no knowledge of all this they still bash teachers.

Government have forced the unions hands by refusing to be reasonable and work out an actual plan like the one they are trying to now implement. Yet are managing somehow to convince some people that's it is purely because teachers want to refuse teaching.

It's scary how much our country is becoming more about propaganda than the greater good of the nation working together.

I couldn't agree more. Rationality and critical thinking seem to have gone out of the window.

Liverpool parents will not be fined if they don't send their children back. Reported by Sky News:

In Liverpool, parents are being advised that schools in the city scheduled to reopen this coming week will do so, unless they are notified.

In a joint statement, cabinet member for education, Cllr Barbara Murray, and director of children and young people services Steve Reddy said: "We recognise there is a balance between controlling the virus and the damage to child wellbeing, mental health and the impact of even more lost learning.

"With less than 24 hours to go, we are not asking schools and parents to change their plans.

"As a Tier 3 area which has a lower infection rate than others, the schools that are scheduled to reopen this week should do so, including primary and special schools as well as secondary schools for vulnerable and key worker children.

"No parent will be fined if they keep their child away tomorrow for safety reasons.

"Where headteachers alongside their staff decide that they cannot safely reopen, they will have our full support. The council will continue work with and support schools if this happens."

But today, council leaders in the city called for a national lockdown, warning the UK faces "catastrophe" over rising hospitalisations.

Southampton not issuing fines too.

Warwickshire have just published something fairly vague, including this paragraph “ Conscious that there is live debate around the return to schooling, Head Teachers and their teams will of course continue to be guided by their risk assessments and will maintain communications with their school community.”

So sitting on the fence it would seem.

That's surely straight from yes minister Grin
BangingOn · 03/01/2021 18:20

That’s exactly what sprang to mind! They seem to be leaving it to the head teachers to risk assess, but not sure how supportive they are behind the scenes.

North Essex seem to be moving to online learning whilst the council seek “urgent clarity”.

Flaxmeadow is wrong. There is quite a lot of support for closing schools. This is just one poll but I have seen a few others.

I ahve been a teacher for almost 30 years and been out on strike once. It is such an inaccurate portrayal of teachers.

25 years teaching and I haven't had a strike day at all. I do remember the whole work to rule thing for a while not longer after I started.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/01/2021 21:11

25 years teaching and been on strike 5 times.

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2021 18:24
