As MNHQ are looking in to the other poster on this topic I am starting a new thread for this discussion. They will be able to see I’m a long term poster so no reason to delete.

OP posts:

Vaccinate teachers and TAs who are completely unprotected at work.

If not - then compulsory masks for all in schools (including primary) like they do in most other countries. And please no suggestions that it's child abuse...

Noellodee · 02/01/2021 00:04

Maybe Mumsnet needs its own equivalent of the warrant canary?

For those who haven't come across it, a warrant canary thread where they post each day that they haven't had any government interference. Apparently, some kinds of gag orders can force you to not post something on a topic, but they can't force you to post something. So when the posts stop, you know there has been government interference.

Just enjoying a little tinfoil hattery, here Grin

I sincerely hope she realises she will never, be credible ever again if she has lied.

Or massively over exaggerated. She won't be an activist any more that's for sure.

compulsory masks dont cut it. It is not the answer on its own. Please dont make it out like it is. You need everything else too. SD, small numbers and ventilation. Having a mask is not a panacea.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 02/01/2021 00:12

We will have the govt saying at the height of everyone dropping like flies
Everyone back wearing masks. You will be fine Confused

Fortherosesjoni70 · 02/01/2021 00:13

It is a start but that is is.

Ozzie9523 · 02/01/2021 00:24

@Sickofthiscrapp

I’m near London in tier 4 but schools are open. Just received an email from my child’s school that they are open on Monday. I’m scared to send her in. I’m CEV. If I keep her home, will they fine me??
Just say she has symptoms and repeat as necessary? I do think all schools will be closed by mid/end Jan.

@AldiAisleofCrap thanks for sharing the text of the article.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 00:32

Weirdly someone said great post honey badger but unless I've developed dementia I'm sure this is my first post on here.

Imo it seems that the variant has, as the bmj suggests, has made children as susceptible to being infected as adults and as able to accumulate high viral loads. That means sticking them in a room with 30 others with no ppe and poor ventilation and no social distancing literally is now the same as 30 adults being rammed into a small pub with no sd, ppe or ventilation for 6 hours. They can no longer do that without massive infection spread.

I suspect they gambled on using children as a kind of fire wall letting the virus accumulate there as a sort of human shield (albeit porous and slowing things down rather than completely blocking spread) until the vaccination programme could really get underway.

They didn't bank on the variant (thought god knows why and they must have been warned of the likelihood of a mutation arising that made it better at infecting young people and that that mutation would be so perfect for schools that it would rapidly duplicate and be selected for).

Is there a name or concept for what I'm calling a fire wall or shield in disease control? Would it work to let it concentrate in one part of the population to protect more vulnerable sections?

This is not my field obviously and just pondering on something that I've been wondering about since surges of cases in schools recently.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 00:35

And thanks for the link via yahoo news whoever did that. Finally got to read the article.

I think this makes sense. I do agree that there is no way that they could put children back into school. So why did they say they were? Was it a political gamble in the hope that parents would rebel if it were leaked that schools were not safe now? I just dont get the strategy of the UK gov. NS for Scotland was clear. She said until they knew the effect on children they were keeping the schools closed until the 18th. That was before the holidays.
AldiAisleofCrap · 02/01/2021 00:41

@WhatTiggersDoBest hopefully my post won’t be deleted.

saiditbetterthanme · 02/01/2021 00:43

Does anyone know if nurseries are staying open?

ConfusedcomMum · 02/01/2021 01:02

As far as I know private nurseries will stay open. Schools that are closed will have the option of keeping their reception classes and (if they have a) nursery open (early years).

Don't know but it just further and further depletes any trust or confidence.

I've never striked but I'd be sympathetic to a strike demanding they share the science and bloody follow it instead of playing all these crazy spin games.

Lumene · 02/01/2021 01:06

Gavin Williamson is an unusually incompetent Minister, even got this cabinet.

I was watching him speaking and OMG he is just such a liar. His whole body language was so unconvincing. He had no conviction in what he was saying. He is transparent.
Elephant4 · 02/01/2021 01:16

Is GW a lier?

I get the impression he just knows nothing at all and so bluffs his way out of having to answer anything.

He speaks pure waffle.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 01:17

I think that's why he reads written statements or is supposed to. He's not trusted off script. This last shit show should see him shoved back in the cupboard for a while

Totally! He is an idiot. Your right. A liar is clever!

Just heard the radio 5 interview its so worrying isn't it

Agoodbriskwalk · 02/01/2021 01:49

I’m finding the deletions very concerning.

Combined with MN releasing a statement from the DfE the other day it just makes me wonder how much we are being watched and censored here.

SpikySara · 02/01/2021 02:05

Thanks for highlighting this issue. It’s helpful information when it comes to deciding how best to keep my DC safe. I’m extremely concerned that the Telegraph has removed the quoted article.
