Published in the times too but behind a paywall.

I don’t understand why people are still denying there’s a problem :/

That states tier failure.

Elephant4 · 31/12/2020 19:06

We’re tired and worn out from lies, constant lies. There’s no faith anymore. No trust in anyone.

That’s what happens when you are governed by corrupt, manipulative deceivers.

hepatocyte · 31/12/2020 19:11

Elephant4 I know 😔 my heart goes out to all the healthcare workers who are spread so thin they can no longer care safely for patients. Horrible horrible situation.

I really don’t understand the media blackout on this

I was listening to LBC radio this afternoon and there was an ITU consultant called Jack who called in. I was choked listening to him.

Also makes me very sad for those going into A&E etc with non covid emergencies who may die but this time last year would have survived and lived another 20 + healthy years.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 31/12/2020 19:13

There was a piece on the BBC earlier, but it was all “doctors say”.

Bluebird2021 · 31/12/2020 19:15

frustration aimed at the non mask wearers

quite rightly so

Lifeispassingby · 31/12/2020 19:15

I am sad and I agree with you, but wait for this thread dot be bombarded by people claiming it’s all lies, blaming the previous NHS crisis or saying it doesn’t affect them

Yes. I don’t understand why people don’t get that this is the knock on effect of “let’s just get on with it”.
colouringindoors · 31/12/2020 19:16

I feel so, so sorry for all our wonderful doctors and nurses Sad

This lingers on my mind as well. The email makes sobering reading, and the knock of effects are going to be life changing or potenially fatal. Sad
Lifeispassingby · 31/12/2020 19:23

@ASchuylerSister I listened and remember him when he phoned in previously. He seemed very genuine and concerned and it felt powerful to me. I know people who have lost family members in ambulances outside of hospitals where there are no beds for them- and they didn’t die from covid but it doesn’t matter- they couldn’t receive the treatment they needed

DianaT1969 · 31/12/2020 19:24

OP, who is denying there's a problem?

Floralnomad · 31/12/2020 19:25

From my personal experience of the hospital trust which serves my area and the adjoining one the care has been crap for years so I dread to think how bad it is now .

Orf1abc · 31/12/2020 19:26

I really don’t understand the media blackout on this

It's not in the interests of those who control the media, financially and politically.

Orf1abc · 31/12/2020 19:28

The Nightingale is on standby though, for when things get critical! They're just looking for some staff...

(No, the army do not have sufficient ITU trained medics to fill the gaps.)

hepatocyte · 31/12/2020 19:28

@DianaT1969

Quite a large proportion of the general public no?? If not, why is there so little support of lockdown policies and reluctance to be vaccinated?

I just posted on another thread that dd was quitting as she just can't cope any more.

She called me tonight on her way to work because she'd just got a message that they were down more than 50% on staffing levels, which means yet again having no break, and staying on 2 hours after her shift has finished to catch up on paperwork and overlap with (reduced) daytime staff.

She says it's unsafe; I hope she manages to work out her notice period before cracking up completely.

hepatocyte · 31/12/2020 19:30

@Orf1abc ugh that’s the really sobering thing, NHS nightingale is siting empty less than 10 miles away from the royal London 😬 what a shit show

I don’t think people are denying there’s a problem (apart from a few conspiracy nuts) and I don’t think there is a media blackout.

Lifeispassingby · 31/12/2020 19:33

@DianaT1969 quite a lot of people on MN are denying there’s a problem. They believe it’s made up and the NHS isn’t in any more crisis than normal for this time of year. There is another thread running and the attitudes of people on there are quite frankly appalling

lockeddownandcrazy · 31/12/2020 19:35

@Bluebird2021

Yes totally - the idea you can just decide you dont want to follow a law is mad!
DinosaurDildo · 31/12/2020 19:36

Terrible and upsetting to read.

There are plenty of posters on MN and Twitter saying this is just a normal winter and we should “just get back to normal and shield the vulnerable”. I just don’t understand why they think like that.
UnmentionedElephantDildo · 31/12/2020 19:38

@Orf1abc

I think the plan is so that they can put recovering patients in there, so that acute beds can be used for new admissions.

Yes, you still need staff, but not as many as for the more intensive treatment.

Palliative care might be an option there as well
