@sashagabadon

That is really good to see. There was a poster on Mumsnet pushing that particular story so hopefully it will be clarified on the NY times website.
The poster who started that thread swore that we were all in denial for not taking the word of her preferred 'scientist' as infalliable.

Do people really think that some of the best scientists in the world haven't considered things that random MNers have? Or do they think that all British scientists are in thrall to the pernicious govt? It boggles the mind.

tobee · 03/01/2021 14:09

@FourTeaFallOut

Imagine a dosing error ( as has happened in Germany already)

Yeah, I read about that. They got the entire vial and 5/6 doses at once - good to know there were no adverse effects, although I don't think anyone has checked to see if they haven't bought aaaallll the Microsoft office products now Wink

Lol Grin

sashagabadon · 03/01/2021 14:20

I know Iced! That thread was really frustrating and I think I eventually got accused of attacking the poster concerned for casting doubt on that story. So I bowed out as I try to not be personal with posters but it’s annoying when you see some posters regularly spreading a lot of unnecessary negativity about and I wasn’t convinced she was a genuine poster but I accept I might be wrong about that.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 03/01/2021 14:51

My god, this thread is a sanity saver. My Facebook has BLOWN UP - people are furious and devastated about the vaccine issue. I get it, people hate the Tories, they are scared and desperate for the pandemic to be over but so many people read that NYT article and have taken no time at all to look critically at it. I have really changed my opinion of certain friends this year. They have taken every doom-mongering article written by the Guardian as fact and been extremely pessmistic. It's so unhealthy and I say that as someone who takes the pandemic very seriously.

Whatever Boris's incompetencies, we have some wonderful scientists here and largely, I trust our regulators too. I am sure there will be bumps in the road with these vaccines and some might feel infuriating to watch play out but equally I am really proud of how people have pulled together in this country to get things moving. I am still really optimistic about it all.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/01/2021 14:57

I want to hide the coronavirus topic, but if I do will I lose this thread too, I want to keep this.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/01/2021 14:59

If you hide the coronavirus board you will still find this thread under 'I'm on'.

boxingdayclearout · 03/01/2021 15:23

Thank you all for this thread. Following with interest. It's a difficult time, but with the Oxford vaccines being rolled out tomorrow, look how far we've come since last March. Keep positive everyone.

Ps is it just me or are there an alarming number of "new" posters posting about schools and whether they should be open or not just now. I get everyone is a bit anxious, but every time I refresh Mumsnet there's another couple of new "schools open/closed" threads. Why all the new threads? Why not just post on the existing ones?

It really needs a topic of its own!!!

The bloody schools threads drive me nuts! It's like September all over again with the endless schools obsession. Yes, this is Mumsnet, I do get that, and schools are obviously very important to many posters here. But they're so repetetive, and even threads which aren't about schools quickly become taken over by the schools crowd.

Mostly, I'm glad that MN is a user generated forum and very lightly moderated. But I do think that the Coronavirus forum on MN might benefit from someone deleting redundant/repetitive schools threads. That, or as you say, make an entirely seperate board for them.

Hey all. So my new year's resolution was to stay away from the mainstream media until they started offering fair information and sharing the good as well as the bad. Oh, and to stay off the Mumsnet Coronavirus topic. Was doing really well until today when I fell down a hole of schools are reopening hysteria. My son is secondary so is off until 18th Jan anyway but my stepdaughter is still at primary. All the hysterical threads had me worried about her going back.

Then I gave my head a wobble. We live in Leicester, our rates are actually at the national average for once (we've been above them for a lot of the time) and even when they were up at 550 over Nov time (we had a spike around Diwalli time), our kids were still in school and we were still living our lives. So I started thinking rationally that actually, she's prob got less chance of catching it now then she did a few months back.

Anyway, my good news for today is I've FINALLY finished my vaccinator training! 18 certificates all uploaded, now I just have to do background checks (which again, there's about 20 components to) and then hope my character references agree to do me one.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll finally be able to submit the last piece of the application by the end of the week.

Layladylay234 · 03/01/2021 16:28

Oh, and if anyone is finding things hard, I fully recommend avoiding the news and their daily bloody numbers update. The freedom I felt yesterday and the day before was brilliant. I listened to some great podcasts too instead of constantly checking the Guardian.

Also, Cobra Kai season 3 is on Netflix and it's BRILLIANT!

Well done for completing your training. I bet You’re excited to give your first vaccine!
FuzzyPuffling · 03/01/2021 16:50

Yes, well done for completing your training. That's excellent news - both for you and for us!

Layladylay234 · 03/01/2021 16:58

So excited. I was pregnant when all this started kicking off in March and felt stupidly useless the entire time. Now,the baby's a bit older,I can actually do something to speed up everything getting back to normal and I need a bit of human interaction! And hopefully I can be a tiny tiny part of history. I can't wait until I'm giving them and that I'll give so many it will become boring!

littleowl1 · 03/01/2021 17:40

I have just posted this on the data thread and I thought it would be apt to share it here too.

Looking at the latest data - there are signs that the worst hit counties (Kent, Essex for example) are turning a corner and cases are starting to fall.

If you sort by county the table on www.covidmessenger.com and scan down through the counties, it is very apparent.

You can see quite a few councils in these counties are now green (ie falling cases week over week.

There are some data anomalies over the holiday period so I would interpret this with a little caution but still - it looks promising.

EngineeringFix · 03/01/2021 17:43

That is promising. Thanks.

tobee · 03/01/2021 17:43

Thank you so much for your "being a vaccinator" efforts @Layladylay234

And thank you for your work @littleowl1

Manzanilla55 · 03/01/2021 17:49

I really do hope that numbers will keep dropping. Thank you Littleowl1 for that news.

Inastatus · 03/01/2021 17:56

I need to join please! I’ve been reading far to much in the other Covid threads and my anxiety has sky rocketed!

@DontWalkPastTheCastle - your post has really calmed me down, thank you 😊

thatgingergirl · 03/01/2021 18:00

Thank you for going through the process Laylady - good luck and (in the nicest possible way) I hope you are busier than you ever expected to be!

And that's good news, Littleowl1 - I have family in Essex and would like them to feel a bit more optimistic.

I have to come back here frequently to check for new posts and try to keep myself off the "2nd dose cancelled" threads!

ILookAtTheFloor · 03/01/2021 18:14

Out local GPs are a vaccine hub and they're carrying out all 2nd vaccinations next week.

My nan is in a London Borough and has her 2nd booked for Thursday. My mum had a call yesterday and she was assuming it was a cancellation call- but it was just a change in time so looks as though she's getting her second 😁 she's 94.

Also glad that lots of Essex districts look like cases falling 😁 thanks everyone, I love this thread.

Wherediditgo · 03/01/2021 20:03

DontWalkPastTheCastle your post is excellent. Thank you. I was getting swept away with the screaming ‘I can’t believe they’re fucking yo the vaccine rollout’ threads and starting to really worry that it was the wrong decision. Your post makes absolute sense as to why it is the better decision.

Bathroom12345 · 03/01/2021 20:13

Don’t read the Guardian. Most depressing paper ever and SO balanced.

LittleOwl. You are great. Does a Damehood call I wonder?

Bathroom12345 · 03/01/2021 20:17

Anyone know about the vaccine supply question. 530k vaccines don’t sound much for tomorrow.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/01/2021 20:19

That's just the Oxford vaccine, they still have Pfizer jabs to administer.
