Yes I was wondering the plan after 1-4 had been done. I too had read Easter. Guess capacity to vaccinate just increases so hopefully that’s not a unreasonable expectation

chri55ie · 07/01/2021 18:15

I see new vaccination deployment plan being published by Monday so may answer those questions.

Fleshlumpeater · 07/01/2021 18:15

Did I hear somewhere in that press conference we have enough vaccines for these first 4 groups in the country now?! I didn’t think we had anywhere near that amount.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/01/2021 18:18

I've still not seen the plan for 12 weeks in, when the vulnerable groups have had their first vaccine but require a second one while they are trying to do a load of first doses for other people.

They''ll have to have a massive increase in resources or reduce the number of people getting their vaccine.

I need answers!

Thanks for the laughs! Big fan of the fast show. Also the royle family, which we revisited over Christmas

FuzzyPuffling · 07/01/2021 18:20

Big BOO HISS to the BBC - their visual for the over 70s is a bent double person using a walking stick. I may need to complain.

I'm one too! Group 6, I mean

It mentions the rest of the priority groups here as possibly by Easter but yes the higher priority groups will all be needing a second dose by then too.

ILookAtTheFloor · 07/01/2021 18:34

My nan had her 2nd Pfizer vaccine today 😁 so I'm taking that as very good news. She's 94 👍

Gratefulrunner · 07/01/2021 18:55

This is good news that there are lots of second doses being given

Gratefulrunner · 07/01/2021 18:57

dH is in group 6 due to an underlying condition. He is also a front line key worker so I will breathe a sigh of relief once he’s had the jab

FuzzyPuffling · 07/01/2021 19:04

I'm in the "do more first doses" camp. Decent protection for more people above better protection for half the number.
But I know it can be contentious.

(Not OxAZ which performs better with a 12 week gap)

Fuzzy I’m asplenic and have a shielding letter as does my son (although our GP doesn’t necessarily agree and urges caution rather than shielding) so assume/hope that we’re in group 4.

We do really seem to be forgotten in our area of the Midlands though. My parents are 87 and 85 and neither have had their first vaccine yet. Dad was contacted a month ago by his surgery to set his up but hasn’t had any further contact since. A vaccine clinic was actually arranged in the town for before Christmas and cancelled the night before and as of yet hasn’t been rescheduled. My Mom was called by her GP surgery yesterday for a different matter so asked about vaccinations and was told that they hope to have some news in the next few weeks.

A friend works in a surgery in a different area of the country and they’ve now vaccinated all of their over 80s and are now making appointments for the 75-79 age group.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/01/2021 19:51

Do surgeries only vaccinate their own patients?

tobee · 07/01/2021 20:07

My df and dm are Surrey and haven't been done yet but have an appointment on Saturday they are 85 and 84. But my aunt, a couple of miles away, 88, was done before Christmas. Neighbour of my mum, 81, already done. Not sure of rhyme or reason really.

@FourTeaFallOut

Do surgeries only vaccinate their own patients?
Not all surgeries are doing it so I would think not.
MadisonAvenue · 07/01/2021 20:10

It seems to be that they surgery sets up the appointments for wherever it is that the vaccine will be given. The clinic which was cancelled in our town was being held in a hotel.

thatgingergirl · 07/01/2021 20:15

I think there must be various set ups, Four. My mum's neighbour was contacted by her own GP's surgery, but the actual appointment is at a business/industrial estate about 8 miles away - some sort of "hub" I guess.

I know they are saying we will be almost out of the woods after first 4 groups done bit it is really first six isn't it. If the do manage that by Easter. Well life should be pretty good after thatSmile

@FourTeaFallOut

Do surgeries only vaccinate their own patients?
Our local surgeries have grouped together and are vaccinating in a church hall.

Also this tweet from Matt Hancock:

I'm delighted that two new drugs, tocilizumab & sarilumab, have been approved to help save lives from COVID & will be used in our NHS from tomorrow.

THANK YOU to everyone involved in this breakthrough that British scientists have achieved, working internationally & with our NHS.

great news

FuzzyPuffling · 07/01/2021 20:35

Five of our GP surgeries have clubbed together and are vaccinating in the cottage hospital in the middle (roughly) of the patch.

(Still 12 miles from me, Boris with your "everyone will have a vaccine hub within 10 miles" but that's pedantry! But then again they might need to sort out the appointments since there is only one bus a week there and it returns 2 hours later...!)

I did have to chuckle at BoJo trying to pronounce those names... I didn't envy him on live TV 😂
FourTeaFallOut · 07/01/2021 21:25

Oh that's interesting. My gp surgery are starting vaccinations tomorrow and I was just wondering when they meet the requirements to move down a group - to the 75 yrs+ - would this be when they've finished their own cohort of eligible patients or could/ would they widen their net beyond their own patients to get more 80+ people in the area?
