Sorry a bit late to the party, but earlier you were talking about how mid Feb isn't that long away. Well I have a countdown on my watch and as I've not got anything to look forward to I have set it to 1st March. That's only 7 weeks away on Monday. Just googled Easter and its 12 weeks tomorrow. So who knows where we will be in 12 weeks.

TeaInTheGarden · 07/01/2021 21:53

I’m counting the days till 15 Feb. 39 to go!

thatgingergirl · 07/01/2021 21:58

Perhaps Boris means 10 miles as the crow flies Fuzzy! (Or as the puffin flies, in your case!)

ArianaVenti · 07/01/2021 22:04

There was a question upthread about when they start vaccinating under 80s - i don't know how it gets decided either but my mil &fil are both 75-80 & they have their vaccinations booked for tomorrow, so obviously some places are getting further down the list already.

OrangeBananaFish · 07/01/2021 22:22

I love counting down to things. Kind of sad its to do with a pandemic though.
TeaInTheGarden · 07/01/2021 22:24

Yep. If not for covid we’d be counting down to Disney world in April. Never thought I’d be counting down to a decision about whether my children can go back to school....
Perspective or what..?!

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 07/01/2021 22:36

@ClarasZoo

Are people getting two Pfizer shots now. I think my dad has only had one:(
I work in a GP surgery and we are running clinics at the moment. We have have done our first phase of over 80s and are now mopping up the ones we couldn't get first time while moving on to the next group. I think we have done second doses this week for the patients done 3 weeks ago but, after this week, it will be delayed to within 12 weeks. Our GPs argued that patients who gave consent to have it as 2 doses 3 weeks apart should have that honoured then move to the 12 weeks for patients from now but were told otherwise by the powers that be. They do all seem to agree that it looks like a reasonable decision though and all of our surgery staff will have second dose delayed so please don't worry about your dad
feelingverylazytoday · 07/01/2021 22:38

@JemimaPyjamas

I'm one too! Group 6, I mean
Me too! It's because I'm a carer for a vulnerable adult though, not CV myself.
InterfectoremVulpes · 07/01/2021 23:20

Just googled Easter and its 12 weeks tomorrow. So who knows where we will be in 12 weeks.

I'm hoping cyprus as my booking for last year was moved to this year 🤣

Although I am pretty certain it's going to be moved again, but I can hope!

JemimaPyjamas · 07/01/2021 23:41

@InterfectoremVulpes you never know! I’m wondering (hoping) that so many places that rely heavily on tourism will be eager to get going again so you may well be going! Might have to have a test first perhaps?
We are off to the Far East on 31st July for three weeks, I’ve been edgy about it being possible but feel a lot more confident about it happening today than I did a few days back.

I am SO desperate for this all to end!

HalfDutchGirl · 08/01/2021 00:26

Love this thread, a breath of fresh air amongst the doom and gloom! Especially as it includes puffins!!

My partner’s Mum (aged 82) had her second jab today, there really is light at the end of the tunnel at last.

tobee · 08/01/2021 02:59

Quick poll: did everyone who got their vaccine or know someone who was vaccinated get clearly told which vaccine they got? (Just interested)

starfish88 · 08/01/2021 03:08

My grandma in her 90s still hasn't been contacted but she's very rural and things tend to take longer here. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

I think for the people concerned about how they will manage the 2nd doses alongside the first doses, they still are waiting for a lot of the volunteers to complete training and be assigned locations etc. I have a couple of friends who have signed up to be vaccinators or marshals and so hopefully with those people starting in the next few weeks the capacity will increase (exponentially?)

Jerble · 08/01/2021 06:25

Hi. I’m a volunteer marshal at a GP hub (of 5 local practices). It has been so lovely seeing the patients and having a chat whilst they’re waiting in the queue. A lot of them have been shielding at home since March and are really pleased to be able to have a chat with someone face-to-face. Some are scared and wary of being outside but we are there to reassure them. Yes, patients are told which vaccine they are getting. It has been a fantastic atmosphere at the centre with everyone working really hard to get this done.

You can hope on this thread, the rest of MN however................

@tobee my friend posted her vaccine document on FB and it clearly stated there she had the Pfizer one.

Another friend (care home worker) gets vaccinated this morning. Very exciting

Blerg · 08/01/2021 07:50

Really glad to see all the vaccine roll out news and new treatments too.

Did Sir John Bell say anything further about the SA variant on the BBC or briefing?

My parents (Dad 82, mum late 70s) still haven’t heard re the vaccine. They are rural too. I’m trying to be patient but it means everything to us.

FuzzyPuffling · 08/01/2021 07:52

Bit "not positive" warning...I am getting increasingly worried about the message coming out from government of "once group 4 is done we can open up again". This feels like a denial of the risks to groups 5 and 6 ( over 65 and CV). I know my group 4 DH has said he won't be changing any behaviour until I'm done (6) as I'm still pretty high risk.
I'd like to see the messaging changing, perhaps to "decreasing risk, better for NHS, but let's be cautious".

Anyway, moan over...as you were!

I heard Pfizer works against SA variant ( under lab conditions, not peer reviewed) which is good news ( if slightly muted).

Similar age parents. They haven’t heard either. Total radio silence from the GP practice. They don’t have any online presence so no messages even to say “don’t call us, we will call you!”
thatgingergirl · 08/01/2021 08:27

My parents (88 and 85) haven't heard yet and DF is CV. Hoping they hear for next week. (But not Monday as DH is having a minor hospital procedure - I'm anxious about a timing clash!). (But relieved "other stuff" is still going on).

That is so heartening Jerble. And thank you for volunteering.

With you on that

Dh is group 6 but his risk is the same as a 70 year old

I think the sage people want all the over 50s done just hope government listens
