Really pleased to have stumbled across this thread and loving the sensible, balanced articles that are are being shared.

I was about to quit Mumsnet as the negetaivity and judgement was getting to me but will hang around here from now on, if thats ok. :)

@BigWoollyJumpers

*Did you know the Covid vaccine gives you hundreds to thousands times more immunity than having had the virus? Virologist *@DrChrisSmith tells us some interesting facts as he answers our panel's questions about vaccination

This guy was on Jeremy Vine this morning... really clear, and reasoned, and all good news Grin. I didn't know that!

Oh I like him.

Explains things so clearly and very reassuring.

Going to go watch that on catch up. Thanks

3 of my friends working in NHS had first jabs yesterday! It feels so fantastic knowing people close to me are being vaccinated

Manzanilla55 · 06/01/2021 17:09

As well as this lovely thread there is also The Corona Free Zone section on mumsnet. On there we are forbidden to mention the C word!!

Gratefulrunner · 06/01/2021 17:12

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum I love that it’s a proper badge!

thatgingergirl · 06/01/2021 17:19

A badge - even better! I love the crown - is that for "corona"?! Ha!

Corona virus good news tweet re novavax and j&j vaccine results soon - they’ve been pretty reliable so far!

TheChineseChicken · 06/01/2021 17:36

We’re going to have more vaccines than people soon!

Crazycatlady83 · 06/01/2021 17:37

@MarcelineMissouri this is huge! If j&j results are positive, being a single dose is a massive advantage. Plus I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread that the trials have been through November / December when the new strain has been prevalent so we should have good evidence that the vaccines work with the new strain! Fingers crossed for these results and quick approval!

FuzzyPuffling · 06/01/2021 17:42

Oooh come on J&J and Novavax. The more the merrier.

Now let's get all those pharmacies set up!

(Although I laughed (hollowly) at the "90% of people within a 20 min walk of a 0harmacy...our nearest is 7 miles away and a 20 minute walk would get you yo a field full of sheep. I'm definitely in the remaining 10%)

And I'n slightly nervous of a queue of people trying to get into our local Boots, queuing down the high street of a small town with other shoppers shoving past and everyone stopping for a chat with their friends and neighbours...

cathyandclare · 06/01/2021 17:49

Great news on J&J and Novavax. Just looked at the UK's vaccine portfolio, Kate Bingham really did a good job there, a really decent spread of options and dose numbers.

cathyandclare · 06/01/2021 17:52

I spoke to a St John's Ambulance recruiter today ( interview for volunteer vaccinator) and he said they were processing 30,000 volunteers. They managed to interview me, check my DBS and my references all in 48 hours. Really impressive, just waiting for my training log in now. I hope PHE make good use of them, they were more efficient and responsive than the NHS.

Do we now when we are promised to start getting them if approved?

Crazycatlady83 · 06/01/2021 17:58

@cathyandclare that’s interesting. Can I ask when you applied? My DH is waiting for “the call” (not as a vaccinator but helping elsewhere - not sure what, not sure he knows, he just wanted to volunteer!)

Definitely think the pharmacies should now get involved - they are so good at distributing the flu vaccine and in recent years there has been a big push to go to the pharmacy instead of to your GP for example. A roll out of the vaccine would help for sure with the long term messaging that pharmacies are a great Public Health Service!!

Snorklette · 06/01/2021 18:02

I love this Puffin-tastic positive thread!

My FIL is having his vaccine tomorrow and my friend who is the Manager of a Care Home had hers on New Year’s Day!

Oh, and I also love a koala. Just sayin’! 😁

thatgingergirl · 06/01/2021 18:04

Yes, Puffling - I'm really not seeing your average high street chemist covering this. We have 4 in my local town - one of those has a consulting room, 2 others are tiny shops and the other is a Boots store. I guess they may have rooms they could separate off.

Mind you, as things stand, I just keep telling my mum and dad they're to treat an appointment offer like a Martini advert - any time, any place, anywhere!!

FourTeaFallOut · 06/01/2021 18:09

1 dodgy freezer, 600 doses in two hours.

www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-01-04/freezer-broken-california-town-had-to-use-or-lose-vaccine-shots

When all this is done they'll make a movie about this. Well played, guys.

Less than 48 hours ago! But I think they must be on a vaccinator drive, the interview came through in such a short space of time. It was still thorough wrt to qualifications, experience, DBS etc though. Good luck to your DH

Gratefulrunner · 06/01/2021 18:12

Oof just read some of the other threads floating around ... breathe breathe ...

CornishYarg · 06/01/2021 18:27

Positivity, Puffins and Pharmacies...this thread is a welcome relief as the doom continues unabated everywhere else.

I get an annual flu jab and while the GP surgery does the over 65 one, the under 65s have been done by the pharmacy for the past two years. They're extremely efficient and as the pharmacy is connected to the GPs, they were able to update my records immediately. It was slightly slower this autumn due to the pharmacist changing PPE between people, but not massively so; the pharmacist said he had done back-to-back flu jabs all day as demand was high.
