I still don't know anyone who has had Covid.

Title says it all I suppose.

I still know no one who has had the virus.

Am I in a minority? Anyone else not know anyone that's had it?

I truley believe it's real. I just don't know anyone that's had it!

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide

You should never tempt fate op!
Yes be careful what you wish for...
EmpressSuiko · 31/12/2020 19:43

A lot of my family and friends are based in the south east and loads of them have had it or just recently contracted it.
We’ve also had cases in school and needed to isolate.

Qwpoeriu · 31/12/2020 19:47

Trust me, I'm not wishing for Covid in my life! Knowing my luck I have tempted fate now!

Seems I'm not in such a minority as I thought but still feel very fortunate to be on this side of the coin than the other.

I wonder how long it will be until we are just living with the virus in society like we do the flu?

We are rural too, and not aware of any Covid in the village, but apart from the Pub (only seating outdoors when it was open), the Farm Shop (only 1 person at a time) and the Church we don't have any places to mix.
My cousin in Dorset is currently in hospital and tested positive, and although she contracted it in her residential home, they won't take her back, so she is blocking a bed as she is fit enough to leave. (She hasn't been out since March and hasn't had visitors since October) .
One of my son's work colleagues has tested positive, so he isolated. Both of other son's house mates in the East Midlands had it.
Its real, I knew a retired GP who died of it ,and the mother of one of my neighbours who was in a NH.

AllWashedOut · 31/12/2020 19:52

I'm in a very low risk area. I know of a group that caught covid down the pub. They were hyper-cautious individuals and at-risk, so they took the precautions they thought reasonable but still caught it two months ago. I have two family members in healthcare settings and exposed to covid patients. Neither have had it (yet). I don't know many people, new to area, family in the local city. I have another family member upcountry who also works in healthcare and she has just caught it. Her OH caught it back in March. It's out there, no denying it. What is strange is the way the virus was no worse than a cold for 4 friends who caught it - all are morbidly obese, over-70, hypertension, the lot.

Qwpoeriu · 31/12/2020 19:58

The bit I find strange is the stories I've read on here and the news of not everyone in the household getting it! 2 test positive and 2 don't. It must be on every surface imaginable and the air filled with Covid particles! How does that happen?

tinytemper66 · 31/12/2020 20:02

My sister who works in a school caught it in the last week of term and has now passed it on to her family. She lives in London.

EileenGC · 31/12/2020 20:21

It definitely does happen - only one adult in the house getting it.

My mum was positive (asymptomatic) in October, my dad and brother tested negative both on PCR tests and antibodies. Some people just don't catch it.

I must say it's impressive you don't know anyone who caught Covid Shock I had my mum, my best friend, one aunt together with her husband, 3yo son and 6mo twins, a cousin + her husband, but not his two girls who live with them. Three other friends - a mixture of being the only one getting it or their whole household being positive; and we had 10-15 people at work (out of a team of 150 and not all at the same time). Also my partner's aunt and uncle and one of her grandparents.

Sadly we have also lost two family friends, one of them was a fit and healthy 45 year old who has left behind two children aged 5 and 11. It's the first time I've written all of that down, and coupled with the loss of 70% of my income this year, I am truly ready to say goodbye to 2020! I am sick of Covid.

peapotter · 31/12/2020 20:24

It depends where you live and who you socialise with. If you live in a place that

a) has low rates (never gone above 100/100k here)
b) mostly middle class, lots of wfh, less bus drivers or factory workers.
c) you don’t have a massive social circle, or stay off social media.

If you have rates of 100/100k since October then only 1% of local people have had it recently. It’s quite easy to not know anyone personally.

On the other hand some people have the opposite, so many cases and even deaths. It’s very uneven and unfair.

EileenGC · 31/12/2020 20:27

I must add, like other PP have pointed out, it's been a lottery when it comes to symptoms and how long the illness lasts. The elderly and one obese relative barely had any symptoms.

Then you get the fit and healthy 45yo who died, and my 40yo aunt with no health conditions who ended up in hospital for 2 weeks. To be fair, she does have 3 kids 3 and under so I'm imagining her immune system was shot...

ElfIsAnAss · 31/12/2020 20:36

I have 2 friends who've had to isolate due to someone close to them have it. My sister-in-law has had it as has her daughter, son-in-law and his mum, sister and grandmother. My boss lost his grandfather due to covid. 2 teachers at my DS school have had it.

MyrtlesMoans · 31/12/2020 20:39

I have it. Two family members have had it. Three work colleagues have had it. Two children I know have had it. Two of my friends friends died of it.

Hope that helps, OP.

RavingAnnie · 31/12/2020 20:40

I was like this until very recently. My cousin then tested positive just before Christmas as did my friend's boyfriend. Friend of a friend type thing but my SIL knows 5 people at their child's school who has it.

Wannabangbang · 31/12/2020 20:41

I don't personally but i know of people that are friends family members. It's very very real

mrsdolittle · 31/12/2020 20:46

I know plenty OP. Three of my friends lost their elderly mothers to covid. And my cousin died of covid just before Xmas - she was 54

I personally know 2 people. I have kids at senior school, college and eldest is a primary teacher.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 31/12/2020 21:36

I reckon I know about 20.

SlayDuggee · 31/12/2020 22:02

I know 5 people who’ve had it. 1 had it in April and the rest recently.

1 paramedic friend
1 friend who works in hospital but caught it off a family member
1 friend caught it on holiday
My uncle died. He was in his 80’s with no underlying conditions.
Neighbour died from it. She was housebound and went into hospital for something else and caught Covid there

Quizmas · 31/12/2020 22:05

I barely know anyone either. The mum of a girl at my DD’s school. A teacher at my DS’s school. My sister says her friend had it in the spring. But that’s it. I have three children at different schools so I know a lot of families and we both work so chat to people that way too. I’m really surprised I don’t know of more cases.

Ihaveaskedyouthrice · 31/12/2020 22:10

I didn't know anyone until this week. Now my 3 year old son and my dad have it and most likely the rest of my family once we get tested.

LegoAndLolDolls · 31/12/2020 22:24

I have four kids on four different settings and I definitely have heard of lots and lots of cases. Dh works in a secondary and we are semi rural with low case rates but its certainly doing the rounds around here. It's most definitely when not if we all catch it now. There was lots of suspected cases back before you could get tested. Then a lull, now it's flaring up again but each suspected case is confirmed

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 31/12/2020 22:28

I know 23 people who have had it, all recovered, a few had a very tough time and are still struggling others have been fine.. all bar one are under 50.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 31/12/2020 22:29

Sorry 33 not 23

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 31/12/2020 22:36

I work in a primary school, by Xmas we'd had 23 positive cases amongst the staff. My BIL(paramedic) had it really badly in March (was hospitalised) and my friend along with her entire family have had it over Xmas. I'm in Essex and it's spreading like wildfire.
