Tier 4, are you sending your kids back Monday?

I’m extremely nervous about sending my child back now, moved into tier 4, area we are in has increased a lot, on border of another area which has leaped in cases the last week, I am higher risk and also look after a relative who is ECV, anyone not sending their child/children back?

I didn't realise you could get fined for keeping your kids off. I'm struggling to believe that. Surely that is going to be contested? That is just insane.

I have pre-school aged kids and will be sending them as soon as they are open because they are bored and lonely and this year has already had such a bad effect on them. Not an easy decision though.

(Also I need to work.)

dingoesatemybaby · 30/12/2020 22:44

Yes.

But mine would be going regardless as DH and I are both keyworkers.

refusetobeasheep · 30/12/2020 22:47

Yes sending her in. The light went out of her during lockdown when the schools were closed. Some children liked home schooling, mine struggled. We're not seeing anyone outside of school so can't spread it further in the community should she catch it at school.

Ugzbugz · 30/12/2020 22:49

Kids arent being vaccinated so presume it will be around for years so yes plus I have to work.

No idea when under 50s are being vaccinated, might be another 6 months at least? They cant stay home that long and I go to work anyway.

Ugzbugz · 30/12/2020 22:52

I am tier 4, I was In the range with the Bojo announcement before xmas that pushed us in.

Ilovenewyear · 30/12/2020 22:52

Yes mine will be going back.
My DC already contracted the virus. I’m as sure as i can be it was at school (school was our only ‘close contact’ in the 2 weeks preceding the positive test).
I can’t have them missing any more learning and school won’t provide any resources for children who don’t attend while open.
Plus I have a toddler at home which also diminishes the quality of home educating significantly.

The whole point is to get the numbers down. Its not about it lasting years. If they don't get the numbers down there will no room in hospitals when your child or you are ill.
Starlightstarbright1 · 30/12/2020 23:03

@Alwaysandforeverhere

Book the test show the proof of booking and then claim to of never got the results would be away around that tbh. My children school don’t ask for proof of testing just proof of negative/positive.
This is an awful thing to do when someone else could have the test.

I don’t agree parents should be fined either for clarity

DottyWott · 30/12/2020 23:09

Yes. One SEN at secondary in specialist setting, and one who really suffered with poor mental health in last closure. Keyworkers and could rearrange work and juggle like crazy (like last time), but we won’t. We’ve also had COVID couple of months ago so unlikely to catch again yet.

Hurtandupset2 · 30/12/2020 23:14

We're tier 4, one of the highest rates in the country, but mine will be going back on the 4th as they're in yr 11 and as of now, this is what the school have said has to happen. Other years are going back on the 11th though.

This may change tomorrow after the latest news.

I'm vulnerable, but I didn't really have much choice.

My shielding letter got lost in the system last time so I didn't actually receive it until July (was apparently sent in April), so I just had to get on with things as I couldn't get support without it anyway and I'm not expecting anything different this time as I've, once again, not received an email/ letter abt shielding/ being careful.

I've actually since decided that I don't want to spend my life hiding away anyway, so whilst I'm careful, I'm not going to isolate unless I have to (eg, been in contact with positive case).

StacySoloman · 30/12/2020 23:16

I'm in tier 3 and not vulnerable, but thinking I will keep mine home the first week and just see how things go.

Nochristmasbreak · 30/12/2020 23:31

For those saying they are sick with worry about sending your children in, please don't send them in.

The worst you will get if the school feel they have to is a warning letter, just put it in the bin!!

You will not go to prison it doesn't matter, if you would rather keep them home, keep them home. Hundreds in each school will be staying at home. Say you are ill, say you are isolating, say they have a bug etc etc. It really doesn't matter.

Do whatever you need to do for your family and well-being.

We will be there for the students and parents that need us to be and we understand for those that would rather be at home.

We do have some vulnerabilities in our family, but also doing the same & also tier 3..

Well said. I totally agree. The teachers will also be glad of smaller numbers believe me.
Shmithecat2 · 30/12/2020 23:36

Yes, my ds will be going back to school on Monday. I'm relieved the schools aren't closing tbh. He needs to interaction with his peers, and I need a bit of child free time. There's been no cases where we are or at his school, and our wider area figures have dropped despite being put into tier 4 tonight.

MarshaBradyo · 30/12/2020 23:38

Yes tier 4 and one of few boroughs still open

I agree people who are feeling anxious should just keep dc home (SI if you have to)

I’m more concerned about tier 4 closing schools and when they’ll re open

Here is some information from DfE - incase you missed it.

Fifipop185 · 30/12/2020 23:46

DS attends a specialist school which will be open, and as we've had Covid in the household he will be going to back school. DD is in sixth form so can easily and happily do online learning until her year opens. Her December exams got postponed until January and I expect they will be delayed again. She is wondering if she will ever do a real exam ever again after the GCSE fiasco. Confused

SymphonyofShadows · 30/12/2020 23:46

Youngest is Y10, he isn’t due back until 18th Jan, but he won’t be going back until I deem it safe. I’m CEV and WFH. DH has basically retired (early) and is more than capable of making sure he gets enough home schooling in the important subjects. We can string it out with ‘symptoms’ until end of Jan, then I’ll argue like mad about a fine if necessary. A family member in their 40’s died on Christmas Day of Covid, so I’m just in the fucking mood to argue with bureaucracy. Tier 4, the neighbouring area has an infection rate of about 1 in 40, bollocks to that.

Cheerios444 · 30/12/2020 23:53

Im in an area where primary schools are closed so I dont have to send DC back, Im very thankful as was dreading having to email the school and get into a potential awkward conversation.

Cheerios444 · 30/12/2020 23:54

I have a lot of sympathy for people who werent so lucky to be on the list...especially boroughs neighbouring those with extremely high rates. I hope you can come to an agreement with your school OP
