I’m extremely nervous about sending my child back now, moved into tier 4, area we are in has increased a lot, on border of another area which has leaped in cases the last week, I am higher risk and also look after a relative who is ECV, anyone not sending their child/children back?

Wouldn't deregister, eldest in small, great secondary, out of catchment, very lucky to have the place would never get it back.

Tier 4 high cases here not going back anyway but couldn't deregister.

I would talk to head first.

‘Schools should not require evidence of negative test results or other medical evidence before admitting children or welcoming them back after a period of self-isolation.‘

From the government guidance for schools here:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-attendance/addendum-recording-attendance-in-relation-to-coronavirus-covid-19-during-the-2020-to-2021-academic-year

You may want to ask them why they are not following the guidance given here. They cannot require medical information from you.

They also cannot require that you test your child, as a medical procedure it requires consent. So just say that your child has symptoms, you are not testing so will be completing the 10 day isolation period instead. It buys you time at least for any post Christmas cases to close the class bubble.

I have found my child’s school hard to deal with, I have been open and honest with them about my concerns, attended a meeting with them to discuss at their request and had regular contact with them but they have been quite brutal in their response, I will be honest with them again this time around, and I was with the local authority who actually agreed with my reasons for child being off, unfortunately still had the fines and threats of £1000 fines and criminal records.

The fines are the schools decision. My school has fined no one as we don't think it's fair on families during a global pandemic.

We have had lots of parents say we are not sending our kids in for the rest of the term and we have said "Fine, keep safe".

So know it's the schools decision they dont have to fine anyone.

But avoid the dreaded warning letter by saying my husband has symptoms so the kids are isolating, then two weeks later you have symptoms etc, they can't fine you if your kids are isolating surely?

Thank you for sharing this Info, I didn’t realise this was the case

They’ll be going back. We aren’t in a privileged enough position to stay off and homeschool them sadly.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 30/12/2020 21:06

I can’t decide. My town is currently at 404 in 100,000. I quite honestly don’t know what to do for best :(

Willyoujustbequiet · 30/12/2020 21:06

No. Figure I can buy two weeks by claiming symptoms.

I shouldn't have to though. Its criminal how the government are treated worried families.

Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 21:06

For people saying "be honest, they won't fine" note it isn't the same in every school. My DC's school have threatened fines and won't support me keeping them at home, despite being disabled. I have no choice but to lie! I can't deregister my two youngest, they love their school.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 30/12/2020 21:06

I am lucky to be able to rearrange all of my work to evening appointments if needed

Tiquismiquis · 30/12/2020 21:07

Absolutely. Mine has already had covid so no reason to not send her back.

flowerycurtain · 30/12/2020 21:11

Yes but with caveats. Mine are due back Tuesday. I think a lot of businesses have been shut for Christmas that will have effectively made a bit of a fire break. Round here, nurseries and factories for example are shut for over a week, sometimes 2.

If early next week cases are still rising then I'll withdraw them like a shot. I very much hope they'll be plateauing/dropping though.

anonymous1020 · 30/12/2020 21:15

@Beebityboo not sure if you meant me as I said be honest, (which I still think is always best). It isn't up to the school if they fine though. It's up to the local authority. I would ring and speak to your LA. I have plenty of schools threatening parents with fines, I speak to the parents and tell them it isn't actually up to the school and not something we are pursuing at the moment (with the caveat our position may change in future and no categorical guarantee we won't consider fines in future)

Tiquismiquis · 30/12/2020 21:18

And I cannot believe people are suggesting faking results. That is extremely selfish and could result in 29 other families being forced to homeschool unnecessarily.

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 21:23

Op, some schools have insisted on total uniform policy, even in freezing weather and window open..

Why be honest?.. We get one life...

Fudge it..

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 21:26

Tiq I agree...

Maybe fake negative but not positives...

You could say symptom, then day for test then 72 + hours for results negative... Weekend.. Monday... Symptoms... D and v etc.

However this is what people will do in utterly diabolical times.

Luckyrabbitfoot · 30/12/2020 21:33

My DD’s primary is shut now. But I wouldn’t have sent her back anyway.

PusheenLove · 30/12/2020 21:39

I'm sending them. None of this is their fault.

NataliaOsipova · 30/12/2020 21:46

Mine are going back. Would be no problem to keep them at home, but they are better off at school.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:02

@PusheenLove

I'm sending them. None of this is their fault.
Its not about blame ffs!
Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:02

Its about spread.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:03

Its not a punishment. Its about safety. For you, your children, the teachers, your family, society...

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:04

Its not anyones fault except the person that started it and the UK Govt for being inept.

Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 22:08

I'm in complete pieces to be honest. As a disabled parent I can no longer cope with the pressure of all this. My DC's will be devastated if I deregister. I can't stop crying. I'm so tired of being scared.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 30/12/2020 22:12

I don't know what to do. I hope the list updates over the weekend to be honest and then very likely our school will be shut.
