Tier 4, are you sending your kids back Monday?

I’m extremely nervous about sending my child back now, moved into tier 4, area we are in has increased a lot, on border of another area which has leaped in cases the last week, I am higher risk and also look after a relative who is ECV, anyone not sending their child/children back?

I thought Tier 4 meant no school? Our boys' two schools will be closed and we're tier 4.

weddingplanning15 · 30/12/2020 22:16

Yes my primary aged dc will be going back because I have to go to work. If I was or lived with anyone vulnerable I would be thinking twice, it's appalling that parents are being fined for keeping children off, they should have a choice

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/12/2020 22:18

No Latte it's only 49 areas in Tier 4. All the rest have primaries open on Monday.

edwinbear · 30/12/2020 22:19

Mine aren’t due back until 11th Jan anyway, but yes, I will absolutely send them back. DS has had two periods of self isolation after bubbles burst, he desperately needs to be back at school and we don’t have anyone vulnerable in our household.

@Beebityboo

I'm in complete pieces to be honest. As a disabled parent I can no longer cope with the pressure of all this. My DC's will be devastated if I deregister. I can't stop crying. I'm so tired of being scared.
I feel for you. Its so hard :( Do what you feel is right for you and your family.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:21

Do you have to deregister them?

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:22

Is there another way? Even for a couple of weeks?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/12/2020 22:22

@Beebityboo deep breath. We'll figure it out.

Whataloadofshit · 30/12/2020 22:22

Yes I am.

Itsnotlikethiswithotherpeople · 30/12/2020 22:23

@Beebityboo

Unless we deregister we have no option really. The government have given us no choice Sad
In a neighbouring town in tier 4 (where schools are remaining open) lots of friends have written to the headteacher saying they aren’t sending them back. None are being threatened with being fined.
Beebityboo · 30/12/2020 22:25

I've exhausted every option with their school. My disability is rare so unpredictable with Covid and didn't get a shielding letter, as a result the school won't be flexible. I'm fucked anyway. If I die DH will need them at school so he can still work.
Sorry. Having a bit of an anxiety meltdown!

Most people dont die. Even those that are elderly and have conditions. Look, if you dont want your child at school say they are unwell.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:27

They arent the bloody police.

Daisychainsandglitter · 30/12/2020 22:27

Absolutely.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:27

Also, there are other illnesses apart from covid .

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:28

Personally, in your position I would say, sorry they have a stomach bug.

PickAChew · 30/12/2020 22:28

Yes, mine will be going back to his special school. We've had a lot of difficult behaviour to deal with and he's co stantly looking for reassurance that he goes back next Tuesday.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:28

Do you need to even tell them why they are off?
I usually just say my kids arent well. Job done.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/12/2020 22:29

I look forwards to taking them in as usual on Tuesday. They're finding this isolation period holiday very tedious. Our rates are lower than they were when we went into tier 2.

I fear far more harm being done by being out of school. Faliure to engage with home learning. Depression. Anger at the lack of social and physical stimulus. No opportunity to progress with an EHCP.
They need school.
They need their peers.

I'm dreading telling my 7yo that his sports are stolen from him yet again after only 2 or 3 sessions back from the last ban. (I obviously won't phrase it like that)

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/12/2020 22:29

I understand. I'm not sure we fix this individually. We need to get councillors, MPs, legal stuff involved. Are you classed as clinically vulnerable?

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:29

If its not covid, its none of their bloody business

Fortherosesjoni70 · 30/12/2020 22:33

Look, keep them off, even for a short time to see how the situation pans out. Dont get yourself stressed honeslty.

Timeforredwine · 30/12/2020 22:33

Apparently the government keep saying to take responsibility for ourselves and allowing people to make their own minds up like at xmas just because we say you can mix you dont have to so therefore same should go with parents in deciding whether they send their own child to school or not!

Totally.
StellaVirgin · 30/12/2020 22:35

Decided tonight ours won't be returning. I feel horribly guilty because I've tried to keep things as normal as possible but enough now. I'm CEV, unable to work until this shit show is over, and cannot risk the kids going back to school now. I'm so tired with it all but will certainly have something to say about any fines for not sending them in. If it's not safe enough for me to be there, it's not safe enough to send them in for them to bring it home to me. Had a couple of near misses and with rates sky rocketing at the moment we're going to hold off and see how it goes.
