From this it seems the plan is to close schools in tier 4 areas but what about pupils and staff who live in other tiers and commute in?

Yup, Lewisham definitely not on that list. Utter insanity. They can get to fuck; my son will be at home.

ProfessorPootle · 30/12/2020 17:25

I’m Richmond, we’re 641 I think and on the list? Makes no sense, Kingston which is next door not on the list but they have higher cases. Lots of other London boroughs above us. I wonder if it’s to do with growth rather than total numbers?

whatwouldyoudo85 · 30/12/2020 17:27

My borough has some of the highest rates in the country and we are not on the list Confused

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 17:27

Can't believe Lambeth isn't included. Lambeth has higher rates than my borough. I can see some more being added to that list of the next 24 hours.

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:30

Why not just put the whole of London under the same guidance?

ineedaholidaynow · 30/12/2020 17:30

I assume they will keep reviewing the situation and the areas will change if necessary. I am also assuming a number of parents will vote with their feet.

MotorwayDiva · 30/12/2020 17:30

It's crazy that Greenwich isn't on the list considering they wanted to close pre christmas.
I don't think it will be long before more schools close, especially as rates are raising in many areas

kirinm · 30/12/2020 17:31

That list doesn't make any sense? Lewisham has higher rates than Richmond! And kids living in Southwark go to school in Lewisham. Did they forget some boroughs?

madroid · 30/12/2020 17:31

What a fudge!

If you don't want to send your dc in I think you are well within your rights to keep them off. Just keep saying you're self-isolating until half term. It's only 6 weeks.

Indie Sage says all schools and unis need to be closed.

EssentialHummus · 30/12/2020 17:32

Lewisham here and I'm keeping DD home I think.

MarshaBradyo · 30/12/2020 17:33

We’re not on list but boroughs next to us are

Wakemeuuuup · 30/12/2020 17:33

They must have forgotten some boroughs. It makes to sense to leave just a few off

KimchiLaLa · 30/12/2020 17:33

Does anyone know if it includes nurseries?

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:34

Lewisham here and I'm keeping DD home I think.

Me too.

Hmmph · 30/12/2020 17:34

Boris just said schools are safe, the dangers come from the mixing that happens in schools!

kirinm · 30/12/2020 17:34

@KimchiLaLa

Does anyone know if it includes nurseries?
No it doesn't. Unless the nursery is linked to a primary school and then they can decide to close if they want.
Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:37

Like hell are schools safe.

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 17:37

@Lairyfightzzzz

Why not just put the whole of London under the same guidance?
Would make sense wouldn't it.
Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:38

And what about children who live in a Borough where schools are closed but attend a school in a Borough where they aren't? Not unusual!

Porcupineintherough · 30/12/2020 17:39

We are staying in T3 but kids school (secondary) is in T4 sp hopefully they'll not be going back for a bit.

MegtheShark · 30/12/2020 17:40

@Hmmph

Boris just said schools are safe, the dangers come from the mixing that happens in schools!
So...schools aren’t safe then?

The mixing doesn’t just happen at schools, it happens at the gates, in the streets outside the gates, on public transport, and in the homes of a lot of parents who openly admit that ‘well, they are together all day at school, why not have a party/sleep over/play date’.

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 17:40

Give it 48 hours then all London boroughs will be on the list. I can see LA leaders giving Gov a lot of stick especially if their cases are higher or increasing faster than others. I get they want to keep as many schools open as possible, but this is not the way to go about it.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/12/2020 17:40

Yes we have been told we will be fined. HT sympathetic but no choice.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 30/12/2020 17:40

It's such a weird list - my area is on the London list to close schools yet other areas with higher and much lower are also on the list. I wonder whether hospital capacity is also factored in???

Porcupineintherough · 30/12/2020 17:40

@Lairyfightzzzz I guess if your kids school is open they can go, and if its shit they (obv) don't, regardless of where you live.
