From this it seems the plan is to close schools in tier 4 areas but what about pupils and staff who live in other tiers and commute in?

@CanICelebrate

I’m so torn. I teach year 11 and my year 10 son has a couple of early GCSEs and they are all so anxious having missed so much school. I’m heartbroken about with disruption to their education. Equally, I think realistically schools have to close as the virus is out of control. It’s a nightmare here in the SE.

I am not so worried about my younger primary dc missing school as it’s easier to keep up at home but in my case they’ll still have to go in as key worker children anyway.

The uncertainty and worry is really stressing me out.

I teach in primary, but because my husband isn't a key worker, my own 3 children can't go in (even if I wanted them to). My Year 11 is not impressed with the whole thing.

@ineedaholidaynow

Unfortunately some classrooms have windows that don't open
After a whole term of this? Why has nothing been done about them if eg they were painted shut? Shock
juliainthedeepwater · 30/12/2020 17:13

Anyone wondering about nurseries (government still don’t deem them worthy of a mention it seems), I think I’ve found clarification that they’ll remain open even in tier 4 hotspots where primary schools will shut.

Sorry for posting a Sun link, beggars can’t be choosers: www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/13607741/nurseries-open-schools-tier-4-covid-closed-two-weeks/amp/

ivykaty44 · 30/12/2020 17:14

you can travel to your job if you can't do it at home has always been the case - that hasn't changed as far as aware

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:15

My London borough is at nearly 1000 cases per 100k and not on that list. Absolute disgrace.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 30/12/2020 17:15

That list is ridiculous. Where I live, half the kids go to school in a borough on that list, despite living in a borough that is not on the list. Does the virus know we are in a “safe” borough??

NotquitewhatImeant · 30/12/2020 17:16

Lairy - if you click on it I think all London boroughs are on it

ineedaholidaynow · 30/12/2020 17:16

@annevonkleve some classrooms don't even have windows, what do you expect schools to do about that?

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:17

I can't see Lewisham on that list, nor Greenwich.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 30/12/2020 17:17

Stay at home... but send your children to school Confused

Notnownotneverever · 30/12/2020 17:17

The part I don't understand is how are the key worker children who are on site going to be properly catered for educational. If the teachers are busy hosting online classes for the rest of the class then are these children going to end up getting a raw deal and stuck in a classroom with other teachers or admin staff doing their own work by themselves without any online teaching. I would be very concerned if I was the parent of a child who would be going in to school that they would be receiving a babysitting service only. They need to receive the same teaching, albeit online, as the rest of the students who are at home.

Maladicta · 30/12/2020 17:17

My Tier 4 county's just declared a major incident as the numbers are awful but we're still due to open on Monday Hmm

Lairyfightzzzz · 30/12/2020 17:17

That definitely isn't all London boroughs.

NotquitewhatImeant · 30/12/2020 17:17

Actually - not all! Sorry

missyB1 · 30/12/2020 17:17

Yes I’m Early Years staff and everyone assumes we can’t catch it - because little kids couldn’t possibly spread it could they???

I totally accept that I get coughed on and covered in snot etc it’s part and parcel of the job. And I want to still be at work. But what does make me cross is parents sending their kids in ill. The child arrives looking clearly unwell and the parent is all wide eyed innocence “oh no he’s totally fine” then we take his temperature and surprise surprise it’s high!
Then when you phone a parent and ask them to come and collect a poorly child, but they have a thousand excuses why they couldn’t possibly. Or “sure I will be there soon” and 3 hours later we are still waiting...

It’s never a good idea to send poorly kids to nursery but now is most definitely not the time to be doing it!!

itsbeenalonghardyear · 30/12/2020 17:18

@Armi

You fucking do it then, *@itsbeenalonghardyear*
I do risk my life I'm a nurse
VividImagination · 30/12/2020 17:19

I really do feel that parents should have the option to keep their children home without de-registering them or being fined. I don’t think it is in my sons best interests to never return to school but, with vulnerable family members, I would like to keep him home with the schools blessing until we are all vaccinated.

Char2015 · 30/12/2020 17:19

Is that list correct. My borough is on there but there are other boroughs with higher rates that are not included?

christinarossetti19 · 30/12/2020 17:20

Same here Lairyfightzzzz but different part of London to you.

Hackney, Islington, Haringey very notably not there.

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 17:21

Not even mentioned mask wearing.

No mask wearing.

kowari · 30/12/2020 17:21

@Abraxan

In some ways I am surprised any school would have children sitting exams a year early at the moment. Now really isn't the time for encouraging early entry - I would have been actively discouraging dd to do so unless it was a subject she'd have been able to get top grades without too much input being needed.
Ours is still wasting time on the RE short course for everyone not doing the full one, time that could be spent on English and maths.
musicalfrog · 30/12/2020 17:22

Has anyone found the list yet?

Meredithgrey1 · 30/12/2020 17:22

@Lairyfightzzzz

I can't see Lewisham on that list, nor Greenwich.
They’re probably unwilling to close more Greenwich schools after threatening them with court to keep them open.
